Hello, I curently use a desktop for my video editing with PD8.

I am buying a new computer soon. My question is can a new laptop with windows 7 and an I7 processor handle HD editing as well as a desktop. My sony HDRx500v records in full 1920 HD. My movies are generally 1-2 hours long.

My main concern is if my video quality and speed of editing. Will my videos look better on a desktop? Are there any drawbacks to a laptop, besides future upgradability? Thanks

I have a Toshiba X500 with i7 720 processor, and it works very well. All my video footage is 1920x1080, and it edits/plays it seamlessly.

My laptop processor is too weak even to produce SD videos let alone HD.
I reconfirmed that. Visited the link, Donwload BD Advisor and tested my laptop: http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/bd-support/enu/index.jsp

I do all my editting on a workstation.

Check the minimum system requirements for the PD8.0

Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

I have an i7 (1.73 turbo to 3.0 laptop. It works great. I "overbought" to get it right.
My only "issue" is my preview can be a tiny bit choppy if...
I use HiDef, AND apply lighting AND anti-shake AND a third fix of some type AND have a motion PIP floating about.
Not too bad. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)
Nvidia GTX 960(4GB)/16GB DDR3/
Canon Vixia HV30/HF-M40/HF-M41/HF-G20/Olympus E-PL5.
Tape capture using 6 VCR, TBC-1000, Elite BVP4+, Sony D8 camcorder with TBC.
