Previewing movie jumps forward

It seems like every time I have a clip that I have sped up, when I preview the movie it will play for a few seconds and then jump ahead several minutes. This happens even if I am not playing the actual clip that was sped up. In order to work check the video, I have to render it and watch it, then go back to editing. Please help!
