Die Rechteinhaber vergeben eine Lizenz, lassen sich dafür gut bezahlen und erlauben oder verbieten was sie wollen. CyberLink hat sich daran zu halten oder die Lizenz wird zurückgezogen und rechtliche Schritte eingeleitet. Dann ist halt Schluss mit PowerDVD.
Freie Player wie VLC besitzen gar keine Lizenz und dürfen deshalb nur kopierschutzfreies Material wiedergeben. Bei DVDs befinden sie sich in der Grauzone, denn diese besitzen zwar einen Kopierschutz, welcher jedoch als veraltert gilt und bereits jahrelang offen umgangen wird. Verklagen ist hier wohl nicht so einfach oder billig.

If it is known material, you could usually hear it, e.g. if you own both the PAL DVD and the BD. The voices on the BD sound a bit deeper then.
Here are a few examples to try.
Essentially all movies ('the hobbit' being an exception, having 48p) are shot at 24p, so that's the intended speed. Stuff made in PAL countries for TV only (TV shows, concerts, sports) can be different.
Note that PAL DVDs can also be pitch corrected (very rare) or use other means of speedup like frame repetitons (e.g. for concerts, music videos). In the latter cases ReClock would do wrong, but for movies the PAL speeddown is essentially always correct.
ReClock can also do some other stuff:
It supports WASAPI (added natively for PDVD 14, though). And it can continuously correct the speed of the movie so to prevent dropped/repeated frames.
With DVDs it's always a compromise: Having repeated frames or wrong speed or wrong pitch or resampling or whatever. You can only choose what you find less disturbing.

Reinhard hat nichts dergleichen behauptet. Er sagt das 'PowerDVD.exe' (gemeint ist das Setup) läuft, wenn Du 'PowerDVD.exe' (gemeint ist das Setup) ausführst, was offensichtlich sein sollte.

I own the skynet edition of T2 and entering the above code to unlock the special extended edition works fine here (the director's cut doesn't need a code to play). I do have to use this virtual remote control thingy of PDVD14 though, the keyboard isn't accepted for that.

Not really weird.
If a player can play a file somehow then usually it falls back to whatever mode necessary to do so. I just wasn't sure if PDVD is clever enough to do so, too.
Anyhow you can play the file with VLC and it's *not* a PDVD bug, just a missing feature.

Hi!
Your file uses 10 bits. This isn't supported by current hardware but only with software decoding. That's why VLC can play it. Try turning off hardware acceleration in PDVD but I have no clue if it is supported at all.

I don't understand what you mean. If your display is 3k then it is just that and it can't display one pixel less or more.
(Movies can be up- or downscaled to fit your screen but that means just making it bigger or smaller without quality improvement.)
Also note that these sony 'mastered in 4k' blu-rays are normal 2k blu-rays and can be played with *every* blu-ray player. It just means that the used movie source was 4k and the blu-ray uses high bitrates by sparing any bonus material. It's mainly a marketing thing.

Was meinst Du mit 'besser'?
Die Dekodierung ergibt immer das gleiche Ergebnis, egal ob mit Software oder Hardware. Lediglich Geschwindigkeit, Stromverbrauch usw. unterscheiden sich. DVDs brachten jedoch bereits vor einem Jahrzehnt den Rechner nicht mehr ins Schwitzen.
Ob und welche Nachbearbeitungseffekte Du benutzen möchtest ist wohl Geschmackssache. Meistens verfügen ja die Grafikkarte, der Monitor und halt eben PowerDVD über so Sachen wie dynamischen Kontrast und anderes. Ob man da wirklich objektiv von 'besser' reden kann, weiß ich nicht. Nimm einfach, was Dir am besten gefällt.

Actually that's not a problem but the solution to a problem. PDVD just picks the best option for your hardware.
For optimal playback without irregulary repeated or dropped frames the number (Hz of the monitor)/(frames per second of the movie) should be as simple as possible, best thing is to be an integer.
Since most movies have 23.976fps and your monitor only supports 60Hz and 59Hz (which is a shorthand for 59.94Hz) the latter is better since 59.94/23.976 = 2.5 which is at least an half integer and the best what can be done with your setup.
Some movies actually have 24.000fps so then your monitor will use 60Hz.
So everything works fine on your PC as expected. If the display rate switching is bothering you answering the message you get with no will not do it. However you will have some random repeated or dropped frames now and then if you do so. Some people don't care or see it, others go crazy about it. Just try it out and decide for yourself.
The switching will *not* damage your hardware, it just switches between two supported modes.

The links on the cyberlink website are only trial versions and patches. You cannot download any full version here, not even for current pdvd13. But the support will give you a download link for the full installer iff you can prove you actually bought it.

Vor PDVD 13 gab es bei den Audio-Einstellungen eine Bassverwaltung, diese fehlt jetzt.
Ralf, hattest Du diese Option früher vielleicht aktiviert?

That's not fullscreen. You maximized the window. Just double-click the mouse while its pointer is in the PDVD window or left-click the four arrows symbol at the bottom right corner.

Hallo, gibt es für dieses Problem mittlerweile eine Lösung?
Ein Bekannter hat gerade PowerDVD 13 erworben und bekommt ebenfalls die obige Fehlermeldung:
"Aktivierung von PowerDVD fehlgeschlagen. Die Aktivierung erfolgt jetzt über das Internet. Bitte überprüfen Sie Ihre Internetverbindungen und versuchen Sie es erneut."
Allerdings verwendet er Windows 8 Pro x64, nicht XP. Ich habe ihm geraten von weiteren Aktivierungsversuchen abzusehen und sich an den Support zu wenden. Bis dieser sich dann irgendwann meldet, frage ich mal hier.
PS Michaels Vorschläge oben wurden erfolglos getestet.

Because no update was released. They're doing this for years now, continuously improving their software and giving new installers to recent buyers but releasing updates for all customers only now and then.
