Ahhh, I never thought of that. I've been recording at 50fps but the timeline is set at 25fps. If I changed the timeline to 50fps, should that solve it?
Thanks for your reply.
Glenn
Your audio and video must be set at precisely the same fps, and the TL framerate must also be set at that rate.

Hi,
Please help, I'm starting to lose my mind!
I'm recording a lot of clips at the minute using a mirrorless camera and a microphone plugged into my computer through Audacity as it gives me better audio (the camera is a bit older and doesn't allow me to plug the mic in as an external to record directly)
When I'm syncing the two up in PD, it starts off fine, but as the video goes on, the audio slowly starts to lose sync and is way off by the end. I don't understand why? They've both recorded at the same time?
Also, I'm having a separate issue where, if I play the movie I'm editing within PD from the beginning, things are in sync. But if I try to play the movie from a random point, say, 30 seconds in, then the audio moves a few seconds ahead and is out of sync. I really don't want to have to keep watching the whole thing from the beginning EVERY time as I'm trying to align text and images to the voiceover.
Anybody else come across this or know what I can do to resolve it?
Thanks,
Glenn
What audio and video codecs are you using? Are they both recording at the same fps? You may need to use an audio converter to convert your audio to match your video codec.

I bought powerDirector to help my son with youtube videos. It never really took off. However, I started a new endeavor for my wife and I am Vlogging a lot for Youtube.
I am no expert at all. However, I did transitions, music overlays, clipping, etc.
PD16 seems like everythign I need. The music I found was on a free to use website. My system imports my GoPro videos and my DSLR videos.
Do I need to upgrade? What do I get by doing so? I don't need a lot other than Youtube Vlogging. I'm ok to upgrade to be compatible but any help would be great.
It doesn't sound like you need to upgrade. 365 is a subscription service. Do you really need that? It gives you all the bells and whistles, and you get any new updates automatically, but considering your needs, I'd stay with PD16. If there comes a time that you require additional functionality, then consider either PD18 as a newer stand alone product, or 365 if you decide that you want all the bells and whistles.

I own a decent laptop that I use for, work, games and video editing. PD18 doesn't use my GTX1060 card, but who cares? It performs very well editing and rendering projects with the i7 processor. I think that people get hung up on things like this because they can't see the forrest for the trees. My laptop handles all of my work, gaming and video editing needs really well. Nobody would look at a produced video of mine and say 'it would have been better if you'd done it using your Nvidia card.

If I buy the above power director 18 ultra when I edit a film the finished article can I save the finished film and give it to a friend of mine on there USB key , can they watch it from there key or do they have to be a member and purchased a plan thanks in advance
Once you 'Produce' the project, it will be saved at whatever file location you've designated. You can then copy it to a flash drive, upload it to the cloud or whatever. There's no restriction.

I have a slideshow on Track 2 and a series of color boards on Track1. The slideshow was created manually so I have full ability to change any of the images in the slideshow. The color boards on Track 1 are not continuous. That is, the track contains a series of different color boards separated by gaps. I want to add an image at the beginning of the slideshow (Track 2) which will slide all of the remaining images to the right. I want the color boards on Track 1 to remain synchronized with the original images on Track 2.
Let's say my new image on Track 2 is 5 seconds long. In a perfect world, I could somehow "grab" everything in Track 1 and just shift it to the right by 5 seconds and that would do it. Is there a way to do this?
Others may have a better suggestion, but I have done this by holding down the left mouse button on an empty part of the track, in your case track 1 on the timeline, and then move your cursor. You will see a box start to emerge. Extend the box until it surrounds your clips on track 1. All of the clips inside the box become one clip. You can then move all of those selected clips at the same time and move them back in sync.

Hello, I'm a new PowerDirector 18/365 user.
I have a project that contains several video clips (with audio) and wish to apply a fade in and out transition (both video and audio) between each clip.
I found a transition that will do that but it only affects the video portion of the clip. It leaves the audio untouched.
I don't want to overlap or crossfade. Just a simple fade out the end of clip 1, fade in clip 2, fade out clip 2, fade in clip 3, fade out clip 3, etc
Is there a transition that will perform both simultaneously? If so, where can I find it?
Thanks for your assistance.
EdK
The fastest way to do this would be to open the audio mixer, select the point on the TL for the start of your audio fade, and then click the 'fade in/fade out' triangle. Your fade in or out will start at that point. Just as easily, you could create a new keyframe on the TL to achieve the same end result.

For your description it seems to me you are opening your project in the option, File / Insert Project.
Use File / Open Project or Open Recent Projects ...
Also, you can go into settings and tell PD to open the project you were working on when you last exited the program.

To clarify and expand on this a bit, you have to select the two clips, either with a mouse cursor "lasso" or by clicking on one clip then holding down Ctrl and clicking on the second one, before the Sync by Audio button will appear above the timeline.
Once you've clicked on the button and the syncing is finshed, PD will move both clips to two new lower tracks on the timeline. This can seem unexpected, but it's to ensure that no other clips are disturbed when the clips are synced.
At that point you may want to trim the uneeded parts and then select both clips again and drag the back to the original tracks. As long as they're selected and moved as a group, they'll remain in sync.
That's why I do it the old fashioned way, by finding a unique audio point, sync to that and then mute the unwanted track.

Still getting familiar with the screen layout. It's quite different than Roxio.
Will look for it and give it a try,
Thanks! Ed
The 'sync by audio' button will only display once two waveforms are displaying.

Thanks for your quick reply.
I understand what you're sugesting.
Actually, the video and audio and one long file(s) so from that perspective, it's easy.
I was actually hoping there would be a way Power DIrector to analyze the audio captured by the camera and matching up the background audio track automatically.
If that is not possible, is there a way to display both of the audio waveforms so I can visually sync them up?
Thanks...Ed
Once you have both waveforms displaying, you should see a 'sync by audio' button display above the Timeline. Click on that button.

Hello,
I am brand new to Power Director. Actually evaluating the product (30 day free trial). After being a long time Roxio user, I have become very disappointed with Roxio with functions that no longer work, numerous bugs in the software and poor customer support and looking for a alternative video editing software.
I frequently video live theatre using my camcorder. At the same time, I capture audio from the theatres mixing board onto a flash drive.
As you all are probably aware, the quality of the audio captured by a consumer level camera is not the best. This is why I capture audio from the theatre mixing board.
My question is: If I add the audio captured from the mixing board to Power Directors background audio track, can Power Director analyze the audio from the video and sync the audio in the background track with the audio contained within the video track?
Eventually, what I want to do is mute the audio captured by the camera and use the audio from the background track for eventual burning to DVD and/or create a new video file for upload to Youtube, etc
Is it possible to do this in Power Director and if so, how?
I was able to do this in Roxio in earlier releases of Media Creator but their current release (NXT 6) has numerous bugs and the audio captured by the camera (and background track) becomes severly distorted during the editing process even before creating a new video file.
Thanks for your assistance.
Ed
The issue becomes how much editing are you going to do? Because you'll need to sync each section of your 'mixing board' audio. The principle is simple....you look for a moment in the video where there is something specific to sync audio to. An example would be the first note of a song, or a specific drum beat, or some other unique audio moment. You would sync your clean 'mixing board track' to that moment in your video and then mute the audio on the main video track. That wil give you audio sync until your first edit point, and then you'll have to repeat the process.

To those who have upgraded from 17 to 18
Is it worth it? Are there enough new features in PD18 to make the upgrade worthwhile?
Been using PD17 since it came out and very satisfied.
To answer your question accurately, the members here would need to know how you currently use PD17. For example, do you edit HD or 4K? I kept PD17 Ultimate on my system and then upgraded to PD18 Ultimate. Both continue to function perfectly. In general terms, the two are very similar, but PD18 offers a few more bells and whistles. Audio while scrubbing the timeline, audio meters that display during editing, and the ability to reverse the track order if you are used to editing on other software programs.

Hi,
I can't get a smooth playback even after I "render preview". This is too much. The video is just 1080p. My system isn't superb but is it enough right:
Operating System Windows v.10
Video Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 With Max-Q
i7
?
What's the problem?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I stumble on Premier Pro by chance... ;P It detected a system compatibility problem:
"
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 With Max-Q Desingn
Unsupported Video Driver
"
I tried to download a driver at: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
The closest "Product Series" I identify with is "GeForce GTX 16 Series (Notebooks)" but for "Product", mine is neither 1660Ti nor 1650. Mine is 1050 with Max-Q.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So... What do I do...? Thoughts?
When you optimize in the hardware acceleration screen in settings, does it select your GTX1050? My laptop has a GTX1060 that PD18 ignores, but it does a great job using my i7 CPU. It plays back in the timeline perfectly, and render speed is fast. My suggestion would be to force PD18 to use your i7.

Shift plus Delete = remove and leave gap. Ctrl plus Delete = remove and fill gap on an active track. Alt plus Delete = remove and fill gap on every track.

I use a Laptop for editing with PD18, and it handles the editing and the rendering very well. My spes are...
CPU: 2.2GHz Intel Core i7-8750H (hexa-core, 9MB cache, up to 4.1GHz) Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 630; Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB GDDR5) RAM: 16GB DDR4 (2,666MHz)

I would make a couple of statements here. The first is that if the software version that you have works fine for you, then don't update just for the sake of having the newest version. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Wait four or five months until some substantial patches are out there. I only ever purchase the stand alone version of software like this. I still have the fully patched and stable PD17 Ultimate on my system. I purchased PD 18 Ultimate knowing that the reviews were good, and that I had PD 17 sitting there if there were issues. By purchasing the latest 365 version of the PD software now, you're rolling the dice big time in my opinion. It really feels like a Beta product. Yes, CL are working on patches, but this rollout has been anything but successful. My advice for those wanting the latest 365 version, is to wait another couple of months so that additional patches are released. It will eventually be a great product, but it's not there yet.

Hi all,
I have a very short video - it should stop at 00.00.43.23 - there is nothing in any part of the timeline after this. However - it just keeps going with a black screen.
Any suggestions anyone, please?
Many thanks,
Mike
When you're ready to produce your video, have PD produce a selected range, and then give the software a start and end point of that selected range.

I was talking about GM 3 patch update v.2405. It took about 60 seconds to download, and the install was even faster. Are you guys talking about something different, or was it because I was downloading at 6am this morning?

Luke, the trial version does have limitations but in this case since the trial version imports your source video without error and produces to a MP4 format of your liking, your issue is perhaps more related to the source video with PD vs the trial limitations. As such, my guess, the released version may suffer the same issue for your use.
You could maybe:
1) post your source video and pds project file on like google drive or the like along with exact specifications you'd like to produce your MP4 to and maybe a few users would try with PD18 for some feedback
2) take advantage of the 30 days and try the full version yourself, https://www.cyberlink.com/support/purchase-faq-content.do?id=16356
Jeff
Great post, Jeff. Those suggestions would definitely give him an answer to the issue.
