PD will not import movies produced by previous versions of power director. Have used most versions of PD.
files play with VLC media player.
Other editing software will not import my movies - generally vision but no sound.

PD16 needs to do online activation to work with MPEG2 files AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD
Windows 7-64 / PD16 Ultimate

thanks for your time
What does online activation mean. downloaded pd16 and entered activation codes supplied.
looked on internet how to do online activation but they are not clear on process to achieve this.
but it seems clear that this is solution.
do not understand why this would be an extra installation step when most functionality works easily and i have loads of my own mpeg2 movies.

Hi,

Can you clarify exactly what the issue is? I have no problem importing, playing and editing MPEG2 files produced in older versions back in 2009.

You have successfully used PD versions in the past with no similar issues, but now MPEG2 video files produced by earlier versions will not import.

Can you supply the PDR16 version no.?

Is it only MPEG2 videos produced by previous versions or do other file types also give rise to an issue? If you can give as much detail as possible it would be useful.

Do they actually import and play in the media library but not in the timeline, or do they give rise to an error message on import?

Has this always happened with PDR16 or is it something new?

Has anything else changed on your system - like Win10 updates or new drivers?

Thanks

MPEG2 encoder activation is automatic. the first time you use MPEG2 files, you have a message if the PC is not online.
It may be another problem, this is only a possibility AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3

hi moderator
version 16.0.2524.0 and all versions since pd16 launch.
NOTE: Mpeg2 files produced by PD16 and all previous versions of PD will not import into PD16
error message says something about deleting shadow file but nothing will make PD accept mpeg2.
Now producing MP4 movies from camera files (23.9 frames HD1920 canon) which work well and can be re-imported into PD16
