Video capture cards supported by PowerDirector 13

Can anyone recommend a video capture card that works with PowerDirector 13? I have a VideoMate C500 PCI but the capture software that comes with it is useless. PowerDirector 13 does not recognise the card so I'm considering purchasing another card. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro.

Lots of thinks come into play on this one.
How much $$ you want to spend and slots/power availability of your system.

Make sure to look at:

And this might also be useful (older version of PD but might help with the choice)

Review sites also tell you what card they use (so should be a good choice)

Black Magic Design are one of the important "players" in the 4K video field. They even have their own editing software (kind of unconventional), with the "lite" version free:

Thanks for the feedback. I like that the black magic card comes with its own capture software. There should be no excuse for it not working then!

From the review sites I've read, the only device I've seen that is quoted as working well with PD13 is the Hauppage USB Live2. Anyone used this?

I have a reasonably specced system (latest gen i7) but don't have a spare PCIe port at the moment. The ethernet on my motherboard died and I have an ethernet adapter in the spare PCIe port. I only have PCI ports spare unless I buy a PCI network card.

What video source are you trying to import since you are looking at analog cards (or did I just miss it in your post)?

I used a digital camcorder to convert my(old) s-vhs videos into a digital format so I could capture it via a cheap 1394 firewire card (PCI slot) (and using Windows Movie Maker) - The process did not work so well with PD.
This is the process shown by someone on YouTube:

But it all depends what source video you have.

Try the free WinDV instead.

Yup that would be a good tool to replace the Windows Movie Maker in my steps above. You still need something else (like I used the dv camcorder) to convert analog to digital format (if you have a analog source). I used my camcorder - since I already owned that so it was free
