Luke, the trial version does have limitations but in this case since the trial version imports your source video without error and produces to a MP4 format of your liking, your issue is perhaps more related to the source video with PD vs the trial limitations. As such, my guess, the released version may suffer the same issue for your use.
You could maybe:
1) post your source video and pds project file on like google drive or the like along with exact specifications you'd like to produce your MP4 to and maybe a few users would try with PD18 for some feedback
2) take advantage of the 30 days and try the full version yourself, https://www.cyberlink.com/support/purchase-faq-content.do?id=16356

Great post, Jeff. Those suggestions would definitely give him an answer to the issue.

Hello,
We are currently trying to trial PD18 and unfortunately whenever we run a render in mp4 format with default or custom settings in comes out slow and the footage stutters. To rule out a machine issue we have tested this on 3 different machines with different hardware setup and still get the same problem. We can render as other formats and the footage comes out fine.
Just wondering if this is something that is a known issue? Or a problem with just the trial version maybe.
Any suggestions or questions would be helpful.
Thanks,
Luke
It has to be a bug in the trial version. MP4 renders perfectly in PD18 Ultimate.

i don't understand? what do you mean?
There are two ways for your project to be rendered. PD either uses your onboard CPU, or it uses a dedicated video card (GPU). A lot of laptops are configured to use the CPU for everything except gaming, and when you load a game, the GPU then gets activated. That's how my laptop works. Nvidia has a small icon that changes from black and white to color when the GPU is active. Some people are trying to force PD to use their GPU instead of the default CPU. My post was simply pointing out that many times you don't need to do that if your project is being rendered accurately and quickly. That's the case with my i7 CPU and I have no need to force PD to use the GPU.

I fully and wholeheartedly agree, TDK1044!
However, still a kind nudge to Cyberlink to look at the utilization of GPU's on laptops, as most of the other video software manufacturers seem to be able to do the trick.
Yep. Right there with you.

I would just add an 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' observation here. If, like me, you have a good Laptop with a good Nvidia GPU that PD doesn't access, ask yourself if that matters. In my case, PD 18 uses my i7 processor and it renders quickly and accurately. I see no need to try and get it to use the Nvidia 1060. So, my advice would be to only try and force the program to access the GPU if you are unhappy with how it currently renders projects.

Have you tried deleting the temp files?
C: \ Users \[user_name] \ AppData \ Roaming \ CyberLink \ PowerDirector \ 18.0 \Cache \ WaveForms folder and then delete all the temporary files.

Thanks. That's a pity, the widest setting doesn't show up enough detail on the audio.
If you grab the individual track and drag it, you can make it pretty large.....the size of 4 default tracks....but if you've done that and it still isn't big enough, then I don't have a solution for you.

I'm trying to align an audio track with the audio on a video track but I can't increase the height of the relevant tracks in order to see the waveform spikes so I can align them. Am I missing something?
John
The timeline workspace has three default track heights: small, medium, and large. You can set the desired track height by right clicking the mouse anywhere on the timeline and then selecting 'Adjust Audio Track Height' in the pop-up menu. You can also grab and hold any individual track to the left of the track number and manipulate it larger that way. To actually adjust the volume level, you would grab the keyframes (white dots) and manipulate those.

I'm new to PD so forgive me if I'm doing this wrong.
I'm building a template for some simple instructional videos.
I wish to add caption overlays to some scenes.
For reading clarity these captions are white text over a grey 60% panel appearing in the centre of the screen.
I can get them to appear as layers over the main video by adding them to the second channel, but they appear abruptly and I would like them to fade in and out.
If I use the built-in fade in/out effect when building the caption I have to lose the panel and the transitions take too long to fade in/out.
Is there any way to achieve what I want to do?
Build your title plus panel as a composite with no fades attached, then use the cross fade transition to dissolve to and from your composite.

Hi. to all PD users I have purchased every PD since 7 and have had a terrific run with only a few crashes.( Very little until I upgraded my PC.) PD 18 has created a problem with Fix and Enhance button when pushed to use stabilize or any other fix. It simply shuts down .Every thing else works fine. Geforce GTX 970.. CPU. intel i7 3930 K.. memory 16 g. Is anyone else having this problem?
I can't replicate this with PD18 Ultimate. I tried all the fix enhance options and they all work fine. Have you tried updating your Nvidia drivers?

It is the stand alone verison. I bought 2 clean installs and 2 upgrades for my team. I still have not heard anything from Cyberlink.
When you purchase the stand alone version, you should be taken to a page containing these downloads....(for the Ultimate version)

ContentPack_Essential_PowerDirector_PCP190327-01.exe

You should also receive an e-mail from Cyberlink containing your product key and confirming your purchase. When you download the files, the default location will be the 'Downloads' folder on your computer. You then instrall the main .exe program file first, and then the other files. All of this is for download and installation of PD18 on one computer. You've purchased two clean install stand alone products and two upgrades from an earlier version of PD. I have no experience will upgrades, as I always believe in clean installs. Maybe someone else here can guide you regarding that.

I purchased software, but it's not showing up in my account. I'm having trouble contacting Cyberlink to help with this issue. You do guys know what to do?
Hi, Mary, there's a lot of missing information here. What version of PD18 have you purchased? The stand alone version or the subscription version? Are you upgrading from a previous version or is this a clean install?

HI Ive just edited a new video and can hear the motor of the telescopic lens ( or whatever its called now) on the audio when I move the lens in and out. Is there any way I can mitigate or remove it from the audio?
Typically, in order to help reduce audio noise on a clip, you highlight the clip and click on the Fix/Enhance button. The relevant window opens. Select the ‘Audio Denoise’ option. Then select from the drop down list……Stationary Noise…..Wind Noise……Clicking Noise. Choose the degree of filter that you want……50 is the default…..and then click Apply. I'm not sure how effective this will be with your scenario. There is also noise reduction functionality within the Audio Editor. You might want to play with that.

I have been using PowerDirector for several years....
I prefer to 'own' the software I purchase, so doubt I will be upgrading.
I was already forced into the subscription game with Adobe, so have their video editing software at my disposal.... not sure why I would want '2' subscriptions of video editing software.
Anybody have experience with Adobe Premier Pro ? How does it compare to PowerDirector?
I've found over the years that owning a fully patched stand alone version of software like this is the way to go. A fully patched PD17 Ultimate remains on my computer and continues to work perfectly. I purchased PD18 Ultimate, added it to the same computer as a stand alone product and have had no issues so far. There are clearly a few bugs in it that will be addressed in an upcoming patch, but none of them have impacted me in any way at all. I guess the subscription model makes sense if you are going to be a heavy user of the product and you need the updates that are offered monthly with that model, but the rollout of PD18 365 seems to have been a disaster.
As for the Adobe product, I have no experience with that product.

I'm not aware of a version of Power Director that is compatible with the MAC OS.

Because zero often isn't quite zero with the keyframes, my suggestion would be to split your clip into two sections and then only apply the keyframed fx to the second section. Then you can perform a fade between the two. It's messy but it would work.
|
|
There are several ways to achieve this. You will find the Audio Mixer icon on the left-hand side just above the microphone icon. The fade in and out options can be set by positioning the TL marker at the point where you want your fade in or fade out to begin, then click the fade in or fade out triangle in the audio mixer. Your music will then start a fade in or out from that point in your project. You will see on the audio TL, that the keyframes (white dots) show that you’ve selected a fade in or out. Another option is to highlight your audio clip in the TL, left click on (Grab) a keyframe (white dots) and adjust it up or down.

So, my apologies if I'm late to the party and you guys already knew about this feature, but one thing I always missed editing in PD was an audio peak meter that's visible during editing to show that the volume of your tracks isn't clipping and causing distortion. Yes I know that the yellow peaks show that in the waveform, but I missed the conventional peak meter. Well what do you know...PD 18 has added what it calls a 'timeline preview volume meter'.....a peak meter which it places under the preview window. Awesome.

This is an issue for CL technical support. Please create a ticket there if you haven't already done so.

In my opinion, upgrading rather than performing a clean install of the new software is always a mistake. By upgrading, you save a small amount of money and risk a large amount of stress. I have clean versions of PD17 and PD18 Ultimate on my computer. Both work very well. PD17 is patched and very stable, and PD18 will get the usual 3 or 4 patches over the next six to nine months. Then if I choose to get PD19 Ultimate when it's released a year from now, I'll uninstall PD17 at that time but keep the patched PD18. By keeping the fully patched version of the previous software, I've yet to have any interuption to my editing when installing the new offering.

I downloaded a short audio clip into the media library. When i played it there the sound could be heard. When I then moved the clip to the audio track line in timeline mode no sound could be heard. I notice in the preview window the sound icon has a strike line through it suggesting its on mute. I cant find where and how to unmute it?
Cheers
Click on the icon in the preview window with the line throught it and you should see a volume slider where you can increase or decrease the volume, and it allows you to mute and unmute. Also, is the box next to the speaker icon checked for the audio track on your timeline? If it isn't, that would mute your audio.
