Since Cyberlink seems to come out with a new version of Power Director near the end of each year, there is a good chance that we'll see "Power Director 10" in a few months?
If so, what new features, fixes, or interface enhancements would make you upgrade to PD10 immediately, or within a few months of its release? Maybe Cyberlink Power Director development team members visit this forum and would appreciate the input.

I had no idea when I started this thread with the above question that everyone was so passionate about their desired PD10 features. Since my projects are simple, all I want is faster burning of DVD's with clearer output and "Burning Error" messages with a better explanation of the cause of the error. In short an improved DVD burning module.
Now that PD10 has arrived, I'll be monitoring that forum to see what feedback is posted regarding DVD rendering/burning. If it's improved, I'll upgrade to PD10.

One thing I've learned from reading over this forum after purchasing PowerDirector for the first time 18 months ago is this...
Many problems being reported are specific to a specific individual's computer setup. Related to hardware configuration, software, anti-virus, firewall, or other installed utilities, etc..
Although PD9 calculates the DVD fit perfectly for me, my system was generating numerous burning errors. After months of being MAD at Cyberlink, I realized eventually (after learning that virtually noone was getting this error but me) that it was my SYSTEM that was at fault. Once I switched from DVD-R to DVD+R, the burn errors vanished completely. I still don't know why this computer has problems with DVD-R PD9 burns, but while working through this problem, I came to realize that almost no two computers are the same. Even though my neighbor and I both have HP e9220y computers, his hardware config is slightly different and we use totally different spyware, anti-virus, utlity programs, security settings, etc.. The combinations are endless and video editing software is not only complicated, but uses a ton of system resources.

Perhaps the just-released 3305 Patch will resolve this problem. I'm reading some good things already about this patch in the forum.

The just-released updated version of AMD-ATI Catalyst Driver Suite (ver 11.7 dtd 07/27/2011) addresses quite a few issues related to video playback, etc., instead of focusing on Gamers like they usually do.

Personal Opinion Only...
On a related note, I wish Cyberlink wouldn't call their updates "Patches". If you look at this page, http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/index.do you see so many "patches" you get the impression that the products are of poor design and need constant fixing.
"Updates" or "Enhancements" sound more reassuring than "patches" don't cha think?

FYI.. This page http://store.fileforum.com/p18096-cyberlink_powerdirector_9_ultra64 indicates that the full "Content Pack" is indeed included with the purchase. But, they say it's build 2701. Perhaps just a typo?
Cyberlink is selling PD9 Ultra for $89.95 right now and FileForum.com for $79.95. File Forum also packages "Media Expresso" with the PD9 package. Not sure how useful this software is to video editors, but they say it's a $39.95 value.
Oh my...Here's a PD9-Ultra for $59.00. Says it's "Used". Can something composed of nothing but bits and bytes be "Used"?

Fred thanks a million for letting us know about this update! The Cyberlink Support page ( http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/support/cs/index.do ) still doesn't show any recent updates for PD9. I'll go get it right now.
Thanks again!

David,
AMD does have 64 bit graphic card drivers for Windows 7. See the link to them at this page:

For some reason, I started having Burn Errors using DVD-R with PD9. PD8 was fine with DVD-R. I switched to DVD+R on the advice of a forum member about 3 months ago and the PD9 burn errors did/have not occurred since. I'm so thankful for this forum and the smart, experienced members here!

Thanks for the "heads up". That's 2 ATI Catalyst package updates in 3 weeks. The hard part for me is understanding if I have the latest drivers installed after doing each update. The Catalyst Install Manager lists each component/driver and none of them are version 11.5.
The SDK Runtime is: version 2.4.595
The Display Driver is: version 8.850
The Vision Engine (whatever that is) is: 2011.0419.2218.38209
Plus another couple of components are installed: WMV9 Media Player and AMD Drag and Drop Transcoding.
I do the Catalyst Update(s) by following the instructions on the AMD/ATI website and the AMD Install Manager says that each one is successful, but none of the versions EVER match the advertised release version number. Reminds me of how some of government regulations are organized. No inherent logic.
Here's a question for those of you who update your Catalyst package regularly... Does the update of the display driver "scramble" your desktop? After each month's update, I have to re-drag each desktop icon back to where I like to keep them.
Sometimes I wonder if these multiple moving parts within the Catalyst package hinder PD9 from operating as it was designed to do, instead of helping it perform better. Has anyone seen PD9 performance changes (good or bad) as a result of keeping your ATI Catalyst package of programs up-to-date??

Hi AllenChicago,
Suggestion noted and is one I made some years ago.
Dafydd
Mr. Dafydd,
Since Cyberlink summarily dismisses your experience-based suggestions for supporting the people who pay Cyberlink management's salaries (we the buyers), you deserve an extra BIG Pat On The Back for sticking around and helping all of us. It's obvious from your years of posts in the Cyberlink forums that you're passionate about helping people...even when they're not very amicable. Thank-you sir!
In gratitude,

What gets my goat is how there is no technical support section which lists the Power Director error codes, what they mean and potential fixes. It took me 2 months to figure out that I had a spindle of Memorex DVD's where some were good and some were faulty. A section that described the Cyberlink Burning Error "EB020B9C" would have (potentially) speeded up the process of isolating the problem.
Cyberlink produces powerful software with appealing interfaces, but the technical support is waaay below what one would expect. But then again, a top-quality online tech support presence would probably double the price of Cyberlink products. I guess the target market is the consumer who wants products at the low-end of the cost spectrum.

I received the same e-mail one month after I paid for and installed the PD8 to PD9 upgrade. It's safe to ignore the e-mail. Just a systems glitch. Happy editing and creating Anja!

In my opinion, the AVI and WMV files at the end are inconsequential because you're running into the brick-wall at 36% of rendering, which is long before the WMV/AVI content it encountered.
Hopefully, some members with extensive PD9 experience will chime-in to help you. This forum has been invaluable for yours truly. Good luck BlazyTracy. I'm sure you'll come out OK.

Blazy, have you been able to produce any project past that 36% barrier in the past, or have you tried producing a different, basic project, just to see if you can get past 36%? Did a forum search turn up anyone else with a similar problem in any of the Power Director versions? -AC

I'm thinking that because your GPU isn't on the list of "Supported" ATI Graphics cards, Power Director doesn't access your Radeon 5870.
List of PD9 Hardware/Software Requirements is at this page:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector/requirements_en_US.html
Some people in the forum say that PD9 utilizes their GPU during transcoding, even though their graphics card isn't on the "supported" list. My Radeon 4350HD is not on the list. If I check the box for Hardware Encoding in the overall program preferences section, my vids are produced with lots of lines and other artifacts, so I leave it un-checked.
How are your productions turning out, Jabit? Good quality? The ATI 5870 is a really nice graphics card!

Thank-you McLean1 for the link! I was going to suggest that it be posted as a "sticky" near top the forum, but I took a look just now and found that forum moderator D. Bevan had already put the link in the "READ ME" post right at the top.
I see that there's now a TUTORIAL guide, as of 3/16/2011. Outstanding. Thanks to CURT for asking for the user-guide, because I don't receall anyone mentioning that there was now a written Tutorial available.

Did you disable your Anti-Virus and Spyware programs and try to install? We had a problem at work where the Trend Micro Anti-virus wouldn't let us install a program. The symptoms were exactly what you're describing for your PD9 installation attempt.

I thought the problem was solved after burning a few DVD's without any errors. So I began incrementally re-installing the patches/updates and burning until reaching the current PD9 version (2702). Everything worked fine. I had burned approximately 14 DVD's and was ELATED that PD9 was humming along error free.
Suddenly, last Friday, that dreadful "EB020B9C \r\n" burning error occured, just as it had done before...just before the actual burn process initiated.
I had turned about 20 of the 50-pack of DVD-R's into useless coasters and this most recent error was on my last DVD.
I read somewhere in one of the older Cyberlink PD forums that PowerDirector doesn't like the DVD-R format. Well, this didn't make sense to me because I've been burning DVD-R for 2 years problem free until this recent rash of burn errors. This poster emphatically states that DVD+R is what Power Director likes the most and that it's the only one he uses.
So, I purchased a 50-pack of DVD+R's. I held my breath the first few times of burning, waiting for that dreadful burn error to occur this weekend. BUT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN.
Now, here's the question for you critical thinkers. Did I get the burn-error because some of the DVD-R's in the package were possibly BAD...or is it true that the DVD+R format is a better medium for PD9 than DVD-R?
I was able to burn small test projects onto the very DVD-R disc that wouldn't burn the 3gig to 4gig projects. This leads me to think that perhaps PD9 really does like DVD+R the best. Or, perhaps the computer/burner looks at the size of a project and then scans the inserted DVD to ensure that it's error free over the surface space that's required for burning?
Anyone care to chime in on this? If not, I understand. It's an old thread.
Cheers,
-Allen in Chicago
