Warry's green line often attributed to hardware decoding in pref. He never indicated how that was set, additionally it would be decoded with his internal GPU, whatever revision he may have which plays a role.
Jeff
Whatever setting I used I always got the same result, the green line at the left of the clip after producing. I have an internal UHD 630 and an "external" GTX1070 GPU. The green line was gone when I used a different output format.

Nice problem!
There are a number of ways of achieving this. It depends a bit on what kind of line or drawing you need. If you are after a straight line, then it may be worth it while to insert a color bord in the track underneath your clip. Then change the color bord into a line, you can get to (almost) any thinness and size, and position and rotate the line anywhere on the screen.
Another method would be to draw the line precisely as you describe. And save that line (give it a name etc.)
Put the line in the track underneath the clip and then position the “cursor” to a point where the line has been completed after drawing.
Then select the clip above and set the opacity to 0% by dragging the opacity line down. What is left (in the preview screen) is the complete line. Take a snapshot on that position. (The alternative is to put the snapshot on a place where there is no clip and take a snapshot of that....)
Delete the drawing from the track and replace it with the snapshot, which can be given the required start- and end point and length.
Then open de PIP designer and set a chroma key for the (black) background and close the designer. Because the snapshot shows the result of the drawing not the drawing itself, you end up with a line that can appear and disappear at will.
I am sure that there are other ways of getting what you want, without the help of external drawing software. The methods above did not take much time to execute.
Have fun!

That's quite strange. I just tried creating and producing a 2.5 minute 9:16 video and didn't have any issues like you've seen.
You may want to open a support ticket with CL tech support from here.
Just to see how my system would behave I have taken a 16:9 clip; MP4, 640x352/30fps H.264 AVC
trimmed it to 2:30 minutes and then set the aspect ratio to 9:16.
When producing I see the following remarkable things:
- production with Fast video rendering on, takes PD to render the clip without any effects about 0:30 minutes, there is no difference when switching between internal GPU and the "external" GPU.
- production with Fast video rendering off, takes PD the clip without effects about 0:12 minutes (?)
- production with Fast video rendering on and a number of random changes to colour etc. takes about 0:18 minutes
- production with Fast video rendering off, and the same number of random changes takes about 0:30 minutes
All output files have a green line at the left of the 9:16 output video. Which line is not to be seen during displaying the clip from the timeline. The green line is there when I use the output format MP4, 480x720/25p (3Mbps); The green line is gone when using 720x1280/25p (6Mbps)
I have tried the same tests with and without OpenCL technology switch on.
No need to say: both software and drivers are all up to date, and (still) running Windows 10.
I wonder whether this is me, or other can reproduce this behavior too. If so, then it might make sense to send a note to Tech support.
One would seriously wonder what is happening under the PD hood....

OP user experience probably related to what's shown in attached pic.
Jeff
Jeff is right of course, the text field top left only accepts 31 or 32 chars, whereas the title field in the video frame can hold many more characters, which strangly enough are also repeated in the text box top left. I would assume that this is not planned behavior and should be put on the list of things to repair.

Thanks for that. Obviously we are talking about two different things. I am posting another screenshot where I use titles avaialble from the lefhand side menu (under T option). In Previous version I was not limited to 32 characters and I could use two lines if it did not fit the screen. It was simple and quick. I hope that the screenshot illustrates it.
what you show in your screenshot is precisely what I did for my screenshot. My version, I have the latest, 365, PD, does not show any limitations for the title length let alone 32 chars. (Your title has 34, correct?)
As said, maybe look at version number, settings, windows version (everything is suspicious) etc.
|
|
OK. In your first text you talk about sub titles (not in the subject line I admit). So based on that assumption we tried to explain that (in our systems) the sub title texts could be as long as 255 characters and many lines.
Your screenshot however shows that you talk about (normal) titles. This is very puzzling, becasue in principle normal title texts can be much longer. See the screen shot I have included, which only shows the amount of characters that I can fit on one line, with -I recon- the same title specifications as you use. If your PD version does not allow more than 32 characters, then there must be something else wrong.
At this stage I suggest:
- use sub titles instead for the text you want to display (Sub titles can be opened by clicking on the 3 dots left in the screen under the volume pictogram); as we explained it should be possible to insert the characters you want
- Maybe do a screen recording of how you add a title to your project, and explain whether you use any out of the ordinary settings either in PD or in your system
|
|
Apparently, the current version of PD maintains a maximum of 255 characters, including spaces and line feeds for each sub title. As StevenG writes, sub titles are usually short so a limitation to the max does make sense. I have not found any hard max chars in subtitles specs, but I did not look too hard. Recommendations are to keep the max characters per line to 40-42 and not more than 2 lines of text.
PD allows more than 2 lines of subtitle text, a new line is added by simply hit the return.
PD also allows change of the font size which can be used to make the space covered by the sub title larger or smaller.
Should you need more than 255 characters text, I assume that this will not be a real sub title like e.g. the translation of the spoken text, then I would suggest using the regular title option and maybe change the font and position such that it looks like a sub title. This may be the solution you are looking for as long as you don't want to export this text in a sub titles file, and otherwise apply sub title features.

I only use Vitascene and Andorage for very very special things, most of what you need sits in PD. I think that you want to download the content packs, even if you don't use them often, they may put you on the right creative track. And they are not too much in your way. Next what makes sense is, that you look for additional downloads when and only when you are looking for something special.

It depends a bit on how the remainder of the video is, e.g. whether the camera is moving (a lot) etc. but this is also a way of approach this:
- make a screenshot of the video clip, look a bit at what frame the background is suitable
- Open the screnshot in a photo-program like PhotoDirector and remove the unwanted persons and objects
- Put the resulting image in track 1 on the time line
- Put the video clip on track 2 on the time line
- Open the mask designer for clip 2 and mask out everthing but the dancers in the foreground
Again, if the camera moves to much it may be more difficult, but have a look at the result given the clip you have uploaded (attached)

Thanks for the additions Optodata.
I while ago I have made in My Programs all the entries but the 4 365 suite programs "hidden", so indeed these are the 4 that show in that "tab" with the option "any status". However, when I display the hidden entries (option in the top right corner), then I see a number of suites I previously obtained, which btw I think is great to have them here. AND a "Creative Design Pack Wedding Pack Wedding Pack" (precisely as listed), appears in the list of programs, hence my comment.
I acknowledge what you write about the packs of previous versions. My point is that at some stage it becomes unclear even to the more experienced CL software users, which is which and whether or not packs should be installed. Also if CL decides to changes packs, or rename or update them, I think they should prevent user systems folders being cluttered with packages, to be a bit more precise on what should and should not be installed along a current or desired version?
I wonder what will happen if a user decides to stop the 365 and continue with a (previously) bought version. How does CAM and for that matter CL in the windows folders, sort that out?
And... I should hasten to add: this is also the opportunity for CL to make previous versions of 365 programs available as an option, should the latest 365 version be buggy and the users wants to get back to a previous, working version.
The last remark (all made with good intentions to help CL to improve), looking at my CL program and data folders I would say that some sort of consistency is in order. I see (LUT and some creative) packs in the program folder; some style packs and templates in the (x86) program folders. Maybe all there because of previous versions. I think CL does a great job in recognizing templates and customized stuff from previous versions. But we see that it takes the program(s) a while to sort these things out.
And perhaps even patches, to prevent from happening that users have to separately download and replace files, as with the recent Audio issues.
(I can only hope that CL DOES read these kinds of things and puts them somewhere on their list of things to do to make the CL estate more perfect: )

I have done the same steps from your video, and everything works fine in my system.

The Application Manager got updated today.
What I like about this update is:
- The effect packages overview given more information per pack
- Next to the status Installed and Install I noticed the Update, which may be new (?)
- download and installations work fairly fast
What I dont like about this update is:
- After pressing install, one is inclined to search for and download more, it is now (even) harder to track whether a download and/or installation is ongoing and how many of these are still active. It would be good to have somewhere an overview of the general download and installation status?
- I see a number of PowerDirector content Essential packs, with and without any additional information. It is not clear whether they are essential for my (365) version, or whether I can leave them alone because they belong to older version(s) which I have (currently) not installed.
- There is also a creative design pack in the programs list.
What I would suggest is:
- add the option to give a simple list for effect packs like availble for Audio and fonts
- Make clear for the selection of tutorials and the Blog that a browser will be opened; e.g.: (online)
- for the long term customers with many versions: Make clear to which version or versions an item is applicable.
- Update the online tutorial video which is outdated.
All in all good progress.
(knowing that CL does not read forum, I have also submitted this text via the rate us & Provide suggestions. :

I agree with you, it would be good to be able to abort the analyse SVRT. I cannot help thinking: why does it take your system so long? Would it be possible to break up the project into smaller more digestable shunks? Being able to select a clip for analyses would already help, of course.
Suggest that you use the: "rate us & provide suggestions" in the file menu to forward your suggestions. (Although: I have seen many suggestions passed through from this forum, but have the impression that CL has other priorities...

The handles available in the PD20 Audio Speed tool are less flexible as one could expect also in comparison with the Audio Duration feature of AudioDirector. The PD20 manual is very brief in its explanation, but is adds:
Note: you can also hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then click and drag the edge of an audio clip on the timeline to manually change its speed to fit your required duration.
With some brief tests I did, it becomes apparent that a) you can easily adjust the audio frame by frame to e.g., the end of a clip just by dragging the end of the audio clip as described. and b) it gives a reasonable result as long as duration change is not large. Large changes will give distortion of the sound.
It would be good to report the issue as optodata suggests. Obviously this tools needs some more work.

Thanks for that SoNic67, of course you are right.
Some PAL features (and even videos) on disk do not work on NTSC vv.
I have still some DVD customers with a PAL system.
I will check and test whether PAL and NTSC settings in PD for production makes any difference. Testing... unless someone already the answers?
For now CL, my request to remember the setting used, stands!
|
|
Since long I have to change the default NTSC USA in the batch production to the (PAL) setting of my country. Each and every time I use batch production. I have asked CL to make the program remember either my settings or the settings I used last time, As does the manual production.
(Same for ColorDirector which even does not remember the manual production settings)

Warry, I documented what I thought would be desired with snapshot yrs ago here: https://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/50730.page#post_box_267348 However, one still needs to edit within the very poor implementation that CL did with snapshot and find what works as they don't appear to be too responsive for changes. The Freeze Frame behavior you quote was stated as a bug by PDM, RD, and PM, so...may change too.
Obvious work around for FX, Titles, so on, is to produce that section and then take snapshot from produced file in the media library.
Jeff
Those are excellent specs Jeff! Today, I would have the following additions:
- snapshot for all tracks (end-result) or single track and combinations of tracks
- JPG not 75% but higher like 90-99%
- type PNG still a must; others like GIF and BMP are only nice to have
- result of freeze frame should follow the snapshot specs.
The work around is noted of course.
I don’t know whether PowerDirector product managers and/or their managers are looking at the forum communications (if they take their job seriously, they should consider the forum their number one priority and main source), but the specs were readily available since version 14, and to my feeling not too difficult to implement since most of it is there already.
An addition tip to them: In a previous life when involved in product management, I kept a file called: whatever happend to.... (specs, discussions, wishes, bugs, implementations of the competition etc.)
Somewhere on PD20 forum I recently suggested: pay attention to the steadiness, and flawless operation (also requires better testing), speed, high quality of the results and it will pay off.
|
|
I think that you right Jeff. Taking a snapshot from the clip in the media room gives larger files.
And in case one would want to make a screen shot from the result of editing (FX etc.) I definitely see that the file size (if not the quality) of the snapshots taken from the timeline is different depending on the quality of the preview.
The Freeze frame however, seems to be independent from the preview quality settings and its file size is equal to that of a snapshot taken with UHD quality but often still lower than the size of a snapshot taken from the same, unedited frame from the media room.
|
|
Please check this out:
The preview display setting has influence on the size of the snapshot file (hence the quality?)
Obviously snapshots taken form the timeline....
I have used the PD sample clip Skateboard 02 for this test.
For JPG files is see:
1) The size of High preview and HD preview are the same
2) the size of the full HD is lower
3) the size of the UDH is more than 2x larger the size of 1)
for PNG files applies (my tests)
1) the size of High preview, HD and FHD are the same
2) the size of UHD is 3x larger than the others.
It is not possible to set set the preview quaility for clips in the media room.
However, the size of snapshot in jpg files taken from the (same) clip) in the media room and on the timeline are about the same, but still smaller than the once taken from the time line with UHD.
Given the way JPG and PNG files are build I am sure that the results might differ for clips of another content.
My conclusion would be for now, and only based on the size of the files: Take a snapshot from the time line with the preview setting to UHD.
Other conclusion could be, that the way PD takes snapshots differs and depends on settings. Would it not be a good idea that PD always takes the highest possible quality settings for any and all shapshots?
(I will share that suggestion with CL)
I am looking forward to see other results.

The program 'knows' whether you have done some editing or made changes when you press the X and thus askes whether you want want to save that work or not. When you say save, it will either ask you the name of the project to be saved, or uses the name that has already been given previously....
You will notice at the top in the middle the project name and an * appears when something has changed that has not been saved.
When you make a New project, the time line willl be cleared (PD may ask you to save what has not been saved...) and when you open a project and thus load it, PD will ask you whether or not to add to what you already have in the media room and/or the time line should either not be empty. So to your question, NO! You don't have to clear anything, even so, if you do clear the time line, then THAT will be saved in the project: a cleared timeline, and I guess that is precisely what you don't want....
have fun.

Your question makes me think that you might confuse video files and project files.
you start with a video file to input that into the media room, and then I assume you move this file to tHe timeline for editing work?
If you are done editing, it is good to save the editing work by saving it as a project. Once you have saved the project, you can open the project again, e.g. next day after you have opened PD. All the editing into the time line you did before saving the project, is available again upon the opening of the project.
Mind you, the original video file is still untouched, nothing has change in there, PD has kept your editing activities separately and stores all those typically in the project file.
Only after you have produced a new video file, using PD production you have (in a new file) the result of all your editing. THIS video file can be shared with others e.g. on DVD or online, or .... as I assume you may be doing.... for the next editing you still may want to do on the video. In that case the new produced video file is again IMPORTED into the media room, and moved to the timeline lie for editing, likely after you have started a new project or have cleared the timeline as required.....
so the project file with all the savings is only for the next time you want to edit the project. It contains editing instructions that only PD understands. Distributing the project file (.PDS) does not make sense to the happy viewer of your editing results.
Hope that the difference between importing a clip and opening a project file is clear and helps you as an answer to your question?
Suggest that have a look at the many tutorials on Powerdirector on YouTube, which may strengthen the explanation above. There are some very good tutors out there!!
