Move that audio on the music track upward to track 2. You then do not need to scroll down to see the music track for that piece of audio.
If you have, for example, many clips it's a risky thing to do it that way.

I want to remove the empty tracks in the timeline. I select remove empty tracks but they remain. Also I want to grab or select one track and move it up. In the enclosed screenshot I tried to bring up the bottom track but didn't figure it out. Thanks
You are showing the normal condition when Powerdirector starts up.
There is always Track 1, Track 2, Title Track, Music Track and Voice Track. Music and Voice are audio only Tracks.
When you put something in Track 2, Track 3 will be added automatically. PowerDirector has one blank track all the time.
Thanks for the answer. Not sure I completely follow. I put in a couple of screenshots. 1 shows how it is and 2 shows how I want it.
The other part of the question which I don't figure out is why I can't just grab the track and put it where I want? In picture 1, for example I can't grab and move the lower audio track. I can grab the wav file on the lower track and move it to one a few tracks above but not the whole track. Even then I still have two unused tracks which all I can now is minimize. It seems you're saying I can't get rid of certain empty tracks?
I just noticed that "remove track" (see attachment) is greyed out for many of these useless tracks?

I am trying to edit a long multicam timeline. There are many individual video crops to do. I have to hit "edit/video image", then "power tools","crop & Zoom",Then (in my case) "Freeform"then "OK" and then the x in the right corner so the timeline video will continue past the edited clip. Is there a way to shorten this processwithout so many steps? In my case I will nearly always want freeform aspect ratio. I went to "keyboard-Hotkeys-customize but only found the crop for images shortcut. Thanks!
Recently upgraded from PD14 to 16 with the faint hope that this would have been fixed. Power Director needs to get this fixed as this is a liability. More hotkeys/ shortcuts are needed included one from keyframe and other common editing tools. How hard could this be? No more upgrade money from me Power Director until you fix this.
Absurd that there's no shortcut possible to crop. Recently had a video with many splits and varying crops. Had to do 5 clicks before cropping every time. Also, unless I'm missing it, no ability to save crop areas as presets.

Thanks for the comments. Having a master volume slider on the left side of each audio track is much better. Also good to have an effects button there. The fewer steps one has to take to do basic tasks is helpful, especially if you only occasionally use the program. I had an audio track with many split sections in it and didn't want to have to go to each section to adjust the volumes in case I didn't get them all the same. So I just ended up rendering the whole thing and then going back and working on the audio track. It would have saved time with a track volume control, a pretty standard feature in other editing programs.

I just want to add the same thing happened to me the other day. The first video showed the wave form. Later, I added an audio track and it would only show a straight line with no wave form. The next day a wave form did show up on a second track so it seemed to be an intermittent problem.

Edit clip keyframe. Its above the timeline when you click on the little page icon. You can do all one level or vary using keyframes
This looks like progress. When you say "You can do all one level" I haven't figured that out. Like on the wave form there is a little dot at the biginning and end and if I move one the other one doesn't move, so it's more like fading rather than the overall volume. If I'm in the middle of the wave form it puts a dot there too. Thanks

In the timeline I want to increase the volume. In other words, I don't want to send it to an external editor. I click and hold the horizontal line and see the volume level change but as soon as I let go of the mouse button the volume jumps. Is there another (simple) way to just enter in the volume I want. For example now its 1.3 and I want it to be 1.9 but its hit or miss using the mouse. Thanks

Thanks for the answer. That's pretty annoying.on a number of functions, especially when trying to balance the volume on two music tracks. (It's already diffcult without any volume sliders on the tracks). I'd prefer the users have a choice.

Today I try to adjust the volume in one track. Every time I touch it the playback stops. Also true of other functions. Is there a way to make it just keep playing while I make adjustments? Thanks

This software is not Sony Vegas.
Try this: Go to Preference/Editing/ Uncheck Switch to movie mode auto… Anytime you highlight a clip, hit the spacebar and it will play to the end of the clip and return to the start of the clip.
if you do this as Tomasc suggested , split the clip at 1:30 then you can use the spacebar to play/pause and HOME key to return to 1:30
I believe that is what you want to accomplish.
Thanks for your comments. I'm not great at these video editing programs. I was getting the hang of Vegas but PD16 has some features I would like so I'm trying to switch. I generally use these programs to edit live music videos. Practices, little gigs etc. Often I want to cut some of it out but keep in time. That requires a lot of trial and error to find just the right spots to punch in and out. I had hoped to avoid having to set markers or split the track every time I try one spot. Sometimes you have to just try one , if it's wrong move it over a little, over and over. So setting a bunch or markers or splits only requires adding many steps. Hitting "home" goes back to the start of the clip not to where I started playback. I'm just asking if someone knows how to set a shortcut so it simply returns to where I started playback, which could be anywhere without splitting the clip. For example, in another program "space" does that and "enter" pauses.

Try this: Go to Preferences/Editing/ Check Return to the clip… Hit OK.
Great! Looking forward to trying that out in the next days. Thanks!
I looked at that setting but it was already checked. Is there another way to do this? Thanks

In the screenshot that you attached put a checkmark on the Object settings to expand it in the PiP Designer. There you will see the checkbox for Maintain aspect ratio.
You can also do it the way Tony already explained earlier.
At first I was looking for a box to put a checkmark in and couldn't find it. Then I clicked on "object settings" and it expanded and I saw the aspect ratio section. Thanks for your help!

Hi FrancoisT -
In PiP Designer, you can uncheck "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and stretch the clip as you wish.
Also, if you right click on the clip, make the selections shown in the attached screenshots.
Cheers - Tony
I'm not able to bring up anything like what you displayed in your screenshot. When I'm in PIP I get none of those options as I'm showing in my own screenshot. I did this some months ago but with a break can't figure it out now. Thanks

The screenshot shows that the video/audio on track 1 may have been unlinked. When selecting these, PD16 is not able to sync all instances by audio, because it sees the video as a separate instance without .... audio.
You should either link the video and audio on track 1 again or deselect the video track. In both cases the Sync by Audio appears and should work. I would assume that re-linking is your best option here because you don't want the video to be left out?!
Thanks! That was it. I had replaced the original audio with an edited one and hadn't thought to link them again. I wouldn't have been able to figure that out.

I'm trying to get used to this program after using Vegas for some years. One thing I'm having a problem with is when I'm editng in the timeline. When I hit space it pauses. What I found more useful was to go back to exactly where playback started. In other words if I moved the cursor to start at 1:30 and it played for some seconds it would go back to 1:30 when I hit space. Is there a way to do this here? Thanks

It's been some months between projects and now either I've forgotten or somethings changed. I can't find the "sync by audio" after selecting the clips. I have 3 clips each with their own audio in 3 different timelines. I do control/all and it selects them but I don't find "sync by audio" anywhere. Could someone tell me where I should see it? Thanks

sometimes i can use my bald head as a crystal ball but, nope, i can't see it. so you're telling me you have only two tabs on your camcorder properties??? well, then you're screwed! ^^
there's a way to disable all but that one is too risky...

I downloaded your mp4 file (thanks for putting it on) and see there are 3 tabs in your setting but only 2 in mine. Sometimes Windows has 2 or 3 different paths to doing things. I don't know if there's another way to get to that setting?

... Thanks for the reply. When I enter 25720 in the search box it just takes me to a page to select country?
How to prevent PD8 on XP from starting when I turn camcorder play on?
to remove CL PD8 Software from the startup menu, go to the Control Panel > Scanners and Cameras. Select the camera from the list of devices, then click Properties. Select the Events tab. From the Start this program drop-down menu, select the desired action, then click OK.
Restart the computer.

I'm archiving a bunch of old miniDV tapes.I have to use my old XP laptop because it has firewire. For some reason PD8 makes the playback stop a lot while capturing so I'm having better luck using WinDV. I still have a use for PD8 so I don't want to uninstall it. Would anyone know how to make PD8 stop starting every time I play a tape with the camcorder?
Hi I haven't had XP for a long time now so the old memory is fading, but have a look here and see if this helps http://support.en.kodak.co.uk/app/answers/detail/a_id/25720/selected/true I would have thought the procedure would be the same
EDIT: The link doesn't seem to work so go here and type 25720 in the search function http://support.en.kodak.co.uk/app/home/selected/true
Thanks for the reply. When I enter 25720 in the search box it just takes me to a page to select country?
Are you using the second address? It works fine for me.
I tried it using Chrome and Firefox and neither worked. But thanks anyhow. What's the point being made in the article?
