Are you enquiring about PowerDirector or Power DVD?

Quote: Is there a way to save all 10 of them somehow, and just pull them into each project so I don't have to recreate the exact same titles for each project?
Thanks

Hi Jeff
You can save your modified title as a new title which will then become a favourite. Also in the titles room you can filter all the templates so only favourites show up.
I wonder whether the SVRT problem is also being addressed?
Thanks Dafydd. I will eagerly await then put it through its paces!
Hi Paul,

The PD's disc burning module (apart from being unreliable with lots of crashes as can be seen by the number of forum posts about it) is inflexible in its menu structure. However if you compare it to other editing software of the same price range, it isn't too bad ..... just unstable.

I'll send you a PM.

Anyone else had this problem?

Yes, Paul I have had this problem. I cannot reproduce it reliably to see why it happens.

Anyone have an answer?
My answer (which may not be very helpful) is I use a dedicated DVD authoring programme.
Quote: but I also want to create AVCHD discs on DVD discs to play in my Blue Ray machine that is AVCHD compatible

And just confirming PD can produce AVCHD hybrid discs up to 8.5 Gb DL (about 1 hr of 1080i) which play on compatible players (though I can only personally vouch for PS3).

I thought I was the only one who did that sort of typo.... glad to see it is a virus!

Dafydd

No Dafydd... not a typo at all; I was referring to the ability of PD to ration the video footage so not to take up the entire screen if you change the project to widescreen.
Hi Jeff,

You have a couple of choices:

1. Once you have made your 4:3 project you can change the aspect ration of the entire project by going into the project file data and "hacking" the file as per Tony's link. Always make a copy of the project file before you do this ...just in case.

2. Render the 4:3 project and then start a new project in 16:9 format and just drop the 4:3 video file in it's entirety into the time line and render as 16:9. Depending on the aspect flags you might have to force the aspect ratio of the video by right clicking > set aspect ratio. This way of course means re-rendering with possible loss of quality but is pretty easy to do vis option 1.
Very similar here Babdi but just some comments

17) Then I save and leave it alone for a while
18 ) Re visit the project to see if I can make improvements
This is very important. You lose perspective after a while.
Quote: 21) See if if it needs one last trimming.
It always will especially if you plan to subject your family/friends to the finished product. People's attention spans seem to be reducing at a non-linear rate.

JUST IN CASE ... PD CRASHES !
What do you mean "just in case"?
Quote: Can you provide the make and model for that one? That type sounds useful for travel purposes.
Thanks

No problem James,
Optex OPM2595. Retailed for AUD120 but at a specialist camera shop whose prices are a bit expensive.
A bit cheaply made but not too bad so far.

That has to beeeeee the most seductively placed hyphen I've seen for days!!!
Hi James,

I have just invested in a new tripod recently. The centre mounting pole can be completely removed and is a telescoping mono-pod (correct use of hyphen Tony?) which is useful for walking as it is very compact and light.

I don't agree with your assumption of a frame rate causing jerky movements, it used to be the case but now we have blocks of data and the idea of an actual frame has become very blurred.

Hi Dafydd,
jerky movements with frame rate conversion is not an assumption but a reality for my set up. I am not dissagreeing that AVCHD is not a simple matter of each frame being encoded then decoded for playback. We both know of the complexities of forward and back interpolation using I, B and P slices to recreate fields/frames from data contained in the file BUT it still has an impact if the data was written with 30 slices or 25 slices in it's creation.

The two files linked (if you are interested) have been created by PD. I made a 20 sec clip of an oval motion and rendered to AVCHD at 30 fps. I placed a time code in the corner to help demonstrate.

I then used this file as a "surrogate" clip from an AVCHD camera and rendered it both to 25fps and 30 fps (the links below).

My mediaplayer outputs both 50Hz and 60Hz to my Plasma which accepts both 50Hz and 60Hz.

The 30fps clip plays smoothly using 60hz output.
The 25fps clip is jerky in both 50Hz and 60Hz output.

I maintain that it is best to use a frame rate for production which is comparable to the original frame rate of the files being used.

Video files used to display in the timeline according to frame rate and this would mean a difference of 5 frames if one imported a NTSC video into a PAL. BUT this is no longer the case, as the "block" of video imported reflects the length of clip. The bit rate per frame alters for video produced in PAL but the overall rate is the same for the whole clip even when comparing NTSC with PAL. Adrian (vn800rider) and I did a fast and dirty experiment with mp4 a little while back. Sorry I've digressed.
Dafydd

Hi Dafydd,
While this is true, if you render a 30fps clip into 25 fps there are still frame changes from the original sequence to maintain clip duration at the new frame rate which still results in noticeable jumping on panning shots. I still maintain if you shoot at 30 fps you should render at 30 fps.

Quote: Now to 1080p. I did mention in another post using a customised template based on the 720p template for mpegHD - perhaps looking this up in PD7 will do the trick for you.
Dafydd

I tried to search but couldn't find the reference. Can you please quickly explain again how you can output 1080p60, Thanks
Unfortunately PD won't produce in 1080p60 so the final product (assuming you are going to Blu-ray format) will be 1080i60 or 1080p30.

However if you set the format as NTSC the 30 fps will make the final file motion smooth with no frame dropping.

Perhaps PD8 will have full HD support as there are a few consumer level cameras appearing on the market now.
NTSC should be 29.97 (or 30fps) . Are you sure it says 25 for NTSC?
Tony

Have you accidentally logged in as another account? I have two with Cyberlink due to a hiccough in my original registration
I have read many of your post regarding your troubles (several I know!) and have not responded and left it to others.

This burn problem is common enough to be a flaw of PD.

My advice in this case would be to burn to HDD first ie "create folder" option. If the folders "burn" OK (just really compiling and rendering menus) you can then burn to the DVD using other software eg that supplied with your DVD burner .....Nero etc.

This method has been more reliable for me and also saved trashing physical discs if the burn fails in PD module.
Quote: Thank you, I'll try it, although my audio-TS folder is empty. I'll give it a go anyway. Thanks again

Don't worry that the Audio folder is empty - it often is for simple DVD compilations.
Hi Allister,

this criticism has been noted many times and is a matter of preference. What you refer to is the ability really to use the chapter function as a menu for multiple titles and I have wanted this as well. Chapters really are just points in the video to jump to quickly and not really to be played as a separate "titles".
Remember also that PD is not a complete authoring programme - it just offers a simple authoring module to make an all-in-one package.
