Hey Dafydd, thanks! How are things? Thank you for jumping in...

My question was NOT about the difference of transitions really but the FREEZE... I will repeat...

QTE
Everytime I SWITCHed between them, my PC hung for like 8-10mins before transition switch took place. WTHell?
Unqte

p.s. The same freeze took place if I wanted to adjust the length of a transition....
Couldn't figure out PD9 problems on my own, had no help from the Forum either.

Had to uninstal it all together and get back to my PD8.

What a great idea, works so nice and smooth. Doesn't hang or freeze. Will wait until ALL of pd9 bugs are solved and new built is out before will consider the purchase....

p.p.s. Did u realise that you cannot drag the left side of a clip in the time line with the Overlap transition?
Grrrrrr....
Hello guys, long time no see.

I thought I perfected my PD8 hence went quiet. When I saw PD9 out I gave it a try, a trial version, as of today.

I was quite impressed at first glance until I tried to bring a transition between two clips (as per regualr practice). There was a little bit of confusion between CROSS and FADE types but I had not even had a chance to test each one out to compare. Everytime I SWITCHed between them, my PC hung for like 8-10mins before transition switch took place. WTHell? If I do not get an answer pretty soon, I will BOO the Ver.9 and go back to my trusty ver.8.

p.s. I hoped that the 9 will speed up my Vista 64-bit. Well, while it is not crashing, it is surely hanging up (freezes) quite often..... Any tricks in the "Preferences"?
Hello guys,

I read posts before about people complaining about their production getting stuck at some point. I never commented because it had never happened to me b4. Well, not until tonight. I got stuck at 20% during production of m2ts file. I cancelled production, restarted the workstation and .... 20% later same deal, production would not move any further.

I referenced the time line and calculated where exactly 20% would be. Somehow it coinsided right away with my only special effect used in the power tools = "clip speed" that I crancked up to X10. Do not get me wrong, I tried this effect before with 'flying colors" but this time it would fail production somehow. I turned off the effect and restarted the production of the movie... What do u know, it solved the problem.

I personally get very peeved at software bugs. I suspect this was the case... This case is over to the QA people.

p.s. There is always a solution - never give UP!
I did too move my projects around on my PC once and when trying to open one, DOH!, got a message "project source files not found".

The following Dafydd's solution worked for me.

When you open your pds file in PD you get asked to browse for the location - do so and find your files.
That "funny" part is computer freezing, correct? Yes, you are not alone. We all experienced the same. If you let it be, PC will eventually unfreeze, in about 3min I think. There is a post about it somewhere on here.

JL's proposal is spot-on and will resolve the issue.
I bet John wants to be able to control the animation duration in the DVD Menu.
Dafydd,

It will be appreciated if you forwarded my note to them.
I remember the time when my old PD5.0 had one annoying glitch: every time you save your project while in a "movie" mode the scrubber will jump to the front, so I had to remember to always switch to the “clip” mode whenever saving.
This was eventually addressed and resolved in the following versions of PD. Glad they did it. Thanks.

Now, there is another same problem when trying to add a music track from the smart sound. Whenever you stop a soundtrack from playing in the library preview window, the scrubber in the time line jumps all the way to the front. R+D please address this in your next patch.
My laptop processor is too weak even to produce SD videos let alone HD.
I reconfirmed that. Visited the link, Donwload BD Advisor and tested my laptop: http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/bd-support/enu/index.jsp

I do all my editting on a workstation.

Check the minimum system requirements for the PD8.0

Guys,

Finally took a shot at having my FIRST project without a single transition (my favorite is "No Effect").

On the plus side, no out-of-sync AUDIO, which is awesome. Must be indeed some kind of a glitch in the software that messes up the synchronization whenever applying transitions.

On the negative side, it took me 4hrs to complete a 9min clip, as I had to manipulate the ends of each clip and fade in and out audio, something that "No Effect" transition will take care of with a click of a button.

I manipulated clips by dragging the ends "in" with a mouse or by positioning the scrubber and using option "SPLIT" the video and deleting the unwanted part. Using the option "TRIM" was unbearable as I had no patience to wait until the new clip got initialized. I do not know how you guys do it. Please share the tips.

Spartan,

Bulls eye! That is the exact effect I get as well. I am not alone.

I better shorten my posts to under 18lines or type long posts in another editor and only then paste them in the window.
mtrapp,

Using PD current method the audio for the second clip is now no longer in sync with the video.

Are you positive about this assumption? If YES, I will have to go back to my most recent project, delete ALL transitions and see if that finally solves the so-much-bothering problem of having out of sync audio.
Heheheh , could be but I would love to hear from others in case they might expereince the same.
At last!

EDITED - I've taken the quote bit out as it distorted the page display.

OK, try the above. Hold down "1" key until it filled four lines. Hit return and type "1" on each line continuously. On the 18th line your "RETURN" command will be accepted as "SPACE"? This is where the fun starts. Change to another key "2" and continue. Type like 5-6 lines. Do you see the window jerking erratically? Every time you reach 18th line something happens to the window viewing area.

OK, now try this, at this point try scrolling up using the keyboard, not the mouse, all the way to the top, and then all the way to the bottom. Does the window start acting past the 18th line? Can you reach the bottom? I do not think so. At some point, while continue hitting "down", the window starts moving "UP?".
Try to scroll down using the mouse and to add text at the end. Can u see what you type? Crazy.

the up/down slide controls become visible

That is true, you do get the controls and can scroll up/down once you exceed the viewing area with your text, however, once you resume typing, the text in the window jumps to the top and whatever you type goes beyond your view. You can scroll down and see what you've just typed, but no sooner you resume, the text jumps back to the top. Is it just me? Try it.

I don't use the "no effect" transition. I find it pointless. I think also you want the "jump" from one action to another and I didn't see any difference with or without that particular transition other than taking up a part of two clips.

Tripod with remote control recorder would be a perfect scenario for us all. I would bet that 99% of amateur videographers shoot from a hand and use their finger. That one second jerk in two joining clips will be easily hidden by a "No Effect" transition and without further work, will it not?

This is what I thought, if you make a habit of waiting two seconds at the beginning of each recorded clip and two seconds after you finished recording a scene, THEN, at the time of editing: you throw all your clips onto a timeline and add a 4 sec "No Effect" transition to every clip = your project will be basically done; the transition will take up all those wasted/unwanted "waiting" seconds. Alternatively, one will have to trim EACH and EVERY clip, which would not be very efficient, will it?

Dafydd, Another point, say, in your perfect example, when you do not need to trim anything, don’t you still need to do something with your audio, i.e. fading it out and in?
Is this just me but whenever typing a post and reaching the end of the working window, your text doesn't start scrolling up revealing new typing area but rather remains still and your typing goes beyond the visibility....
