pd9 - TRANSITION PROBLEM
[Post New]
Hello guys, long time no see.

I thought I perfected my PD8 hence went quiet. When I saw PD9 out I gave it a try, a trial version, as of today.

I was quite impressed at first glance until I tried to bring a transition between two clips (as per regualr practice). There was a little bit of confusion between CROSS and FADE types but I had not even had a chance to test each one out to compare. Everytime I SWITCHed between them, my PC hung for like 8-10mins before transition switch took place. WTHell? If I do not get an answer pretty soon, I will BOO the Ver.9 and go back to my trusty ver.8.

p.s. I hoped that the 9 will speed up my Vista 64-bit. Well, while it is not crashing, it is surely hanging up (freezes) quite often..... Any tricks in the "Preferences"? Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

p.p.s. Did u realise that you cannot drag the left side of a clip in the time line with the Overlap transition?
Grrrrrr.... Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

Couldn't figure out PD9 problems on my own, had no help from the Forum either.

Had to uninstal it all together and get back to my PD8.

What a great idea, works so nice and smooth. Doesn't hang or freeze. Will wait until ALL of pd9 bugs are solved and new built is out before will consider the purchase....

Andy,
the Cross or Overlay transition issue is well documented on the forum and there is a sticky on this forum where senior editors have added their concerns to a straw poll.

While Bernd's shows you how to place a transition which i guess you'd know already it doesn't explain the "shift movement" experienced by editors who didn't want their projects shortened and features in PiP tracks becoming out of sync.

The Cross transition allows for the first frame of the following clip to feature in the transition motion while the depth of the transition plays through the former clip. In an Overlay transition the area of the transition covers multiple frames - a merging as used in PD8.

For editors who want to circumvent the use of the Transition room and the dropdown action/placement, an editor should check the "Fade" featured in PiP designer and have full control by using the "rubber band" which appears on the clip in the track once the check mark and a keyframe has been activated. Many senior editors here have adopted this method as fade is by far the most commonly used transition.

With PD9 having multi-tracks, use PiP Designer's fade if you want more control.

Hey Dafydd, thanks! How are things? Thank you for jumping in...

My question was NOT about the difference of transitions really but the FREEZE... I will repeat...

Unqte

p.s. The same freeze took place if I wanted to adjust the length of a transition.... Read not to contradict and confute, nor to believe and take for granted... but to weigh and consider.

Hi Andy,

OK, you'll need to provide the Diagnostic file as in the guide below.

I'm not passing any judgement but Vista has been a pain for many video editors (using differing software products) and the quicker you upgrade to W7.... etc.

What you're experiencing is likely to be caused by your system, not being powerful enough, needing updates. I'm just guessing.
