Hi Tom -

A little while back, we spent quite a bit of discussion time on this question - http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/40564.page

That thread should shed a little light for you.

Cheers - Tony

This may be worth a read, Tom

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/samsung-nx1/samsung-nx1A.HTM

I can tell you that RAW files from the NX1 (a) aren't recognised by PDR13 & (b) completely crash PhD6 just by being in the library

Hi ynotfish
have you tried the files I find it strange because the camera is not out yet as Samsung are working on a new Firmware,
and no testers/reviewers have had the camera yet,

so can you tell me whom tested the files, you did say the raw files I'm talking about the movie files,
the camera does true 4k which is 4096 x 2160 it also does uhd 4k which is 3840 x 2160 these are the type of files the 4k televisions are using not full 4k,

I expect Adobe lightroom will update so it can convert the raw files nearer the time

I was looking at Cyberlink and it does say it will handle h265 4k movie files and I also no there will be a plugin for Adobe Premiere Pro
from a company called Cinemartin which is available soon
I know the raw files will be accessible within L.R when the camera comes out.

do you have any links to were the 4k movie files were being tested
sorry the post a bit long

cheers Tom G Thomas G

I preordered the NX1 and received a message today, that they have to update the firmware, before the first NX1's will be delivered...

...so, it is really interesting to see when the NX1 will be supported by PDR13 & PhD6.

-

I don't think that there will be the issues you describe, if the camera is really out...

...but we will see in a few weeks, after the first people could take RAW files with a production unit with final firmware.

Let's see!

let us know how you get on once you get the camera Please

I have to sell my Pentax K3 first and I want to see the first few reviews before I fully commit myself,
but I'm 99.9% certain it will be a great camera.
I hope Cyberlink PD13 will support the files

Hello Tomthumb777,

I will give some answers here:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3746362

...and hope that the camera will live up to the high expectations:

Once I get familiar with the NX1 in conjunction with PD13 and PhD6, I'll let you know.
Let's see!

Tom -

I've hunted high & low but cannot find any video sample clip straight off the NX1, let alone a 4K one - without luck. I'm not even sure there is one.

There was one (apparently) displayed at Photokonica http://www.eoshd.com/2014/09/photokina-report-day-1-samsung-nx1-4k-mirrorless-camera-h-265/ - interesting read/hype

That video is on YT - http://youtu.be/q_LzX6S0Pac - but it's been processed, of course.

Agreed - I don't expect there'd be issues with playback of the H.265 clips in PDR13. I only mentioned about the PAW photos because I though it may have been of interest to a potential NX1 user.

Cheers - Tony

For me VLC player (the very latest) displayed a H265 mp4 and had a lower third with an green screen semi opaque. I'm sure if you have (if I had) PowerDVD 14 installed, playback wouldn't be a problem.

If you're sharing H265 codec rendered video, it isn't your computer you should be concerned about, it is the person's computer/player you have to be sure can view the video!

Experienced editors who started editing video and such many years ago would be very aware of the issues associated with changing compression codecs and sharing video.

Thank you all for the answers,

I suppose the 4k footage would have to be converted to mp4 or something so others could watch this on there systems!!!

I will just have to experiment when the time comes

Hello Tom,

meanwhile, I have uploaded a 4k test file from the NX1.

The interesting point of it is, that it is first in focus and shows the very fast reaction of the camera to focus on the insect, which is flying through the focus point, which was set on the tree.

It is only a 3,22 second long HEVC file at 3840x2160 @ 83 Mbps and 29,97 fps, with a size of around 33 MB.

The light conditions (checked with a single shot OOC JPG picture) were ISO 400, F6.3, 1/40s:

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3746362?page=7

https://www.wetransfer.com/downloads/641f563f7573c97281f28c3657a471d120141115152219/1280f552e00a1364a91139500e7286b020141115152219/f73b41

It can be played with the latest VLC media player (however this player seems to have problems with longer videos) and
with PowerDirector 13...

I hope this helps... Let's see!

For you 4K guys. I was watching a youtube guy talking to a LG rep. He said LG TV's has had the h.265 encoder and decoder build in to their TV's from Oct. 2013.

Link to the video. -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3RV7upJ7OI Intel i7 5960X overclock to 4 Ghz 16 GB of ram.

Thanks for the upload NX1_4k_H.265

Your sample clip plays fine here (with audio) in VLC, WMP, GOM, MPC-HC & POT Players - and PDR13

Here's a funny thing (not ha ha) -

The H.265 file from the NX1 plays perfectly on a Sony Bravia 4K TV but it will not play a produced file out of PDR 13 (H.265 MPEG-4 3840x2160 @ 38MBps)

I'll have to dig into that - not that that little inconsistency is going to bother many other thread participants.

Cheers - Tony

P.S. It's not really a 4K TV, even though that's what it said on the box & in all the website blurbs! They seem to use UHD & 4K to mean the same thing. Sony refers to it as 4K Ultra HD. It's 3840 x 2160 anyway.

Actually the true '4k' is UHDTV 3840x2160, as standardized by ITU:
http://www.itu.int/rec/R-REC-BT.2020-1-201406-I/en
The term of 4K is meant to promote sales, because it's easy to remember by lowly buyers.
Also, see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-high-definition_television#Resolution

Anyway, wonder who plans to sit at 4' away from a 70" TV to fully benefit from the measly 2160p...

I have some bad news SoNic67 (apart from the fact that we're now off-topic) -

It's not a perfect world. None of us has a perfect viewing environment. None of us has a perfect listening environment. None of has the perfect editing environment & we're clearly working with a less than perfect NLE. We come to a forum that's a less-than-perfect discussion environment where people make spurious statements without evidence - or keep repeating the same thing ad nauseam - or operate outside the forum management rules... blah blah blah.

Everything's a compromise. We do what we can to get ourselves behind the camera we think we need - sitting at a PC we think suits our needs - using an NLE we think will do the job - and viewing our work on a screen that maximises quality... but it's all a compromise.

I'm sure that graph is accurate in every respect, just like all the other technical analyses that cannot consider all the environmental variables.

No - I'm not going to sit 1.2m from the TV so I can satisfy the graph you've posted. Nor am I going to rip out the curtains and soft furnishings to fill my room with the cleanest possible sound from my audio system. BUT - I am going to enjoy viewing and listening in this less-than-perfect environment.

I can let you know that 28MP photos look far better displayed on the 4K UHD TV than they do on 1080s. Even my eyes can see the difference!

Each to his/her own, I guess.

Cheers - Tony

... because my typing is less-than-perfect...
