Yes I have a feeling its on the SS side.
May have to do with a Library Pointer. I have my music split up into directories in case I need to back them up. Good chance someplace a library pointer gets corrupt and the house collapses.
I reinstalled again and all is well.
I am getting good at the re-installation. At least reinstalling is fast for both Sonicfire and PD9.

I get this error when clicking on the smartsound icon. I have worked hours trying to get rid of this error. And once again, I may have to reinstall everything.
You cannot remove your destination folder. Please select a new destination folder before deleting this one.
The error also comes up when loading any project that has smartsound tracks in it.
I hope you understand my fustration here. I'm spending hours on a projects thats only 7 minutes long so far and I'm also having to battle this.
I'm going to reinstall once more but if anyone knows this error, please elaborate.

Well Mingy, thanks for being easy on me.
The HD-3000 is a nice processor and very capable.
Thats what happens when you build a nice computer and it lasts flawless for 4 years and I have no need to stay updated on technology.
Most other people would just let the thread die, hide out or make a feeble argument and be in denial and take off.
But I am not.
I going to say I stand corrected by you here and my next computer build will be something similar to a sandy brige-I7-HD3000 myself.
Thats a nice computer he has there and I didn't bother to run hs specs. Thats good for gaminig also. Op and Mingy, I apologize for jumping the gun on onboard graphics and generalizing ignorantly
That would be a waste of a perfectly fine HD-3000 to put a card in that and would defy enven purchasing that system.
Now where is that bow down icon?

Maybe I should not jump the gun too fast. The last OB graphics I had was 4 years ago and was the latest NVDIA chipset. It was a complete failure doing any graphics intensive programs.
Any computer can run Prof CADD but when the project gets big (lots of layers, text, symbols, and 3D geometry)it will eat any any OB graphics right up at least 4 yrs ago.
I don't see any OB Graphics incoorporating the Quadro graphics and Sonic Scenerist and Avid MC do require those.
Sony Vegas really needs a dedicated card also.
My brother just got a computer from walmart and I want him to bring it over as he wants to put Fallout New Vegas on it.
That should give it a test.
So what are the graphics specs for onboard these days that makes them so good. Just point to one with 500MB RAM and a good processor equal to a 8800GT and you may have me convinced.
Does the OB graphics have its own cooling system now that is required for all good graphics boards today ?
I feel like I have slept 20 years then.
But if worse comes to worse, one can always add a graphics board if they have room and a good power supply to handle the board.

Yea I do mean Ultra not Ultimate.
I saw $70 for the Deluxe and $95 for the Ultra.
I don't know if the trial is for ultra or deluxe or both where you can try them out. I see a few have bought the deluxe only to wish they had bought the ultra. You can upgrade but upgrading from one soft. ver. to another is a hassle.
I had to keep windows 3.1 on hand all the way to windows vista.

I believe you get 128 MB of SS sounds as what was just updated on my re-installation yesterday.
I would be very articulate of what SS tracks you buy and sample them all. And make sure you can use what you buy as it gets very expensive buying tracks you have no use for.
Once you get the right tracks, you can make one heck of an enchanted sounding video.
I had better luck getting SS to work by installing PD9 after all my SS tracks where loaded and Sonicfire in place.
Do not use the SS Quicktracks plugin if using PD9; as the plugin is for PD8 and earlier.
|
|
It appears to me Deluxe shys away from anything HD. I wouldn't touch Deluxe if using anything HD.
I'd go with Ultimate and pay a little extra.
It is not clear what PD does with any particular type of HD file unless you really take a lot of time and dig into the specs.
Ultimate is not specifically 64 bit. I'm using it at 32 bit and am editing MTS files.
Make sure you get PD9 Ultimate and not PD8 Ultimate

Steve since using DOS in the days before win 3.1, I have never ever used a computer without a nice addon graphics board.
Considering I spent $250 back then on an ATI graphics board just to do 4 color graphics, the boards today are cheap.
I also remember RAM at $50 per Megabyte.
I have never had confidence in onboard graphics and OBG was always a bottle neck to me.
I think a good addon graphics board is essential for any computer that does any type of graphics or video rendering.
I would draw the line at a 8800GT 500MB minimum as that was the board that broke through a lot of graphic barriers and now that board is almost obsolete due to better less energy intensive boards.
8800 GT is a good gaming graphics board but if doing just graphics, I may recommend a NVDIA Quadro. The Quadro is required to run Sonic Scenerist a very professional video production program and is a good board for CADD also.
Onboard graphics IMO if for typing letters and doing spreadsheets and accounting.

Well I reinstalled everything.
I uninstalled the SS PD9 plugin as it was for my old PD8.
When installing PD9 it updated my SS files that was nice.
I got my old project back.
I better save an image of my HD before anything more surprises comes up.
But I like what I see so far.
Debating to use or not use shadow files.
Luckily I was able to sneek back my SS directories by pointing to them in Sonicfires Folder and Album options and canceling copy for CD when asked.
Time for a chill out with a beer on the couch after this mess. This stuff exhausts me. I want to use the program not constantly tweek it.

Hal I am eager to try that.
That's what I need very fine movements. I want this vernal pool documentary to mimic the style they did in the Life Series that was shown on the nature channels recently. And I have to cue music and hits to whats happening on the video. Its a lot of work, splicing, and positioning.
I am now reinstalling everything from scratch and will have to eat supper at the computer tonight.
Thanks for that insight and I hope it works.

ll give you the computer specs
I have a nice vanilla version of Win-7 Pro that boot ups within a minute. No Dell or spyware bloated OEM windows on this computer.
AMD 5600X2 dual core processor
4 GB ram that I know only 3.5 GB can be accessed as I am 32 bit.
500 GB HD
Nvidia 8800GT 500MB RAM with latest drivers.
CL X-FI Sound Card
I can run every program even Crysis and Fallout 3 maxed out no problem.
The only program I can not run without crashing is Power Director So far. And I feel the smartsound integration has caused most of the issues.
I'm sure if I went to the sonic fire forum and complained about the quicktracks errors appearing in PD9 they would pass the buck.
I also had the error "about me deleting some quicktracks folder also".
Ulead was doing perfect before they butchered it into their new X3 crash studio and I decided to give PD9 a try. Ulead does not handle the new Panasonic FZ-35 AVCHD .MTS files too well.
Maybe I can point a finger at Bloated Quicktime that I totally despise having on my computer and I'll look to get the latest update.
I also see PD9 left a ton of junk in my registry after uninstalling. That's not too professional.
I am ready to reinstall have a CCLEANING.

ok.
According to this picture, its the range selector "M"
http://powerdirector.helpmax.net/en/the-powerdirector-workspace/
I consider the range selector the cursor then or vert blue line.
I consider the storyboard/timline the editing workspace "L".
I may be getting story board and timeline mixed up here. Timeline = story board.
There is a vertical blue line that follows the mouse around when you click lets say on a video segment in the timeline. I'll call it the timeline cursor for lack of a better name. This line/cursor attaches to the left side of the media segment in the timeline when that segment is selected/highlighted.
Now when I move/drag a sound segment in the timeline just to the right one second ( I know its a tiny amount), the segment snaps back to the cursor line like magnet.
The grid I am speaking of is in the time line not up in the video display area.
If I move the segment far, its OK as it move far from the cursor and doesn't snap back to it so I can then position it more precisely. But I need to move it a tiny amount second by second until it precisely at the right spot to line the sound segment up with the tadpole suddenly wiggling its tail and taking off.

Well everything is blown out now even sonicfire and my music for some reason.
What should I reinstall fist: Sonicfire, Quicktracks, PD9.
|
|
Well out of the blue 8 hrs into my project I have lost all smartsound integration.
I get the message when accessing smartsound with an old and new project:
"The smartsound database cond not be opened properly. Smartsound Quicktracks 5 cannot continue at this time and will close.
Unfortunately used smartsound extensively in my project and I have lost a lot of work.
Any suggestions.
Its probably time to reinstall everything. It appears this integration is too immature at this point and not quite ready for use seriously.
I don't have a ton of time to be meesing with all these quirks.
|
|
Well now I get the message that SmartSound is no longer supported in my project and crashes when I load the project and even past revisions of the project. I'm going to have to reinstall.
I hope it works or I would have lost 8 hrs of work.
|
|
Actually I have got the grid off and sometimes that feature is greyed out.
Is there anyway to prevent that scrubber or blue vertical line what ever its called from following me around. That's whats causing the issue as the clips keep snapping to it like a magnet when I drag the clip away from it. They snap back to it if I only drag the clip a the small tiny amount I need.
|
|
I'm trying to position a small hit file in a particular position on the track to coincide with movement in a video file. It appears the media snaps to a grid that's just not fine enough for precise positioning.
Is there a way to make this grid finer so I can position more precisely ?
It would be nice if I can import the videoo file into sonicfire to position the hit but I can not do this as I have to split the video in PD9 so what will be imported into SF will be different. I don't want to reauthor the video file.

I thought I read someplace you can add music tracks but I must have read wrong.
Im trying to insert a stock SS sound file over music already there,. A little harp hit for when a tadpole takes off.
I guess I'll have to convert it to wav as they can be put on the soundtrack but this going back and forth between programs is getting very tedius.
I already have to do my voice overs in another program because PD9 is noisy.
This is one time consuming program.

I need another music track to pop in some hits and stingers from smartsound.
For some reason, I can not place SS music on a voice or sound track and only a music track.
I don't seem to be able to add another music track. The option for add music track does not come up when I click the add track Icon or function.
