You might want to add your system specs to your signature - so we can all see you magic PC
Do you have shadow files turned on for your setup?
Not sure if this is the same question but I'm also not sure what to choose when using video from my Samsung SIII phone.

Project:
setting is 30FPS (NTSC) (Project screen-shot)

Frame rate of the 2 video clips I'm adding is 30FPS.

So when I add them to the time-line I get a mismatch "the frame rat of the clip is 30fps and the timeline is 29.97 fps.

Then when I choose produce and SVRT it:

a) doesn’t find my custom profile
b) suggest a separate profile for each video clip (nothing you cant select)

What is the correct way to use this video format in PD?

Video clip format info also attached.
Thank you all for input.

So nothing a bit more official from Cyberlink on what cards are supported and what cards work well (other than what is on the system requirement page)?

This guy has some useful info on hardware in general and it is well presented for beginners also. He uses Adobe products, but some of it is also applicable in making choices for other video editing software (like PD).

Graphic cards he talks about towards the end of the video.

Any benefits from the g-card that anyone has notice on running stabilizer on a video clip with "Use enhanced stabilizer" turned on?
I have looked at the PD 13 system requirement page:
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdirector-ultra/spec_en_US.html?&r=1

It is not very helpful in choosing a graphics card.

To make an informed decision it would be useful to know:

  • Is anyone aware of video card benchmarks using PD 13 with different video cards?

  • It would be nice to see benchmarks for different source material low/medium/high resolution footage.

  • Also what compression the format is using none/low/high (so you know if it benefits your format).

  • Are the graphic cards listed on the required system page the "only preferred and tested" cards?

  • What areas do you see the biggest performance difference between video cards?

  • How much help is the video card when applying "Stabilizer AND checking the "Use enhanced stabilizer" option to a video clip? Will it play smoothly from the time-line or do you still need to "Render Preview" it?

" I thought I heard it laugh at me. " - That's funny

It messed up your day but you made me laugh
Hi icue, I guess you are directing your comments at Lea56 and Myk not me (I already use a dual X5670 in an HP z600 workstation)

But Power Supply is a good point - another reason to get a Workstation - the z600 has a 650-Watts one standard.

The point you made about Ram is also true. Mine came with a bunch of ram - so the extra ram is not going to waste in my case - I created a Ram drive (use software like ImDisk to create dynamic ram drive) for some extra performance
I agree Myk

I also did not build a system, all I did was pick a base Workstation that had the parts I needed/could afford and add the bits I already had.
Others might pick a full system, with everything already added.
Hmmm, interesting statement Myk

Any reason one would rather get an AMD A10 6800K
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD+A10-6800K+APU

rather than a single x5660 (like SoNic67 has)
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+X5660+%40+2.80GHz

or even an OLD dual x5670 like I got
https://cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+X5670+%40+2.93GHz&id=1307&cpuCount=2

if one could get them for less $$ and then add a solid video card to then?
SoNic67 is spot on!

I followed his example and took a chance and bought a bare HP Z600 workstation on ebay with some solid processing power (got more power for less money than buying something new - but you do take a bit of a risk).

This review is a year old but will show you how a good older workstation will work wonders with video.
http://videohive.net/forums/thread/modern-consumer-build-vs-old-monster-workstation/121982

You need a good base (processor and enough memory).
I used all the best bits of my old computer (see full specs below) to fill in some of the gaps. Video card still needs upgrading.

Used PD 13 with Windows 7 and 8 (you will need the pro version if you get a dual cpu version) - works fine with both.
The upgrade to Windows 10 will be free (if I'm not mistaken).
I know tools like ScenalyzerLive are great tools for this kind of job, but if one buys video editing software that has this "features" that by now should be full vetted since it is old technology then one is very disappointed after wasting a bunch of time to get it to work just to have to find another piece of software to do the task.

If the feature don't work:
A. Fix it
B. Remove it and tell your users to use something else.

Either way, it starts with a support ticket.
It is best to create a detailed list of:
Equipment you use (camcorder, computer, software versions,…)
Then the detailed steps you follow with screenshots attached.
Then post this in the forum.

If it is something you are doing wrong then someone in the forum will help you.
If it is an issue with the software (I think it is), then all you need to do is add the link to the forum post and they will have all the info in the support ticket.
I had exactly the same experience as you tommyg.

If you have any gaps/glitches in the time-code it gets very confused. Running it multiple times gave me different results each time.
I ended up capturing the complete video (as one file) and then use "scene detection" that is also not without issues in PD13
see post: http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/42621.page

My suggestion is to record the steps in detail and send in a support ticket that refers to this post.

CyberLink acknowledged that they are able to reproduce the issue and engineers are assigned to look into it.

This is the second issue I have with DV-AVI format (the other was with SVRT - also posted in the forum) that is not affecting other formats like MP4 or MPEG-2.
dugger66 - Post your system specs (so we are sure your system has the GO to run PD 13 proper).

Also do you have some special Antivirus software running?
Yup that would be a good tool to replace the Windows Movie Maker in my steps above. You still need something else (like I used the dv camcorder) to convert analog to digital format (if you have a analog source). I used my camcorder - since I already owned that so it was free
What video source are you trying to import since you are looking at analog cards (or did I just miss it in your post)?

I used a digital camcorder to convert my(old) s-vhs videos into a digital format so I could capture it via a cheap 1394 firewire card (PCI slot) (and using Windows Movie Maker) - The process did not work so well with PD.
This is the process shown by someone on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-vnL4nCv2RM

But it all depends what source video you have.
I see a new fix is out for PD 13
Noting of my stuff but might have some good news for others

Fixes the issue that certain HDV camcorders cannot be detected in the Capture window.
Fixes the issue that sometimes there are random black frames in produced slideshows.
Fixes the issue that PowerDirector 13 takes a long time to complete image cropping when lots of images are added to the timeline.
Fixes the issue that 2K/4K video resolution is incorrect when produced with NVIDIA GPU hardware encoding enabled.
Fixes the issue that the disc menu options cannot be accessed using the up/down arrow keys in some customized disc menus.
Fixes the issue that NVIDIA hardware encoding is not utilized when burning discs with the H.264 interlaced profile.
Fixes crash issue encountered when performing Multi Trim function on 4K video clips in the 32bit version.
Fixes crash issue encountered when opening specific projects, modifying, and then re-saving them.
Post your system (computer) and video source file info.
This will give info on what is causing the issue.

This post will give you info on what info is needed.

Please provide Full Media Properties for your source and output files.

Seach for MediaInfo in the following post if you need help in how to do that.
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/29701.page

That will give everyone an exact "picture" of your video files - without the picture
What are you "Produce" format and settings details in PD?
