Hi Allister,
this criticism has been noted many times and is a matter of preference. What you refer to is the ability really to use the chapter function as a menu for multiple titles and I have wanted this as well. Chapters really are just points in the video to jump to quickly and not really to be played as a separate "titles".
Remember also that PD is not a complete authoring programme - it just offers a simple authoring module to make an all-in-one package.

If you’d like to send donations so I have something to eat while I’m out videographing, they’d be greatly appreciated!
Hi Tony,
If you are ever up my way and in need of accommodation we always have the dog house
I'm envious as always...although the Pana is great, if I do it all over again, I probably would go the Canon.
Edit woah...I see what you mean about a donation....just looked up the price on ryda

However there is very little to add after 2227c so personally I will wait until the next patch.

every time I open it a flash screen pops up in the bottom right telling me to upgrade to version 2227c.
Mmmmm....the programme might have innate intuition.
I am sure you have searched the forum for this and found multiple threads and a variety of answers but they all seem to be unreliable for individual cases. I have intermittent problems burning to Disc but not to HDD. Sorry but no answer from me I'm afraid.

Don't know - Just a thought that's all.

To Tony -
did you mute the PIP track before rendering?

At least when rendering to .MP4 I can take advantage of GPU encoding, which significantly reduces my render times. Any additional input from the other experts in this forum would be appreciated as well.
Hi Jay,
you should be able to use GPU encoding for AVCHD and it has more reliable quality than non-GPU encoding.

There has been multiple requests over numerous thread about the patch prior to the magic motion stuff up.
I have 2227c hosted on a public share. I don't know if I am allowed to do this and I will remove it if Dafydd or Cyberlink ask me to do so. I am merely trying to help those out who are waiting for the resolution (which is forthcoming I believe).
PM me.

My offer still stands. PM me.

The problem is, that You can only choose between Pal 25p and NTSC 30P and there is no option to change the settings to 50p/50i
Tommy,
You are getting a little confused (or more likely you are confusing me : )
PAL and NTSC are SD TV standards which convey the colour information. NTSC runs at 30 FPS interlaced and PAL 25 FPS interlaced. This was due to the bandwidth limitations at the time and the fact with phosphor based screens interlacing worked well.
When you choose PAL or NTSC in PD preferences it will apply the standards to the output when required (eg DVD standards) but will also set the default frame rate to either 25 or 30.
If you have a camera which captures at 50i or 25p, irrespective of the resolution, it is best to select PAL. When you render to AVCHD & MPEG2, PD will automatically use a 25fps rate.
Also PD cannot render to MPEG2 1080/50p only 1080/50i

After installing the Core AVC (and Haali Media splitter, that is included),
Have a read of this

That is impressive if that codec can run AVCHD on those specs

Hi Tommy,
What is the model no of the camera? I might be able to find & download a test file and see if I have the problem.
Or if you have a share account you could post a short clip to download.

Hi pjc,
When you say mixed media are you referring to 25 fps and 29.97 fps (mixing PAL video with NTSC)? I'll be making a wedding video this summer with three cameras. One of the cameras is an old Hi8 while the other is my new Cannon HG20. Have you tried making a project combining high definition and standard definition?
Jim
Have combined resolutions without any problems. It is just the frame rate conversion which stuff it up if you mix 30fps and 25fps. Mind you it is really only very noticeable on panning shots.

Tommy,
It sounds like you have your preference as NTSC.
Powerdirector has no problems handling mpeg4 50i
press AltC
general tab
TV format should = PAL

Thanks Cranston for the link. He seems to make the task complicated.
I just went through a project and lined up all my PIPs.
Method:
1. get your .pds file
2. Right click > open with notepad
3. Edit > find
4. enter "CenterX="" (this is the beginning of the code for the PIP positioning)
5. Find Next then edit to center X & Y at 0.5 and height & width at 1.0.
I "saved as" just to make sure I didn't stuff up the original project.
It works fine. Can I tell the difference? Not sure but at least I know the PIP isn't rescaled.

There is no doubt PD is buggy but at the price point it compares favourably with it's competitors. I get constant hanging and "need to close" messages with VS and some of the others don't handle the Pana AVCHD at all.

Hi Tommy,
What format are the files? Mpeg4/AVCHD or Mpeg2? When you say SD do you mean 576p? (which I believe was coined "ED" for extended definition).
Anyway the frame rate is generally more important when using mixed media so the final product should still be OK once rendered at 1080i(50Hz). Have you tried rendering the project yet?

The cheapest online CS4 including Premiere will cost me AUD3435.
Just a tad more than the AUD99 I paid for PD7

Hi Kevin
I have done this many times. There is no easy way as far as I can tell and I would love to find out any tricks others have.
I use the Video track for the baseline video and master audio and the PIP for the other shots. Sound like you are doing the same. To match then up I zoom in and use the audio display to match the peaks and troughs. Then I play the clip back with both audio tracks active to make sure there is no echo, then mute the PIP clip.
A useful feature would be an auto sizing on the PIP track to enlarge the clip to full size. Doing it manually is sometimes a bit fiddly.

Try posting in the Power Producer forum - you might get better responses.
