Thanks for that, however, that seems a rather messy way of doing it. I'll end up with desktop presets all over the place.
Obviously its taking itself to PD, but not inserting itself on the open page immediately....not sure why.

Hi
New to ColorDirector and the round Trip editing thing.
I have successfully saved a few presets, but what I'm having trouble with is this:
When I go into CD, make my preset, save it, it turns out in the 'list' of saved presets, and then I press the 'back' button to go back to PD13. My saved preset is NOT there,...this is a little annoying as I want to use the preset on a 'set' of clips, rather than just one.
To make it appear in PD13 I have to exit the software, and turn it on again, then it will show up. This kind of defeats the purpose!
Any ideas?

Thanks guys, I'll take on all your suggestions. Much appreciated.

Uh oh. I didn't uninstall PD11 before I put on PD13 .
If I uninstall it now, do you think it will mess up? Thanks Pais.
Thanks Richmond Dan, I'll upload a smaller version of the avatar, it's probably 45,000000000 megapixels or something.
checking my version.
13.0.2123.0 is my version - I'll go and look at the forum index.
Does anyone know about my Q's in OP - 2& 3? about Photodirector linking with PD, and Color and Audiodirector access?
Thanks.

Hi all,
1. I'm a bit confused about the patches. Having JUST bought PD13 as the upgrade from PD11 download, (Love it!), I'm not sure when, if or how I download the patches. I only downloaded the program about 5 days ago.
Which, if any, patches do I need to download, ...and from the forum link? or...(other times I've notice it pop up on the workscreen in PD11).
2. Also, somewhere in a tutorial I thought I read that if you have PhotoDirector and Powerdirector, you can jump from one to the other? Say for example I'm putting stills in my movie in PD13, and decide I want whiter teeth (lol), I sort of remember reading that I could enter photodirector from somewhere on the PD13 workspace? or am I wrong?
3. I also can't find where to enter ColorDirector and Audio Director from the workspace in PD13. maybe I've got that wrong. It would be awkward having to stop, bring up the new software, import, edit, export, the import into pd13 :/
4. oh, and one last thing. I still have my PD11 on my PC. Do I need to keep it there (since I did the 'upgrade download from PD11to 13)? Are the two programs now linked, since it was an upgrade? If I uninstalled 11 would 13 cease to work?
Sorry for my bunch of questions.

Actually, I meant both. In most other photo editors there's an X off, to go to the next photo, OR (more what I meant) stop the edit and just go back to a 'normal' , like 'finish'. Maybe in this software you don't 'finish'> you just click on the next photo, then when you're done you go back to the library??
Also, I'm a bit confused about the making a duplicate thing. Does that mean every time there's an edit, there's another copy of the same photo? With the old one as well as all it's incarnations?

Hi there, I've enjoyed PowerD11 for a couple of years, converting my dad's old 1960s Std 8 film into video and editing it with PD. Now I've just bought the PD13 Ultimate package, which included PhotoDirector 5 as a bonus. Yippee!
I really wanted PhotoDirector, as I like to add slide shows of relevant 1960s photos to end of home movies, and would love to tweak and edit them.
Having NEVER used anything like this before (never used photoshop....most I ever used was Microsoft's PhotoGallery edit page), this is quite new to me. I've looked around the page and looks great, a lot is quite intuitive, but some things I just can't work out. (for example....how to 'put back' a photo that you've been working on, but want to do a different one now....seems stupid, but I just can't work it out.
I need a beginner's tutorial for PhotoDirector - preferably PhD5 but if they're all similar any will do.
I've looked on Cyberlink, but not quite 'beginner enough'. I need something that explains the workspace, and basic tools first THEN get into the unique tools.
Can you suggest a link, or someone's youtubes, or....???
With many thanks.

Hi there,
FINALLY going to upgrade from my PD11 to a suite.
I want and upgraded PD + PhotoDirector mostly, but Color director also really appeals to me.
There's a good Halloween deal going on at the moment, 25% off Power Director 13 Ultimate suite, with Photo Director 5 added as a bonus $149, but I can only see a download button, not an in box option.
I have a couple of questions.
1) What if my computer was to break down, and I needed to reinstall the software. If I only had the download version...how does that work?
2) Can you download on more than one computer (ie on my work PC and my home PC?)
3) There's some contention as to whether PD13 is worth upgrading from PD12. Maybe I should just go the previous version of Director suite with PD12 in it....but I don't know what it's called. Is it Media Suite?
I guess I'm looking for the best deal, with a PD upgrade, photodirector, etc. But am worried about a download.?
Can you offer any suggestions or explanations?
Thanks.

OK guys, that's really good. So I have:
1. In produce, I've chosen MPeg2 with the NTSC profile - 720x480/60i.
2. From what you say, I'm expecting it to be able to be present the right options in Create Disc.
Jaime-esque -is this what you mean by changing the tv format? I will remember to change it back to pal when finishe
One more question, silly as it seems....what kind of file do I need to produce for USA if I want to send it over on a usb thumb drive? Do I need to choose NTSC again? or could I just send them my produced PAL file? (dumb question sorry.)

Hi all,
Have my usual 1080 50i footage so I can make dvds. Of course I never have any trouble making PAL dvds for my Aussie family.
I have a family member in the USA who I want to make a movie for.
I'm not familiar enough with files and dvd formats....can someone help me?
I have the project that I normally make. (not sure if this is where it needs to be changed to NTSC?)
I have produced it into AVCHD, but I can produce it any way necessary.
I could also make a produced file, and NOT put it on a dvd if that is best......but I just am not sure at what stage the difference between PAL and NTSC, or whatever, occurs.
Maybe it would be better to put the produced file on a thumb drive and send that over? but do I need to make sure it's the correct format for USA then???
Help please someone. I want to send my family movie from the 1960's now digitised, over to the usa, and I'm not sure what is the best way to do it. I don't think my Uncle is particularly techno savvy, he's quite old. I'd prefer something fairly simple.
Any ideas? Thanks,
Jenny

Great Ideas Carl, thankyou.
Next time I'll have to shoot the chroma key subject on purpose. This was just a random idea....the film is from the 1960s, so no chance now of changing the background. Oh well.
I will try the photos idea though, which is a good one, and should be fun.
Thanks Carl,
Jenny

I want to know if you can make a motion pip from a piece of footage that is NOT on a green (or other single colour) screen.
For example I wondered if I could use a video of a baby, and make it walk along a title page. The original clip is NOT shot against a green screen, but in the garden.
I only have a rudimentary idea of how chroma key works, but tried a test where I used ck, produced, used ck again, produced again, about 6 times, to come up with a baby with very little background. Unfortunately the mask I used seems to be masking out my background too.
hmmm....any other ideas, or am I a bit ahead of chroma key's abilities?

Hi Dafydd,
I've had to recently uninstall and re-install my CLPD11 to see if I can prevent the freezing that's happening.
I have a great PC with tons of space memory and an updated driver. That reinstalling was the next step.
My question, with the list of patches...from 2215 to the most recent 3625,...Do I have to install each of these patches individually? or will just the last one suffice. I don't understand if each patch has just a single purpose, or it combines the previous patches as well.
So, just the latest? or all of them?

Great Responses, great information and just the sort of thing I wanted so I can make my choice.
I think I will save original files on my (many and varied) External Hard Drives, and keep only select projects as Tony does. It's what I've been doing..except I've kept ALL of them. I'll be more select with the projects.
I have a dedicated EHD for original files, another for packed projects, and another for produced movies.
I have a fourth for a 'working' EHD that I sometimes use - it's got bucket loads of photos on it, and nice backgrounds etc I found on the web, nice music...etc etc...
Of course I'm so pedantic about the original files, they have to be stored twice...
CubbyHouseFilms has an excellent point about a 'burn to folder' , I never gave that much thought. I'll do that in future when I have a movie that requires multiple burns.
Thanks Guys!

Loving my Cyberlink which is helping make my 1963 standard 8mm films into beautiful movies.
I have tons of original files. Not only my own home movies, but the original video - recording the 8mm film as it projects. This is precious, it probably won't be able to be projected again. Of course all footage is precious.
My question is - I used to ( 3 years ago) keep my original footage in a special file. A while ago you clever guys told me about exporting the project, packing the project files, which I do now every time I've finished.
Does that qualify as keeping the original footage? or is there something I don't know about the Pack Project Materials, that would make the original footage 'not as good' for some reason, as if I kept it simply in it's original state right out of the camera?
I wanted to know who of you keeps your original footage as is, and who packs the project materials...and deletes the original footage off the camera.
I can't stand to think my footage isn't safe. I MUST have it, just incase I re-do another project with it in a few years with Powerdirector 21 or something !!!
So, to simply pack project materials? or keep original footage too?
Thanks for your advise.

I am doing my yearly routine maintenance on my computer. Since the PC is quite new one of the only things I really have to do is clean up the downloads folder. It contains 99% things I've downloaded for Cyberlink.
They included:
New fonts from the net
particles
pips
titles etc all from cyberlink
photos from the net
music from the net etc
and I'm a bit confused as to what I can delete from the downloads folder and what I can't.
I trialled deleting fonts, they seem to be ok to delete since they are installed already?
The music is in my Music folder, so that should be ok to delete right?
what about all the particles etc from Cyberlink DirectorZone. What happens if I delete those? I'm not sure how to test it withouta lot of trouble.
thanks, for any help.

Barry, thanks. But I've never had problems with WMP before, just only with some cyberlink productions.
I always play all my avchd home movies and 50p on WMP, and also have played many of my cyberlink productions with no issues, but just sometimes, as is the case just now, I have a production that won't play smoothly. I'd love to know why.

I'm a bit confused about playback.
Being in the middle of my massive 'save the 1960s home movies' project, I don't want to produce a hundred hours of movie for it not to be watchable on Windows Media Player, as that is sort of the basic media player for most of the family.
When I produce, I make two copies, one is an Mpeg 2 DVD copy, and the other is H264 AVC copy. as the original clips are from my video camera at 50i, and around 15.5 mbps I'm choosing the 25i 16mbps option when producing in AVCHD.
The results are great, but when I check playback, the Mpeg 2 production plays perfectly in windows media player, but the avchd copy is choppy and jittery.
This playback problem does not occur when played back through Cyberlink Powerdirector, nor does it happen through Power DVD.
I am not able to use svrt in many of these productions as there are enhancements (such as a mask to tidy up edges of the Std 8 movie) throughout the entire thing. However, I uncheck video preview always, and have hardware accelaration still on.
Does anyone have any insights into why WMP seems to play back my AVCHD productions jittery. A little confused, it doesn't happen all the time, I wonder what I might have checked or unchecked or done to make a few jittery on WMP and others not, and why the Mpeg 2 ones are fine, where the AVCHD ones are sometimes not.
I would like to have all of my productions available to watch on WMP, its so much easier.

I'm sure I asked before, but I can't find the answer anywhere!
What is your favourite website for downloading background music for your video productions?
I'm looking for instrumental only, various genres but basically easy listening. At the moment I'm wanting 50's and 60's sounding music to go behind the vintage 8mm film transfers I've done.
I'm finding it difficult to find a trustworthy site, I've had 2 suspicious sites download odd things to my computer, antivirus etc catching them. I know about Freestockmusic.com which is quite good, but mostly a bit 'big' for little home movies.
What are your suggestions? Free. Safe. variety. Thanks!

Carl and jr - they are wonderful replies, thankyou.
You've answered a lot of my questions.
Carl - I never gave a thought as to the 'steadiness' of my camera. I had actually started the project on a card table, with the camera on a small tripod, but right on the table next to the projector. It didn't occur to me that there would be vibration.
I'll deal with that instantly. I'll mount the camera on a tripod as close to, but under the projector table.
I will also keep my transfers in H264. I thought as much, but as I don't understand files at all, I do rely on you guys to tell me!! I'm learning though.
I'm trying to get the best possible projection, which should result in the best possible image transfer. I'll let you know how it goes in a week or so with a demo clip straight out of the 1960s!
I've heard (and tried it, on my Hanimex DualMatic projector) that with a variable speed projector, the flicker is much reduced or even eliminated by adjusting the speed that the film is playing at. I successfully eliminated the flicker completely, though had to have my hand on the speed dial all of the time for fine tuning. This is on the old Hanimex, I have a new Sankyo variable speed projector and hoping it will do the same.
CARL -
As to the flicker, you will have to experiment. Setting the camera to 50 or 60 fps may reduce the flicker. If the camera has a 24 fps setting, try that
I don't quite understand this. Sorry to sound such an imbecile, but I just use my HA setting which is 1080/50i (so I can make blu rays and dvds).
JR I live in Sydney, PAL too. I don't know how to find out what speed the original film was shot in, some say 18fps some 24.
A slow down of the speed of the old Hanimex resulted in eliminating the flicker, but I still never worked out a) what the original speed was b) what speed I was playing it at (no marks on the dial.) I guess it didn't matter. But now I have a new projector (or will in a week) it may be worth finding out, but how??
I don't believe my film has sound. I think it's silent.
I learned lots of things from your responses, will get back to you with results.
