Thanks Bubba. I'm not the SLI type and never needed SLI or even felt the need for it.
I still don't see why SLI is needed as one GREAT card in a great system can do any game well IMO. Who needs frame rates the human eye can probably not process given the human eye has 1/30 sec shutter speed.
I have had a good PD9 day today. I adjusted my virtual memory and removed a lot of the fancy stuff from windows such as animations and a shadowed cursor etc.
I reinstalled PD9 and it seems to be responding well today.

Absolutely Bubba

I have the same feeling about ATI myself.
It's been a while maybe 15 yrs since I have had an ATI and maybe I should give them a try.
Thanks for the input. I do have an Enermax 500W PSU and I hope it will keep on going.

For some reason wave editor will not open the wav files created by Total Recorder and I believe it has something to do with the save format presently set to "windows media 9 voice".
Wave editor will open up other sound files though so I know the issue is not with wave editor.
Proving the list of option in the attachment, what setting would be suggested. There is a lot there so I really don't want to go through all the types and hope someone will know what format wave editor can better use.

I think I may like to upgrade my 8800 GT 500MB to a GTX 460 1GB.
I have a 500w PSU and a 465 may push it too much.
I see the specs for PD are 8500 and above. Obviously the 460 is above the 8500.
Is it a given that CUDA and NVIDIA hardware acceleration are fully functional with the 460 GTX and new drivers ?
Also what would be a better upgrade from the 8800gt 500mb if the 460 is only minimally better for use in power director
Should I be looking at a quadro card??
Looking to spend $150.

I see where I may be going wrong here.
I am producing a standard definition show but I am importing lots of AVCHD clips.
Like Jaime said, wouldn't it be better I convert these to another format first.
I have a good video converter and wonder what I should convert these clips into if I am approaching this wrong. I want to burn the best quality standard definition though.
The smartsound alone is bringing this documentary to life.
|
|
Thats good to know Jaime as I myself have a load of short .MTS files in the time line and to go with them Smartsound and voice overs for each clip. There is a lot os small stuff there.
Lets see what happens when I now merge these projects.
I may even produce the projects separately first and then merge them.
I may be asking too much from PD9 for what system I have.
Thinking of upgrading the 8800gt 500MB to a GTX 460 1GB if it will help.
Already have a
AMD 5600 X2
4GB RAM.

As an ex CADD Operator, I have to admit I'm a fast mouser too.
I have a feeling PD is the program to break that habit.
Could be good could be bad.
I hope it makes me more of a relaxed computer user and in turn should be easier on the carpals.
I already use and Expert Trackball and couldn't live without it.

I have noticed when my project gets big and the program starts to lag that if I click too fast or too far ahead of the program, the programs comes to a freeze or I guess crash to a stop.
Can I ask is this normal and do some of the more experienced users just wait patiently for the program to respond or give a sign that the program has finished its last command before dragging or clicking.
A nice little ready status red bar or something similar would be nice if that can prevent people like me from over clicking. I would not click or execute the next command until that ready bar was red.
Just thinking loudly

One question though.
I when I have a voice clip over my SS Clip, I can only adjust the sound for the voice clip and moving the dots (keys) lower in the SS Clip has no affect on lowering the SS Clip.
I did get it working but sometime it feels as if the setting don't take right away.
I also see how keyframes, volume editor, and the sound points relate.
|
|
Oh, so you have to be in the music editor to be able to lower the volume of a SS Clip as you end up in the SS library when placing the clip; and my instinct is to immediately highlight and mouse click to find a menu function and see video editing is greyed out.
I've been moving those dots around and editing the key frame. I'm new to the keyframe and I assume its connected in a way to the music editor. I have not gotten to that page in the manual yet.
Once again, thanks for that tutorial as it has already helped me.

I could be wrong Anja as I am new to PD. But to split clips and remove unwanted parts and combine them requires recompiling them.
If you split a clip and realize you want the clips back whole, I belive this is when the combine button will appear.
I use Elecard AVCHD Editor to do what you want done.
In PD9:
You can split up the clips, edit out the unwanted, put them to together and produce them and then re-import to your project.
I realized that PD does not process video on the fly so a split clip or video is not actually split until its goes to the produce stage.
This is how I am reading things. Please correct me if Im wrong.

Thanks for those tutorials.
Its been a steep learning curve for me going to advanced features now I'm doing a video with lots of clips and smartsound.
The tutorials are a great service.

I have experimented with this error removing changing the variable to true and false with 100% repeatability of the error.
Just thought I would provide a photo of the error. See attached.
It would be nice to get a real solution as Intel's disclaimer says setting the variable to False could cause undefined behavior. But all is running good so far.
|
|
Yes Tony.
I could not find that error anyplace and was pointing fingers at Imtoo Video Converter as there is a libiomp5md.dll involved with it.
I'll try and see what program was conflicting but probably quite an anomaly for PD9 issues.
Sometimes it good to just be satisfied a problem was corrected.
I wouldn't even know how to get and install the latest intel OpenCV.

SS is limited because its a big business for the smartsound company.
Smartsound seems proprietary as you can't do much with it unless you have a program with SS technology built into it. It is therefore specially made music that can be specially manipulated.
You pretty much get good sample and have to buy more SS quicktracks. Sometimes you can get some good package deals on SS tracks but you have to shop around and wait for specials to come.
I like the ability to re-size the tracks without having to cut them.
With sonicfire, you can overlay a video segment and work on the sounds to match that video segment and export to WAV.

I couldn't use my power tools as it kept crashing the program. I would get the message "Initializing libiomp5mt.lib, but found libiomp5md.dll already initialized". This was on my Win7 partition and would work fine on my Win-XP partition.
I think it had to do with some other program initializing libiomp5md.dll.
Well the solution was to go to WIN-7 system advance settings and the environmental variables tab.
Once in EV's, create a new variable: KMP_DUPLICATE_LIB_OK
And set the value to TRUE.
Not too sure what it all means but it's somehow working now. At first the program said the MagicMotion part was missing but since it worked well in XP believed that that wasn't the case and that the program could not access MM rather than it be missing.
I'm posting this because the search function brought up not many solutions to a "powertools crash". The search function also brings up tons of stuff and its hard to weed through the search results at times.
Lets me hope this stays fixed "keeping my fingers crossed".

Thanks Bubba and Pax. This is all good stuff. And I did consider merging separate projects and using more tracks. I like to try seperate projects.
I'll also experiment with the linked tracks and see the effects. I'm on page 30 of the user guide just 90 more to go.
Just one more problem. I just filmed a salamander cruising around the frog eggs and chomping on them and I have to find a place to put it. Looks like I'm going to do a lot of inserting by the time on done.
And the Bullfrogs haven't even come out of the mud yet.

Since, I am doing more serious work now, I am going through the user manual page by page and trying all the features.
I have started a vernal pool documentary and I have video, sound, music in place.
Unfortunately, I just caught the frogs in a breeding frenzy the last two days and actual up close footage of a spring peeper in action. I need to insert this new footage before the work I have already done.
I group all the objects that are in place and I can move them in sync with the mouse. But when I place objects in front of the work in place and expand their times, the grouped objects don't move over in sync. So when I change the duration of a newly added photo from 3 to 5 seconds, everything in that track moves over 2 seconds, but the media on the bottom tracks don't move even if grouped. I find it odd and now I have reposition everything.
Any solutions here.
Summary:
Grouped object move in syn when dragged by the hand, but don't move in sync when media placed in front of the grouped objects is expanded.
I have not gotten through the whole user guide yet but there must be way to move everything over in sync or to compensate by moving a whole track over by 2 seconds etc. or the same amount the other track got moved.
Just experimenting now:
I can drag them all to the right before inserting but if I don't inserting also un-syncs my media even if grouped.
Thanks

YOU guys are on to something here.
I have my SS Libraries of sounds on a whole separate HD in a Directory structure or folders so each folder can be backed up easily.
I need to keep my C drive as small as possible so I can keep Acronis True Image from making a giant image backup. I have always kept as little as possible on my C drives and kept the C partition as small as I can. I like keeping data on my other partitions.
Sonicfire allow you in TOOLS to specify and add search & install folders and manually add albums and its not perfect. These are the folders I have put on a separate partition. So when I insert a SS CD I can tell it to copy that CD to the directory I pick as the sound installation directory. I like to keep each directory under 4.4 GB so I can back them up to a DVD and I'm glad I did this as it eases re-installation.
One of my SS disks doesn't install automatically and I have to manually put it on. If I do this before I install PD9 I'm OK. But if I manually install a SS disk after installing PD9, I think that's where the issue is.
I'll see if I can get a hold of SS support for the exact error message.
Everything is working good so far as long as I don't manually or maybe automatically install any more SS CD's. I leaning to manual installtion as being the problem.
For some reason my CD/DVD player references the last CD/DVD that was put in it while the present CD/DVD is in it and this causes a hiccup with SS installation. As once SS aborts the copy, it wont detect that CD anymore even if I hit F5 in explorer to refresh the directory.
This then forces me to copy the CD manually. And this could be an issue with POWERDESK that I use that has replaced Windows Explorer. Powerdesk does not respond to F5 refresh of the folder tree to well.

Yes I have a feeling its on the SS side.
May have to do with a Library Pointer. I have my music split up into directories in case I need to back them up. Good chance someplace a library pointer gets corrupt and the house collapses.
I reinstalled again and all is well.
I am getting good at the re-installation. At least reinstalling is fast for both Sonicfire and PD9.
