If I understand you want to add a green background image over any video.
Must use tool, Chroma Key
In the timeline 2 clicks on the image, select and adjust for better quality. see picture

I'm trying to get the foreground picture to pop up in another part of the video without sliding

In addition to reinstalling new drivers or revert to old drivers that you know worked perfect.
Try to disable, hardware acceleration in the settings.

If you are going to create a DVD-Video, forget about the original file size, based on your time.
In step, Creat Disc, after making mine or not, select, 2D Disc.
See the picture is set for HQ 720v480 .... in this option will fit about 1 hour on the 4.7Gb DVD.
If the video has more time, select in this box, Smart Fit.
This option will make PD16 adjust the video to the size of the DVD.
If it still does not fit the disk, an option I use.
I create the DVD 9 saved in a folder in HD.
Then I use DVDShrink to compress DVD9 to DVD 4.7 because some DVD Player has difficulty reading DVD-DL (DVD8.5Gb.) Here in my region.

Under Produce, choose Intelligent SVRT
Find or create a Profile that works 100%
This is the best option.
If you do not have a compatible profile, you can
create a personal profile, based on the characteristics
of the original video.
In the timeline, right click on the video
choose View Properties, see values for Type, Bitrate, Resolution, Frame rate, Frame type.
You will use them to create a new Profile in Produce, Profile Type, (+) button

Afternoon Everyone,
I have an issue that I hope someone can help me with. I have a video file which is 1hr 40mins long and 2GB in size.
After I edit the video and make it just 50 minutes long and then Produce the video then the finished size is 4gb!!
I have googled this a lot and tried many different settings but can't find away to get the file the same size of left after editing
Can someone advise me how to get round this or what settings I should use?
Thanks
Ray

In the timeline
Right-click on Pip, select Copy Keyframe attributes
selects all pip that will modify
Right-click, select Paste Keyframe attributes
Does not work for mask
another way
add Pip to the timeline
Drag an image to over to Pip
From the Select menu, Replace

I have Power Director 16 and am trying to format a lot of different PIPs with the same attributes. Can I copy and Paste attributes other that key frame? Can I copy mask, position and size of PIP? Do I have to do them all individually? Thanks

This forum is specific to PD16.
Your case seems to be missing some video or audio encoder / decoder.
I use K-Lite_Codec_Pack, installed it adds many encoder / decoder that might solve your problem.
Quote
Trying to produce a completed video when at 47% completed the Media Source Error code 3 stops the process. On the media source error window it shows the error type to be "audio cut"? The material type was "audio". The window further implies that the project may not fully comply with the file format standard or system may lack the required decoding components for this file, etc. Use another media format (which didn't work either).
Windows 10 all drivers are either good or updated. Different PD formats were used which was to no avail.
It should be noted that prior to using PowerDirector I purchased Movavi video program. Here again the same problem occurred. I thought the problem was with Movavi at first. Early on Movavi attempted to help with the problem which was to no avail. Finally they requested my complete project to ascertain the problem. Unfortunately I never heard back from them.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I do not know if I understand your problem.
I think it refers to the FX effect Zoom In and Zoom Out
I do not know how to change the default value.
The way I do '.
First time setting, Duration button, in 1 sec (example)
After Keyframe Button, I set the start and end size to Zoom.
Quote
Is there a way to change the zoom in effect default ratio? I would like to have a slower zoom, the
default is 114, I would like to set it to a lower value.
I can do this image by image, keyframe by keyframe, but I am editing hundreds of images, so
its hard to do it one by one.
I could do a copy of the keyframe, and paste to multiple picture at once, the problem is, some pictures dont have the same resolution, so others are fine but on other images, zoom movement is erratic.
Is there any settings somewhere or a registery key I can change?
Or is there a way that I can copy an existing zoom in effect, then on my custom effect set its zoom ratio as lower value.

Hi all. I am new to this forum. I have been enjoying using the PowerDirector 16 to make some fun videos. I wanted to make an effect like fast rewind (like the old vcr). I noticed that it says cannot adjust speed in reverse clip. Is there any way to work around this?
Apprecaite your helpful advice.
Cheers,

Hi there,
I am editing a video project and I want to create multiple sequences in one timeline and edit each sequence separately and then combine them at the end. I am doing this to make it easy to edit.
I used to be able to do this with Adobe premeire but I am not using it anymore. Can anyone suggest how I can do that in Powerdirector 16.
thanks
Make 1 project for each sequence
Use Incert Project ... to join multiple projects in 1

Follow advice, from StevengG the best thing to do.
For your case now, an option add the videos in the timeline, track1 (camera 1) and track 2 (camera 2) or the opposite.
select the 2 video and Sync by Audio button, works well for 2 files, for many files it complicates but can be done
Sync ready, disable mute or delete the audio you do not want.

Thanks for the reply. I went ahead and started creating a set of repro steps to show the issue. In doing so what I found is that some of the title templates work fine and some don't. I think the basic titles work and the ones with anything but text dont.
Using the sample files, drop kite surfing onto V1. Then a simple text title onto the title track. If you drag "blur" onto the title track you see the title text blur nicely leaving the V1 video alone.
If you do the exact same thing except pick any of the title templates with a non-text object ( general linear circle for instance ) you will see that the entire video from V1 is suddenly blurred.
Even if internally CyberLink is doing a chroma-key to generate the mask for these object/text layers or something like that they would still have one to send to the effect engine.
This looks like a bug to me. What do you think?
Thanks
Jon
In your case add the effect inside Title Desingner
2 click text block, select the title, the left side has the options Blur, shadow, border, etc

I've been lurking for a while and have found many answers to my questions by pawing through these forums. Thanks!
I have a feeling the answer to this is no, but I'm finding one major issue that I can't seem to get around...
In all the other products I had been testing, effects can be applied to a generated track and are specific to that track. For instance a Wind effect could be applied to a title track and the text would warp appropriately. I never even considered that PowerDirector would not work this way (I purchased the Director Suite not realizing this.) Currently any effects I add apply to all layers if the effect is dropped on a text clip. I have seen a few mentions in this forum of making a separate project, rendering just the title, then importing the video. Yes, this would work but it completely nullifies the point of a title generator if I can't edit it as the project moves along.
Am I missing something or is there currently a major limitation here?
Thanks much
Jon
I do not know if I understand your question.
In PD you can add text in any video track
New PD16, can add many FX tracks, should be below the track that is with text that wants to give the effect.
The effect can also be applied directly to the text block, in which case you do not need to add track FX.
In PD and unlike other editors, the lower track always overlaps the top track

PD16 is installed on my G:\ProgramFiles.
Where should the Essentials and the other necessary downloads go?
The Essentials exe installed itself on the G:\Program Files (x86) and I couldn't see anything in the library. So I uninstalled and am hoping for direction from the Comunity. Please!!
I think should do the default installation, normal in C: \ Program Files \ CyberLink \ PowerDirector16
Package effects will be in C: \ Users \ "name of your PC" \ Documents \ CyberLink \ PowerDirector \ 16.0

hello all, iam new to power director and would like to know how to fade in and fade out text over a clip, when i put text over a clip the text just comes on and goes off, i would like the text to fade in and fade out not just cut off at the end.
2 click on the text block, open Title Designer, Effect Button, find in Starting effect "FADE" the same for Ending Effect.
You can also add FADE transition directly at the beginning and end of the text block

What does online activation mean. downloaded pd16 and entered activation codes supplied.
looked on internet how to do online activation but they are not clear on process to achieve this.
but it seems clear that this is solution.
do not understand why this would be an extra installation step when most functionality works easily and i have loads of my own mpeg2 movies.
MPEG2 encoder activation is automatic. the first time you use MPEG2 files, you have a message if the PC is not online.
It may be another problem, this is only a possibility

PD has a minimum limit for bitrate (768 kbps), if the original video is even smaller, there is no way.
Also if the original is 4x3 (aspect ratio) and will produce (16x9) increases the file.

Hello all,
I am trying to figure out if their is a way to save edited video to a tag or folder within PD instead of having to save it to a whole project? I want to be able to edit footage and save that work for potential other projects and not have to re-edit the footage I already did. So basically trying to edit clips, trim video and save it somewhere that will save it as I have edited it to be. Any help or ideas would be great.
I'm not sure if I understand
To save video for future use, I usually save in MP4 fullhd in a folder (working videos)
To save only part of a video project, in the timeline, select the part with the yellow arrow, go to the Produce Range button and save to video.
You can use the same process to save part of a project.
Select the part with the yellow arrow, Copy button
File, New project, In empty timeline, Paste button, new project

I've imported a file that has the format H.264 640x480 and is 17.9mb. When I produce it using the same exact codec and file size, without any editing, the output is 274mb. Why is the file so big? Is the codec not working?
I've even tried other codecs and still get a much larger file size. Why is Powerdirector doing this?
Try using the SVRT feature.
PD16 will try to render the video in the same format as the original, you may need to create a new profile.
If PD16 can not create a profile, you can do so manually.
In the timeline, right-click on the video, select View Properties, note values, bit rate, Resolution, Frame rate
In Produce Button (+) Create a new profile)

I've got a multicam timeline and have to crop every time I change clips. About 1/3 of the crops are similar but I don't find any place for making a crop preset. The other crops vary. These are the clicks I have to make for every clip.
1.tools
2.power tools
3.crop and zoom check box
4.crop/zoom button
5.freeform
6.click blue dot center crop area before any adjustments possible
7.start adjusting crop size
8.ok
So I'm interested to see if I can speed up this tedious process. Thanks
try it
Select the video, Direct action on the image in the Preview screen
Keyframe button, Clip Attributes, for more resources.
