Thank you all for your replies - will check out the specs as suggested.

GoPro bizz- I was led to understand from another thread I picked up that these dll files were related to Time Lapse photography within GoPro somehow. Anyhow, I'll keep 'em until I need 'em.

I am hoping that the non response I still get is down to RAM - seems to happen quite quickly, so I think a visit to my guru is required!!

I'm interested in the last response - my camera's video files are listed as MTS files within the properties tab. They are the highest resolution my HD cam can offer. Can I convert these to AVI files beforehand - and how do I go about doing that?

Thanks to all once again,

Peter
BINGO

Followed the steps and I think it's working - no error files after 5 or 6 mins of PD14 demo use, and they'd appear very soon after doing anything within the process previously.

Now there's a lot of hanging around, hard disc churning and so on, with a few pauses here and there - I'm guessing that's because of my lack of RAM.

Am I right in thinking that 8MB of ram is a must??

If so, it would explain the thinking time I'm experiencing (PC wise that is....)

Have to thank you for your advice so far - it's got things goiing again and I'm starting to have a little more faith!! I'm sorry to say the online helpdesk has been rather woefull - nowhere near the crux of my problem whereas you've hit the nail on the head so easily - thank you.

I've saved the dll files in a folder in case I need them for the Go Pro app. In which case, I can move them back to Sys32 folder before using it.

One last question while I think of it - do I need a 64bit version of Win 10 to run Cyberlink PD14 Ultra?? Seems to be working ok-ish at the moment with just the 4gig of Ram which I do think will need to be upgraded to 8mb.
Ok, will give this a go over the weekend - I've read the bizz from the link you provided, and as these posts were in 2015, it's more than possible they were also using Win10. Half the problem is finding the files in the first place!

Particularly as Win10 seems to update itself very very frequently. Last night, it did an age update, and this morning the Start queue looked unrecogniseable - just about every 'app' updated, and my network printer ended up printing garbage. Had to reinstall the printer!! Which had been working perfectly the day before.....

Whilst I like WIn10, I DON'T like these constant updates that sometimes update drivers with ones that simply don't work.
I'm sure that the Win 10 upgrade is at the heart of it - somehow, the dll files have gone awol, or thery are in a different place than Cyberlink is expecting.

Afraid I dont' know which files it's looking for.
Hi there Tomasc,

Many thanks for your reply.

Have done that already, and it advises upgrading to PD14. That in itself I wan't over suprised with.
However, having uninstalled PD10 and installed the PD14 demo software, initial results were good, except I get these dll error messages.

WIth PD10, I'd get the same errors right at the initiation, and then the programme just woudln't load.

With PD14, I appear to be able to work the software, but these error messages keep coming up. Eventually, it locks up - due either to the error messages or the fact that I've only 4gig of ram.

Would sure like to get rid of the error messages before I try anything else!

Thanks again
Greetings to all, and apologies if I'm digging up an old problem....

I've been using PD10 since it came out - brilliant most of the time.

Until I upgraded to Win10 - then it just wouldn't load. And I got the first of the 'no dll in waterfall procedure' error messages ever.

I thoguht that thsi was just a Win10 compatability issue with PD10 - the lack of start up certainly is, in my view.

However, I've downloaded the trial version of PD14 Ultra with a view to purcahse if it works as well as PD10.

Well, it loads jsut fine, but I'm still getting these infernal 'no dlls...' messages - four or five at a time at total random moments.

Now I've searched the problem and found solutions - but realised that all that I found were related to Win7. Searching for the file locations proved a bit fruitless, and I certainly can't find the suggested dll files that are mentioned either here or Win7 forums.

So I need a Win10 fix for this. I can offer the following to help:

1) Elsewhere, uninstalling GoPro Cine software was blammed for the missign dlls. I've never used it - I do have the current GoPro editing software but it's never been uninstalled and it's a different programme.

2) Problems seem to have occured first time after Win10 upgrade.

3) Can't think of anything that I've uninstalled that would rougley remove the dlls that Cyberlink PD 10 and 14 require.

4) I've only 4MB of ram - I realise that I will need 8mb, whcih I'm prepared to upgrade to if I can get this dll problem sorted first.

5) System is an AMD Phenom II chip at 3.2Ghz, have an LG Blu Ray RW, Radeon HD Graphics card, an older one for sure, but worked fine with PD10, Win10 OS

I had hoped that installing a working demo of PD14 would somehow replace the missign dlls required if they are so needed. Woudl installing the full product rectify the problem??

Does anyone know which dll files are missign and how and where to find/reinstall them?

Any help gratefully appreciated - I have a coupel of video projects to start and need either to upgrade to PD14 with the problem solved before purchase fi possibel.

Many thanks in advance,

Peter

PS, I have mailed the supprot team - first response was to place the blame fair and square on the PC without really telling me how to go about fixing it! Am awaiting a second reaponse, but wondered if anyone here had a Win 10 fix for this old problem!
Quite a few folk round here have found that unchecking the hardware acceleration box solves problems, and as far as I'm aware, it does relate to the graphics card.

Do check your DVD driver though. Just because it's fresh out the box doesn't always mean it's shipped with the latest.
If the DVD burner is brand new, chances are it burns quicker than the previous one. As James says, check yer burn speed. If as you say 'something's changed', seems reasonable to point the finger at the latest change to your system.

Check drivers for new burner are up to date too!
I did an upload to FaceBook using the built in direct to Facebook feature.

Works well
I've been scanning the manual to see if it mentions anything about cached files.

My original project was around an hour in total. Fairly serious gig sized HD video clips used, so was expecting hard disc to get fuller!

But having deleted the original files from my PC, I couldn't work out why my hard disc was still fuller than I expected.

I did have problems rendering my project, and in the end had to break it up into smaller sections.

I'm still wondering why I had nearly 1000gig of cached files.

And I can't see anything in the manual that acknowledges the presence of the cached files - please correct me if I'm wrong.

I found the cached files by accident, they've been on my PC for over two weeks since I deleted/backed up project one. Had I started project two, and suffered similar rendering issues, I would probably have run out of disc space and wouldn't have known why!!! Have gone from something like 730gig free, to 1.8TB free thanks to the removal of no-longer-needed cached files!!
Got it, thanks HalCon

Mistook the 'Export' for a literal Export to FB or YouTube......

Haven't used the Pack project materials option, but by the looks of things, would be a better way to back up a project after it's finished with.

After deleting the Cache Files, it feels like I've got a new HD again!!
Sorry Dafydd, can't work out the File/Export Folder etc bit - which OS are you using?

Figured out the hidden files bit ok.

Woh!!! 991GIG in the Cache folder!!!!

Wondered why my drive size had gone down so much!!! Hence my search in the other programme to detect the largest files on my system!!

Good job I've a 2TB hard drive!!

Hi there Dafydd, thanks for your reply....

In response:

1) Thanks for the Hidden File settings info - remembered it for Vista and you've saved me having to work it out in Win7!

2) Will delete these files I've mentioned - you said 'delete the Preview Cache folder' - so I can literally delete the whole folder rather than jus the files contained within?

3) For the record, no, I didn't use Shadow files. Two reasons - prefer to have decent playback in the preview window and secondly, I took the advice from others here on the forum not to use Shadow Files! All good advice and help. I'm assuming from what you're saying that any Shadow Files may be stored on my PC, but that won't be the case here.

4) I did export a small part of my project to Facebook. Uploaded and backed up on external hard drive, and will delete the original shortly. Only 150mb though. Are there any other hidden files to get rid of then??!!

Thanks again for your help :
Hi gang, little admin advice needed here :

I've finished with my first project, and have backed up essential produced files, and deleted the originals as it were from my C drive.

Using a third party programme, I've scanned my drive C to see the larger files still in existence, and I've found the following:

team1_000e3601

This is just one example of over 500 files that start with the 'team1' filename. I stopped counting after 500 files - in truth there are probably nearer 700 of them, maybe more.

They are ALL movie files, some ranging from a few bytes, others - and a great many at that - that are in excess of 2gig and some are in excess of 4 gig.

The file path is as follows:

C:\Users\peterc\Documents\Cyberlink\PowerDirector\10.0\Preview Cache Files

There are also loads and loads of files such as this one:

Auteam1_00c5a003

They are generally smaller audio files.

Both types are video and sound files from my first project already deleted. I didn't ask for the files to be cached when I imported the video in to the Cyberlink programme during the project stage. The sound files are small chunks of sound, broken up into small files, literally a few seconds in places and a minute or so with other files.

I cannot see the Preview Cache Files in the Cyberlink\10 folder anywhere - I have by chance stumbled on it using this third party software that found them on my system.

Questions!!

Why are they still there?
Why can't I see the Preview Cache folder from within the My Documents folder?

And crucially,

Is it OK to delete these cached files that are part of a project I deleted/backed up onto another drive??

I can't tell yet how big the cache folder is, but has to be a significant number of GIGS!!!!!

Hard to "inflame" a Troll..we are already so dang cranky!

Good post Fred, even for a dangly cranky Troll!! Found your post very interesting, especially the audio driver part, something I'm going to have to check up on tomorrow now you've mentioned it.

I've just downloaded the latest ATI catalyst driver pack - I'm assuming that if an audio driver is required for my GPU, then it will have been added then?

The issue with frozen screens and pauses is discussed as an issue with the newer (5xx) Nvidia cards.

With respect, I'm not sure that I can agree with that. I've read many complaints about this exact same problem from folk with ATI graphic cards.

I post this not to inflame - far from it. I'm a great fan of this software and am willing like many to strive to get things working the way I'd want it to be.

BUT...

The truth is that every time I revisit this forum, it has a fair few new threads that voice concern over frozen video. The problem as described in this thread has been experienced by many, myself included, and a great many of these complaints come from folk with setups more advanced than mine, and and with varying graphic cards.

I'm really wondering now if there should be some severe testing from Cyberlink to see if they can replicate the problems described here and offer a solution. Because it's the one thing that really destroys confidence in a product - to see your video frozen time after time.

As far as splitting the project up into smaller pieces, yes - that does work. But in an ideal situation, with longer projects, that gets tiresome and doesn't reflect well on the product.

Rant over - but seriously, I really think this needs looking at.
Are you producing your files first?

Only I had burn issues - not quite the same as yours - that were rectified once the 'produce' file(s) were rendered ok.

Might give it another try then.

Agree with matching bit rate bizz! Had exactly the same issue.

Quote: When trying to determine the best "rendering" option using "Intelligent SVRT" in the Produce tab in PD10 gives you a good clue.

Agree with that, even if you then decide not to use the Intelligent SVRT afterwards. I found I had mixed results with SVRT, but it did pick a rendering option in the way described here.

I would suggest that since you are upgrading drives, that you consider a bluray burner. You can get one at newegg for $79. They also do lightscribe for DVD-CD, as well as everything a regular dvd burner does. This way you will be able to burn to bluray disc, in the future. That the path most people are taking when upgrading dvd burners. The progress of technology.

Randy

Thanks for adding this KR - I'd add my recommendation to upgrade to a blu ray burner as well. Burns everything else as well, and if you're not thinking of burning to blu ray just yet, you may well do so later on! Blu Ray burners are available quite cheaply with Lightscribe built in for every other Lightscribe disc sort around.
