As a NEWBIE, my experience is limited but Support has responded to all my PD12 and 13 problems and experienced users on the forum have taken time to explain all other issues.

Giving the product a bad review might vent some steam and make you feel better but I doubt it will solve your problems.

If you think Cyberlink is bad - try Windows Support! Since DOS I have upgraded to every version of windows released to date hoping it would be better. Vista was the worst and now I'm hoping Win 10 might answer my prayers.
Quote: Can you mount the ISO in a virtual drive (like the free Virtual Clonedrive or Daemon Tools Lite) and open it to see what the file/folder structure is of the ISO that PD saves?

Bill W pointed me in the right direction. I have found a temporary work-around so that users can create a playable DVD from PD13 ISO files.

I found that Win8.1 has a hidden feature and can mount an ISO in a Virtual Drive without additional software. You can only burn one DVD at a time. It's not ideal but I have tested it on 2D ISO's and it works for DVD, AVCHD DVD, and Blu-ray.

Please read : http://windows.about.com/od/windowsforbeginners/a/How-To-Mount-Or-Burn-Iso-Files-In-Windows-8.htm

  1. Open the folder containing your PD13 ISO and click on the ISO File.

  2. A new tab will appear at the top of Explorer called "DISK IMAGE TOOLS".

  3. Click on the tab and you will see "MOUNT" (which will create a Virtual Drive you can see in MY PC) and "BURN".

  4. Click on BURN and it will create a playable DVD from from your PD13 project ISO image.

So, until Cyberlink gives us a solution, this will work.

The DVD world is not as simple as I thought. Here is a link with a table with all info in an easy to understand layout.

Hi Rondalee1,

I upgraded from PD12 ULT to PD13 ULT. It was an on-line purchase and download without "upgrade" instructions. Most Upgrade software dectcts if you have an older version and uninstalls it before upgrading. I was suprised to find I still had PD12 after installing PD13. I wasn't sure what I should do so I uninstalled PD12 AFTER installing 13 and I'm still not sure if I did the right thing. Seems strange to me.

I still have PD12 Content Packs (essentials and premium) installed and same PD13 Content Packs as I am not sure the PD13 add-ons have all of the features of 12 - or they may be conflicting so I would also like to know if I should uninstall the old ones??

Maybe ask Support if Forum members can't help. Please let me know what you find as this must be a common problem for most PD13 users who had previos versions.

Thanks,

Al
I have found from Support that the only was to use the ISO images created in Power Director 13 to create playable DVDs is to use P2Go. It works great and I can produce DVD's, and BluRay DVD's from completed projects as needed in a fraction of the time. For example I have a 45min video from PD13. If I want a DVD of the project it takes PD13 an hour to render and produce. If I use PD13 to create an ISO of the project and I use P2Go 9 it take 3 minutes to write a new DVD every time I need one so it is an extremely usefull feature in PD13. The ISO img created by PD13 creates an unplayable DVD if burned directly using Windows ISO.

Unfortunately, P2Go 9 free download expires 2 weeks after trial leaving the user with P2Go Essentials free which will open the ISO file but will not create a DVD forcing PD13 users to buy the full version.

I don't believe it is fair to those who have purchased PD13 to be forced to buy more software to use a PD13 feature or to have to find third-party to use it. I don't want to spend $90 on P2Go when this is the only feature I need.

Cyberlink - Please enable P2Go Essentials free to write DVDs from the ISO file so your PD13 customers can use this feature.

Thanks,

Al
AVCHD is another option for good quality (if your project will fit on a normal DVD) and cheaper - but needs a BluRay player.

Like Barry I also have to produce DVDs. My internet is very slow and I cannot upload 1gb+ vids to the web. My Input is 1920x1080 50p but I am disappointed in my normal PD13 reduced quality DVDs. I use PAL 25 or 50fps.

According to Wiki, DVD format supports "DVD-Video uses H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2 compression at up to 9.8 Mbit/s. At a display rate of 25 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 50 Hz image scanning frequency):720x576 pixels (same resolution as D-1)" D-1 is required for 16:9 DVDs.

In PD13 I can produce MPEG-2, DVD HQ 720x576/50i, 8Mbps Mpeg files which look better to me than if I use Create Disc, 2D, 16:9, Mpeg-2, HQ-Best Quality and let it render and produce a DVD. I use Create Disc to have Titles and chapters,

Does anyone know what "Best-Quality" is?

My BluRay DVDs look good 16:9, H.264, HD1920x1080/50i, but maybe not as good as the AVC MP4 file produced at 1920x1080on my TV.

I do produce an AVC H.264 1920x1080/25p 16 Mpbs MP4 file to view best quality on my TV before I produce BluRay, AVCHD, or normal DVD's.

What is AVC M2TS? I can produce an Mp4 AVC at 1920x1080/50p 28Mbps which is higher quality than my MP4 file.

What is AVC MKV?

Im not sure what XAVC S is for??

Thanks

Al
Hi Guys - Valuable tips but not sure I fully understand. Might be slightly off-topic but please bear with me.

I am producing DVD's and Blu-Ray DVD's. My source is 1920x1080 50p AVCHD and MP4 clips and my pics are edited in Photo Director 6 and then sent to PD13 where I convert them to SlideShows with motion on the timeline.

I only use PRODUCE to create an AVC H264 Mpeg4 1920x1080/25p. I put the MP4 file on a USB Stick to view on my HD TV to look at overall quality before I create DVDs with Menus. So I jump straight from EDIT to CREATE DISC to make DVDs. We are on PAL so 25fps and 50fps.

My BluRay settings are: 16:9, H.264, HD 1920x1080/50i

My DVD settings are: 16:9 MPEG-2, HQ-Best Quality

I don't think I understand how the PRODUCE function affects CREATE DISC.

In this thread:

Jeff says:

"I follow these basic steps: 1) Always produce to your source video footage format

2) If (1) is not possible, then produce to highest end product target you envision. So if one thinks you might make a couple of BD's as well as DVD's, then always produce to the BD spec of your desire (H.264 1920x1080/60i 24Mbps) works great for me as that's most of my source footage is as well. "

Tony:

"Jeff's suggested workflow is best. Render everything to MPEG-2 DVD HQ because that's how it will end up on the DVD."

"When the final DVD is burnt, it'll be MPEG-2 740x480 @ ~8MBps."

I have been disappointed with the normal DVD quality. Does this mean that if I PRODUCE (render) a mpeg file using MPEG-2, DVD HQ 720x576/50i, 8Mbps my DVD quality will be better than jumping straight to CREATE DISC? If so how do I add Menus? Should I open a new project, go to CREATE DISC, Content, and then add my 720x576 mpeg file? Will I get better results? I can add a title but can only write my 2D DVD in "Best Quality" - or does it mean that if I write the Mpg2 file directly to a DVD that it will give me a playable DVD in higher quality without the Menu? Why don't we have options other than "Best Quality" if it's possible to create DVDs in various qualities?

According to Wiki

"The following formats are allowed for H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2 video:

At a display rate of 25 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 50 Hz image scanning frequency)(PAL):

720x576 pixels (same resolution as D-1)

704x576 pixels352x576 pixels (same as the China Video Disc standard)

352x288 pixels

Widescreen video is supported only in D-1 resolutions."

If I have just confused myself please tell me I need to find a new hobby!

I do appreciate the time taken on the forum by by experienced users to help us Newbies.smile

Thanks again,

Hi Barry - Don't know what you mean by "couldn't be bothered". I tried ImgBurn and Windows ISO to burn DVD. I have a lot of unplayable wasted DVD's. Both gave me unplayable DVDs. But Power2Go works on the same ISO for DVD, BluRay, 2D and 3D and produces perfect DVD's. It may have worked for you but not me. I'm no expert but please don't accuse without asking.

I also tried BillW's suggestion posted above on 16/03/2015 02:10:38. It worked, but is cumbersome compared to one click with Power2Go 10.

I Posted on LISTEN TO THIS because it was a suggestion on what I believe is a necessary product enhancement allowing PDR13 users to easily make use of the ISO output which would be an invaluable feature if they provide us with the tools to use it.

So far the moderators haven't removed it smile
Hi Barry,

I used BillW's instructions in the thread after creating an unplayable DVD with ImgBurn so I may have made a mistake. Point is, I don't think I should have to get, or learn, 3rd party software to use PDR13 fearures - or be forced to buy additional software. Hence, my suggestion in this thread.

Quote: AlS,
if you would have tried just a little bit, you would have downloaded IMGburn(free) and tried to burn your ISO. I did it for you, and it worked, very easily.
Furthermore you are using all cap letters, essentially yelling at Cyberlink for no good reason.

Thanks Barry,

I'll try to explain and please correct me if I am wrong.

Back to the thread https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/42989.page#222812 I started

and thread https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/43052.page

I have tried ImgBurn but as you know the PD13 ISO will not play if burned to DVD.

The only way I have found (after wasting several DVDs to test) is cumbersome at best and you cannot use the PD13 ISO. You have to use a playable DVD and copy the two folders, then use ImgBurn to Build a project and add the folders, then find Options and make sure File System is ISO9660+ UDF 1.02 (there are several UDF versions avilable). This is cumbersome at best and does not solve the problem of how to create a playable DVD from the PD13 ISO img. I also could not find anything the PD13 User Manual on how to use the ISO img. Though powerful, IsoBurn is hardly user-friendly

Fabbian (above thread) found that if he right-clicked on the ISO image and "Open With" Power2Go it would burn a playable DVD with one click. He did not purchase Power2Go so he assumes it came with his PD13 install from Disc. I downloaded P2Go tried it and it worked for DVD, BluRay, 2D and 3D. Quick (It created a Blu-Ray from the ISO in 3 minutes - PDR13 took over an hour to create the disc).

Once the P2Go 10 trial expired I was left with Essentials which opens the PD13 ISO but will not write to Disc. Error says "Upgrade".

I contacted Cyber Support and aked why Fabbian got P2Go with his PD13 and others did not, and if there was any way to use the ISO file from PD13.

They replied "In regards to your concern, I would like to inform you that you need to mount the ISO omage first in order to make the image playable when burned to a DVD. However, the feature to mount the image is not available in PowerDirector software. However, this feature is available in Power2Go 10. Please feel free to contact us back for any further clarification or for any assistance related to CyberLink Products."

My interpretation of the reply is that PD13 users cannot use the PD13 created ISO. So back to my request that Cyberlink should provide us with either a playable ISO file, or give us the P2Go Write to DVD with P2Go Essentials (free). I don't want or need any of the other P2Go 10 Ult features. Why should I have to spend $90 on additional softwate?

If I "yelled", at least it got your attention, so I'm hoping Cyberlink noticed as well. To me this is an Urgent product improvemet to either give us the option in PD13 to "Create Disk" from the ISO or add the feature to P2Go Free version.

The ISO img is a great feature to create DVD's as needed quickly and easily - if we had the tools.

Warm Regards,

Al laughing
PD13 ISO

Support has confirmed that we cannot create playable DVDs from the ISO img output feature in PDR13 without buying additional software - which is Power2Go 10. This leaves a valuable feature useless to us all.

Please include include a means of using this feature or include it the free version of Power2Go Essentials Free version.

Thanks
Quote: The website says that Power2Go 10 Essential is a FREE download that does NOT expire. When you d/l it, you also get a 15-day trial of the Platinum version which does expire.

For the purposes being discussed here, what exactly is it that the Essential (free) version won't do? It really isn't clear on the CL site what the differences are.

Hi Eldor - The feature missing from Essentials is the ability to create a playable DVD from a PDR13 ISO project img so we are being forced to buy the full P2Go software to make use of a valuable feature in PDR13 whic is otherwise useless.
The ONLY reason I used Power2Go was that I could not create a playable DVD or BluRay DVD from the ISO image created by PDR13. P2Go worked very well and was the only way I could find to create DVDs fast as neede from the ISO image but as soon as trial period expired aand left me with P2Go Essentials I can open the ISO img but it wiil not write a DVD forcing me to buy the full version.

Here is what I cannot understand:

  1. Why does PDR13 create an ISO which when burned to DVD will not play. If it did I would not have this problem.

  2. Why did Fabbian (above) get P2Go with his PD13 disk and and its not included with the online purchase download?

  3. Why should we be forced to buy P2Go in order to use a PDR13 Ult feature?

I am having same problem with Power2Go 10 trial.
When trial time limit expires popup says "Upgrade". So it IS offering the user and upgrade price for the Trial version.

Thanks Dafydd
I think this is a PDR13 problem and have sent to support but will also post on P2Go as you suggest.

Bad news - Power2Go 10 trial expired leaving me with Essentials - which does not write DVD from PDR13 ISO img.

They are forcing us to buy more software to make use of the PDR13 ISO img feature. Problem is that the PDR13 ISO does not play when img is burned to disk. The only way I found to get a playable DVD was with P2Go.

Surely Cyberlink needs to either include the feature with free P2Go Essentials OR PDR13 should create a playable DVD ISO img???
Does v2801 include v2604 or should v2604 be installed first?
Thanks

PD13 manual doesn't explain what ISO is for. Maybe you can add to PD13 suggestions and ask the to include ISO Viewer with PD13 software.

Thanks Al
User Guides excellent - Thanks

I meant PowerProducer will burn ISO files.

Thanks for clarifying that. It saves me wasting more time looking for a method that doesn't exist.

SOLVED - I found a solution and can now create fast DVD and BLURAY discs from PD13 ISO images as needed.

See last post on this topic http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/42989.page

OK I have finally cracked the problem and can now create playable DVDs from a PD13 ISO image at high speed.

I have tested it and it works!!

1) In PD13 select "Create Disc" then under the 2D Disc tab choose DVD or BluRay and your settings.

2) Next select "Burn in 2D" (I haven't tried 3D yet).

3) Under "Final Output" select "Save As Disc Image". It will then render and create the ISO image of the project.

4) Download and install Power2Go 10 Essentials - Its FREE software and does not expire!!!!

http://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/power2go-platinum/download_en_US.html

5) Right click on your PD13 ISo created above and select "Open With" Cyberlink ISO Viewer

6) In ISO Viewer choose "Burn To Disc" Icon and you will create a playable DVD from the ISO.

Its fast, easy, and free. I used a 45min PD13 project. PD13 took 30 min to render and write a DVD.

ISO Viewer took 3 min to write a DVD from the ISO image - and the quality is perfect!

UPDATE - I also used the same project to create a BluRay (H.264) DVD. PD13 took over an ahour to render and create the DVD. ISO Viewer creates the BluRay DVD in 3 min from the BluRay ISO.

Now I can quickly create project DVD's on demand!
