Quote PD 15 is not useless but it may be your computer that has the problem

and Carl 312 was pointing you in the right direction so listen to the advice??

one harddrive just won't cut it with video editing and your 16GB memory is borderline

get an othe ssd drive at least 500Gig for the scratch disk and update your memory

nothing wrong with the speed of PD so sort out your computer its not as fast as you think

its to slow for PD 15 and your harddrive is causing a bottleneck trying to read and write back and forth on the same drive as your

operating system JUST WON'T WORK thats the main problem.

I would also suggest you look at some up to date tutorials on how to setup a video edit system

have a nice day Tom G

I hope you are not offended when I say that I get the impression that you try to justify having spent so much money on the latest hardware. If the question was, whether jeremy's rig is adequate for editing the given source material (720p), I would say "Yes, by a large margin". An expensive large SSD or more RAM is not going to make the user interface more responsive under that workload, simply because that material has been edited swiftly with shadow files (aka proxies) on far weaker systems back in the days. Other consumer oriented video editing software (there are two or three comparable to PD) could also be tested with a similar workload to see if editing must be that slow or if they use an obvious trick to be faster.

The only hardware items that should have an effect on editing speed are the CPU frequency & generation and RAM speed. (GPU effects aside.) The CPU frequency is awesome and the RAM - I presume - is fast, too. Any hardware bottlenecks are ruled out in my opinion. That leaves us with the software side. Do you have any codec packs installed? I could imagine in theory, that if an external codec was used, that is slow to use for still frame extrction the way it happens when editing in PD, it could slow down the whole application. Are the shadow files ready and the preview quality set to "normal" or lower, so they get used? Did you try disabling the "continuous thumbnails for easy scene recognition"? You'll only see the first video frame for each clip, but it is faster. The same goes for "audio waveforms". Most importantly though: How big is your project? In PD 12 I once had a 4 hour long 1920x1080@50p project with lots of clips and well over a thousand animated still images, that would become slow to edit on the now six year old office notebook I was using back then. Also the occasional longer pauses in the interface were caused by the autosave feature, which would work for a minute or so without a visual feedback.

Don't worry about the free disk space on that SSD unless PD stops writing shadow files. (It tries to keep a certain percentage of disk space free). Performance-wise, a good small M.2 SSD beats an SATA SSD hands down by a factor of 3 to 5, because SATA is limited to ~650 MB/s. More RAM will not give you as much of an advantage since your SSD is already "only" about 10x slower than RAM, while with a mechanical HDD the factor is 1000x and more. Figure this: In the time PD hangs - let's assume 1 second - your SSD can sequentially read more than half an hour of 720p material (assuming an overall bitrate of 10,5 Mbit/s and a Samsung SSD 950 Pro M.2).

I can not be bothered getting into a slanging match with you or anyone else But I have been editing video for som 25yrs

and I know what I'm talking about

as I said the harddrive is causing a bottle neck one harddrive on an edit system is just asking for trouble

now go watch some tutorials and come back when you learn something

I answered the post to try and help I'm not wanting a slanging match with someone whom thinks one harddrive is sufficent

simply you don't have a clue with statements like that

end of story

have a nice day

Quote Is there a fix for this, PD15 is useless, cant't work on it, to slow.
How can I go back to 14?

I think I will give this version PD15 a miss,

and a big thumbs down,

anything CL have called new in 15 could have been added as an update to PD14 ( MY OPINION )

they are just after our monies as usual,

but re doing little to make any PD user enthuastic to get PD15 a total dissapointment

roll on PD 16 looks like an other year to wait now???

How do other users feel about this 15 version

Tom G
are there many into this 360 video editing yes/no

my own opinion is that PD could have offered better features than this yes/no

for anyone whom takes video editing serious is 360 video relay what they want ?

but I may be wrong.

not much of an upgrade for the monies,

and it leaves PD 14 with a few bugs still to fix

what do others think,

Some say PD15 is more stabile will Cyberlink still bring out a patch for PD14 ?

Buy the best Graphics card u can afford
and the same goes for the processor.

as far as ram goes 32gb is better than 16gb

64gb is better than 32gb

the more ram the better I just got a 17.3" laptop
with the intel 6820hk processor 980mm graphics card
64gb ram

500gb ssd and 1000gb ssd and room for two M.2 ssd chips

and it is a great machine custom built from a well knowing
laptop builder they also do desktop custom builds

I don't think I'm allowed to post there name here
it would be classed as advertising
but send me an email if you want

Hi RobCom

yes the deal is ok best with the ultra bundle,/ultimate

I myself am going to wait until version 14 comes out,

which I don't think will be long now, and I expect that to work better with win10,

that's why all these offers are going out at a vastly reduced price, as you know all companies do this

This is my opinion anyway,

I would hope to see the new PD14 out by next month of following Sept/Oct

cheers anyway have a nice day

All I could find on net regarding next release see below

based on the released date cycles before and predict that Cyberlink will release the next new PowerDirector 14 version(Ultimate Suite, Ultimate, Ultra and Deluxe) in September 2015.

Here, looks back on some of the previous version release:

PowerDirector 13 – Release on September 17th, 2014.
PowerDirector 12 – Release on September 6th, 2013.
PowerDirector 11 – Release on September 19th, 2012.
PowerDirector 10 – Release on October 11th, 2011.
PowerDirector 9 – Release on November 18th, 2010.
PowerDirector 8 – Release on August 3rd, 2009.
PowerDirector 7 – Release on May 7th, 2008.
PowerDirector 6 – Release on May 14th, 2007.

I'm waiting for v14 and hope it works better with win 10, 64bit

But out of all the companies Cyberlink is one of the best at bringing out patches/ fixes etc:

so I reckon about 4 to 6wks

have a nice day

Hi all see here convert h265

Hi, created by Inkman
a small application to convert NX1 4K H.265 video file to full resolution or 1080P with H.264 or Prores 422 codec.
I made this mainly for editing the video with 1080P resolution. NX1 4K video file cannot be used in my FREE MS Window Maker. Also, after the conversion by using with Samsung Movie Converter, it still very heavy and it took long time to convert.

This software is much faster if you are willing to spend more disk space.
It can resize 4K source to 1080P at the same time, if the resolution is what you like.
It can encode to H.264, Prores 422 Proxy, LT, SQ and HQ.
I
t is very simple to use and IT IS TOTALLY FREE! I implemented this for the NX user! YAY!!
You can download it from my blog below. It has little more explanation about the software.
I hope you enjoy this!! If you have any question, please let me know.
You can download it from

http://www.mydiyworld.net/?p=1805

Changes for this version...
⦁ separated distro. installers for win32 and win64.
⦁ supports MP4, MOV and WMV files as a source file.
⦁ added H.265 (HEVC) in encoding codec option.
⦁ changed output file name format.
One thing you need to note is that I couldn't test H.265 encoding thoroughly since my computer is not powerful enough to play H.265 file smooth. I know H.265 is playable and I can see the video, but I cannot guarantee video and audio in sync. So, when you encode your video in H.265, please make sure the result looks OK.
I hope you enjoy this software.
Ah, did I mention it is FREE? Yes!!!

created by Inkim see here

Please don't listen to people whom make silly statements that H265 is dammed, or domed,
they don't have the Samsung NX1 AND don't even use the H265 files I DO USE THEM AND DO CONVERT THEM no problem

Also download Potplayer it plays the h265 files no problem see below

http://download.cnet.com/Daum-PotPlayer/3000-13632_4-75587055.html

also the VLC player or power dvd, tend to stutter while trying to play but its up to you
i Find Potplayer superior to them all

I hope this may help some users of the H265 files,

please don't make comments that you cannot back up, with video file samples that you have tested
Thank You
Tom G
Download Pot-player and it plays them fine and its free

see here

http://download.cnet.com/Daum-PotPlayer/3000-13632_4-75587055.html

Cheers Tom G
See here Cinemartin

http://www.cinemartin.com/cinec/hevc-h265/

also see www.mainconcept.com they do a converter

I suppose its like everything else if you want the best encoder you have to pay

Cinemartin can be downloaded as a trial, if your interested it comes as a plugin for Prem Pro, don't no if there's a standalone version

I plan to purchase the Samsung NX1 but I'm waiting till after xmas as the price will come down and it will have a better firmware by then I hope ,
anyway no use buying till they do some serious testing and the h265 codec is supported in the meantime I use my Pentax K3

until it sells on ebay

Please keep us posted if you manage to get a converter for the H265 I do know the one that Samsung supplies with the camera is crap
and it also needs some work,

but Cyberlink are pretty good at sorting these bugs and I hope they will bring patch out soon.

Cheers Tom G
Well hello al

I am sure true 4k is 4096 x 2160 what we get is U.H.D NOT TRUE 4K from what I have read on the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tom G
Hi all,
Just want to know if anyone has done any 4k video yet using the H-265-Codec, and if PD13 will handle it from what i have read one need a very powerful computer, and I mean top of the range with a 900 series graphic card

can anyone enlighten me on this subject,

I have had to put my new Samsung NX1 Camera on the back burner until they get this codec sorted,
here is part of the review i read

( The extra required horsepower is a big issue because while every modern graphics card supports H.264 natively, hardware HEVC support isn't widespread. This requires software-based encoding and decoding, which is far slower. For example, even brand-new Maxwell 2 GeForce 900-series cards from Nvidia will only offer a mix of hardware and software support for HEVC. Worse still, in practice we couldn't edit the footage in either Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premier Pro. Forget editing—even playing back the footage on a PC was a pain in the neck.

The only ways we could view what we shot were directly from the camera (which was plagued by artifacting and choppiness) or using Divx 10—VLC, Quicktime, and other common players couldn't play the footage smoothly at all. And even with Divx the only computer we found that could run it was the Razer Blade Pro, a $2,500 high-end gaming laptop. Even our i7-based Macbook Pros struggled. HEVC footage is the future of 4K streaming, but with hardware support at least 18 months away we recommend using a 4K-ready external recorder or converting the footage to H.264 before trying to work with it.)

full review here if interested:

http://cameras.reviewed.com/content/samsung-nx1-digital-camera-review

thanks for looking I hope PD brings out a patch that improves the H265 CODEC
