In Create Disc.Content + add the video file.

Preferences menu, select a menu or No menu.

2D disc, DVD, 16: 9 HQ - Best Quality

Burn in 2D, Burn to Disc (Record direct to DVD)

PD must be configured to PAL, will convert the FullHD video to DVD automatically. AMD-FX 8350 / 8GB DDR3
SSD SUV400S37240G / 2-HD WD 1TB
AMD Radeon R9 270 / AOC M2470SWD
Windows 7-64 / PD16 Ultimate

Hi WCE123,
You've asked about creating/spec choices for the production of a DVD from HD video and that you're a beginner.

OK, You should be aware of the loss of quality you'll experience when you downgrade your recorded video from HD to DVD. You may want to consider different options in an effort to retain and display your video.

Options:
Streamed HD video (hosting sites like Vimeo)
BluRay/AVCHD disc production will retain your HD quality, you need a BluRay player to view.
Portable USB device, connected to your TV. You can make an HD video and display it on your TV, retaining the full res.

These are the options i can think of for the moment. I prefer the USB route as it's easy and most TV's display etc.

Hi,

Ok - Portable USB device, connected to your TV. You can make an HD video and display it on your TV, retaining the full res.

Is the option I think I will go for, what are the settings I will use as per Playsound suggested or will they be different?

Cheers

Hi WCE123 ,
The Produce template profile you should select, should be the same as the spec of the camera captured video.

To help you identify which that is please use MediaInfo and provide the data as a text file attachment. Look up the Guide Part J. http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/40225.page
The MediaInfo is exactly what we need.

Portable USB device (like a Memory Key) a good choice. A couple of pointers,
1. Get a USB cable extension (USB 2.0 -M/F) as they make it a lot easier to link up the TV to a device. Leave the cable in the TV (that's what I do).
2. Output is a Produced file with no menu, locate on the TV screen and play.

Dafydd

Hi WCE123 ,

Thanks for the info.

Ok, here's a pointer. You may not want to "edit" the video you have given the MediaInfo on, source is a BluRay disc (home made). All you need to bring the video into a USB would be to right click on the BR and extract the video content. Then drag it into (Copy/Paste) the USB device.

However, as you may also just want to edit the video and then place it in the USB device, please view the attached image/route.

When you start editing camera captured video, select on your camera 1080p and select in PDR/Produce a 1080p profile*.

*The profile I have directed you to in the image is 1080i (interlaced) and is not one I use but it is suitable for the video you have. I would opt to capture and edit 1080p (progressive). Do a bit of Google/Wiki searching to read up on i/p if you're unsure as to my references.

Dafydd

PS. Edit video that is on your Hard Drive, never from a disc (drive) or from a portable device.

Just as an aside, I wonder how many people like me have stopped burning DVD's completely.

Dafydd mentions streaming using an Internet host. There is also the option of streaming, as I do, over a local network and I have a dedicated external USB drive connected to my router for this purpose.

I've got a box full of blank media that'll probably never get used undecided

I still burn quite a few DVDs and BR discs, as that's what people keep asking me for, and they love the printed discs, which usually hold both a movie with menu, and a version for streaming.
My thoughts are disc media aint dead yet. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

AVCHD is another option for good quality (if your project will fit on a normal DVD) and cheaper - but needs a BluRay player.

Like Barry I also have to produce DVDs. My internet is very slow and I cannot upload 1gb+ vids to the web. My Input is 1920x1080 50p but I am disappointed in my normal PD13 reduced quality DVDs. I use PAL 25 or 50fps.

According to Wiki, DVD format supports "DVD-Video uses H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2 compression at up to 9.8 Mbit/s. At a display rate of 25 frames per second, interlaced (commonly used in regions with 50 Hz image scanning frequency):720x576 pixels (same resolution as D-1)" D-1 is required for 16:9 DVDs.

In PD13 I can produce MPEG-2, DVD HQ 720x576/50i, 8Mbps Mpeg files which look better to me than if I use Create Disc, 2D, 16:9, Mpeg-2, HQ-Best Quality and let it render and produce a DVD. I use Create Disc to have Titles and chapters,

Does anyone know what "Best-Quality" is?

My BluRay DVDs look good 16:9, H.264, HD1920x1080/50i, but maybe not as good as the AVC MP4 file produced at 1920x1080on my TV.

I do produce an AVC H.264 1920x1080/25p 16 Mpbs MP4 file to view best quality on my TV before I produce BluRay, AVCHD, or normal DVD's.

What is AVC M2TS? I can produce an Mp4 AVC at 1920x1080/50p 28Mbps which is higher quality than my MP4 file.

What is AVC MKV?

Im not sure what XAVC S is for??

Thanks

Al

The DVD world is not as simple as I thought. Here is a link with a table with all info in an easy to understand layout.
