Hi

This sounds like the same sort of problem I had back in August with my Power DVD 12 when trying to play Kong:Skull Island.

Here's my thread about it.

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/62958.page

For me it ended up being a simple fix that another poster suggested after having the same problem with their Power DVD 15.

I updated with the latest patch provided by Cyberlink which I hadn't done up till that point. And that resolved this issue.

So,if you haven't done the most recent patch update, that may be you're problem like it was for me for Power DVD 12 and the other person with Power DVD 15.It was the same sort of patch for the corrsponding Power DVD

Bringing over my last two posts from the above thread.

Quote I solved my problem by updating my Bluray player's firmware (probably not necessary), then updating Cyberlink PowerDVD 15 with a patch from this page:

2016-09-25 Updates PowerDVD 15 to build 3305

Well,Like I said,I have Power DVD 12.I haven't done the last patch that was put out this past November.

2016-11-28

Updates to PowerDVD 12 Ultra build 7107 Install this patch update to enhance the program's compatibility. Note: This update is only for the retail and online purchased versions of PowerDVD 9 Ultra, PowerDVD 10 Ultra, PowerDVD 11 Ultra, and PowerDVD 12 Ultra. It will update them to PowerDVD 12 build 7107.

Resolves playback issues for Blu-ray movies "Allegiant" and "Super Troopers".Improves playback compatibility of newly released Blu-ray movies.Minor bug fixes.

Your Power DVD 15 patch looks like it resolves the same things as this Power DVD 12 patch.

I assume firmware update and this patch are the same thing. The Power DVD 12 update is a firmware update? All my other newest releases including The Lego Batman Movie which came out a few weeks ago and like Kong:Skull Island is a Warner Bros. release, load and play with no issue.

When I bring up the player,in the update section there is this message too.

A software update is now available.Important! You are missing out on a smoother, faster experance

I assume this is about that same patch?

In the next day or so,I'll try the patch update and hopfully that resolves this.I haven't had a problem with a new release until Kong:Skull Island, every other blu ray including the most recent releases until Kong;Skull Island load fine.

Just wanted to give the heads up that I did the software update/patch for Power DVD 12 provided by Cyberlink from November today.I held off until now but I have new releases coming starting this Tuesday. One of which is a Warner Bros. release(DC Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 and Alien Covenant). So I figure now was the time to do this update.

Great news,The Kong Skull Island Blu ray now plays fine.

So the update was the answer.

I haven't had a problem playing any new releases since.

I suggest going over here to make sure you're up to date on the latest patch.

I just picked up Kong Skull Island and I'm having problems playing the disk in my BD drive.
Cyberlink Power DVD 12.

When it starts to load,a message box pops up in a white box.

AACS License Key Update

An important component of Cyberlink PowerDVD requires periodic updates.New movies may not play back if the component is not updated now.

Would like to update now?

Yes No

I've had a box like this pop up every once in a while.Maybe once or twice a year.I always hit the Yes button and after a second or two,I assume the update is complete sincee the movie than loads like normal and always loads and plays like normal.I only have to do the update that one time and it doesn't pop up again in the near future.Like I said,it's usually once or twice a year.I think last time was late 2016 or very early this year(I don't remember what movie)

But on Kong:Skull Island, when I hit thr YES button to update,I get a second box message after a few seconds.

Information Player application update

Update complete

Okay

But when I hit the Okay button.the movie doesn't load.Power DVD just goes to its home image(or whatever its atandard thing is called when a disk is stopped or not loaded in the player)When I try to start the movie again,Either hit the resume or restart button, the loading blu ray disk box starts but then quickly, the same update message box pops up.

New movies may not play back if the component is not updated now.

Would like to update now?

Yes No

Same when I remove the disk and reload it.The movie won't load,it keeps poping up the same update request.

Would like to update now?

Yes No

And I keep hitting Yes and getting this.

Player application update

Okay

But the movie still won't load.Again, normally when I have this,I don't even get a message box that the update is complete. The movie just starts loading after a few seconds. Now I'm getting this each time....

Player application update

Update complete

Okay

...and the movie won't finish loading.I checked the disk on on my regular blu ray player and it loaded fine and plays.I also re-tested the last Warner Bros. release I got which was The Lego Batman Movie and it still loads like normal with no message to update.

What should I do?

Contact Cyberlnk?

Now,I should mention back in November,Cyberlink put out a update for Power DVD 12.On the site, it says.

2016-11-28

I didn't update because there was no mention of,Supports for the latest Blu-ray movies. And I haven't had any problems until right now with Kong Skull Island(in the past ,FOX releases required updates). So what should I do?Should I go back and exchange the blu ray for another copy(again,it plays fine on my regular Blu ray player and all my other blu rays are playing fine on on BD drive) or is it more likely the bd drive is the issue? Should I do the November 2016 update

I should also mention that this is the Kong Skull Island Target disk with the extra special feature on it

ETA

I went back to Target and did an exxhange and the new copy has the same problem.
Hi

I'm not the best with computers and this sort of stuff. But earlier this year,my father's computer stopped playing DVDs.You put a disk in and the Power DVD would not come up and all you would here in the computer is like a clicking and whirling sound like the disk was spinning. You could bring up the Powwer DVD manually but it still wouldn't play the disk.

We took it into the Geek Squad and it turned out his Optical drive had gone bad and had to be replaced. The computer was still under warranty so it didn't cost anything and that fixed the problem.

Like I said,I'm not good with computers but your mention of it just spinning in the driver sounds a little like what happened with my father's computer. So maybe you might want to have it looked at at least to rule out a optical drive problem.
Thanks for the answers. It's reaqlly appreciated.

1. Should be OK if you have the original disc and the upgrade EXE you downloaded. If the product (CD) key does not work for some reason, just contact support with all your purchase information and they should easily give you an updated one. Contact:

https://membership.cyberlink.com/support/service/technical-support.do

Since it would be an installation issue, you could call the free line list at below link.

http://www.cyberlink.com/support/faq-content.do?id=15974

Yep,I have original Power DVD 8 disk and my activation(CD) key for Power DVD 12.I have it printed out which I'll give to the Geek Squad to install in the new computer and it is registered here as well.I just checked in the members area in the Product Management Section under my Digital Copy. The (CD) key is there as well which is good.As is my older stuff like Power DVD 8 in the archives.

So no problems there if it becomes necessary.Hopfully it doesn't

2. Yes, but just the latest one, not all of them.

So just update and redownload the last patch I installed. The last patch I installed was Updates PowerDVD 12 to build 2428
that came out on 2013-02-21.That was for the problem a Windows Update caused everyone. Before that I updated with the patch put out on 2012-10-11 for the Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter/playing latest FOX titles issue.I see that it also says Supports Windows 8(a non issue for me at the time since I was on Windows Vista)

I actually did not download the very last patch that came out which was on 2013-03-18.The Updates PowerDVD 12 to build 2625 .I don't use you tube on Power DVD 12 so didn't even know that came out since it's a feature I don't use.Had no reason to go look until now.lol

So should I update to that one or the actual last patch I downloaded which was the Updates PowerDVD 12 to build 2428
that came out on 2013-02-21?

3. I can't comment on your BD disc drive, but PowerDVD 12 should work fine. Support for Windows 8 was added last year

Thanks for letting me know.

5. I can't comment on 8.1. Maybe other users here on this forum can comment if the 8.1 upgrade causes problems. (I have Windows 7). But if there are issues, I am sure a patch update would eventually be provided as was for version 13.

So far, there has been no mention on this forum about problems with using Power DVD 12 on Windows 8.1 unlike on the Power DVD 13 forum where several people had problems and Cyberlink put out a patch.

Is it possible that there were only issues with Power DVD 13 on Windows 8.1 and not Power DVD 12 which is the older product? That's what I'm assuming at this point since there's been no mentions in this subforum.

I'll ask when I buy the computer and have the guys program/set it up if it's even worth upgrading to Windows 8.1.If they say sticking with Windows 8 is fine, then this will be moot.I was just thinking since it's brand new computer I should go with the latest Windows. But if it is more of a hassel/buggy/causes problems maybe I should just stick with what it comes with which is Windows 8.That's a big jump for me anyway since my current desktop is Windows Vista although my laptop is Windows 7.

Thanks for the answers again. They did help and answered a few of my concerns.I'm planning to buy the new computer tomorrow actually.
Hi

I actually started a thread here the other day since I'm getting a new computer and am worried about transfering my BD drive which came with Power DVD 8 and then I upgraded to Power DVD 12 last year when it came out to the new computer.I'll be going also from Windows Vista(Windows 7 came out a month after I bought my current computer) to Windows 8.

Here's the link to my thread where I go into detail about what I'm concerned about. For example.Should I immediately upgrade to Windows 8.1 and if I do will there be a problem with Power DVD 12? There was one with the people who have Power DVD 13 and Cyberlink provided a patch the other day to fix the issue.Since they did not provide one for Power DVD 12 and nobody reported problems with watching Blu Rays with Power DVD 12 on Windows 8.1,is it safe to assume that the issue requiring a patch fix was confined to Power DVD 13?Should I just stick to Windows 8?Again it's a desktop going to another desktop but I'm going from Windows Vista to Windwos 8(My laptop I'm currently using has Windows 7).

That's just one of the questions I had in the below link.

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/30572.page

I'm not very good with Tech and computers so I'm really am nervous about getting this set up.But your problem does worry me that I could run into the same issue.I've never transfered a BD drive from one computer to another before. It's my first time doing something like this. The Geek Squad are one actually doing the work once I buy the new computer but this is just another concern/question I have added to what I posted about in my thread.

I'm about to get a new computer. My current computer is five years old and using Windows Vista(I got it a month before Windows 7 came out).Eight capacitors have blown on the mother board and one is leaking fluid. The computer is five years old and would cost more to fix then just buy a new one.My current computer is a HP Pavillion Elite m9500y PC.The new computer I'm looking at getting is a HP ENVY 700 Desktop-12GB Memory-2TB Hard drive. The salesmen says this is very similar to my current computer but even more powerful.

My question is about my BD drive.I had my BD drive installed in late 2010(the computer came with a DVD drive). It came with Cyberlink Power DVD 8.That worked fine for a while until more and more BD's wouldn't play due to the security changes the studios made and Cyberlink not providing anymore updates for Power DVDs older then 10.I updated to Power DVD 12 as soon as it came out last year(Jan 2012).I was about to update to Power DVD 11 but saw that 12 was coming out in a few weeks so decided to wait and update to the latest which was 12 at the time.

I've been very happy with it and have updated the patches as needed like around the time time FOX released Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter for example.I'm all up to date on the latest Power DVD 12 patches.

The Geek Squad(who I deal with) said that they can remove my BD drive from my old computer and put it into my new one. They told me just bring them the disk that came with the BD drive which was Cyberlink Power DVD 8 AND the Serial Number/Activation Key that I received when I bought Power DVD 12 and upgraded online(which I do have).

I have a couple questions.

1)If I give them what they request then there should be no problem transferring my BD drive and Power DVD 12 to the new computer?

2)Do I have to re-install the patches that were provided over the time for Power DVD 12 like to play FOX movies such as Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter or will those updates already be included when my BD drive/PowerDVD 12 is transferred to the new computer since I already did those updates to the drive when they came out?

3)Like I said,my current computer is Windows Vista. The new computer is Windows 8.Will I have problems transferring my BD drive and Power DVD over and having it work on Windows 8?

5)Windows 8.1 just came out.I don't know if they will recommend updating to that but if I did immediately upgrade to Windows 8.1.Will there be problems using my BD drive and power DVD 12 with it?The reason I ask is because I see people in the Power DVD 13 board saying there's been problems with Windows 8.1 and Power DVD 13.And I see Cyberlink just put out a patch for Power DVD 13 on October 30th to resolve the Windwos 8.1 issue.

But I don't see any mention in this board about anybody having problems using Power DVD 12 with Windows 8.1 and Cyberlink didn't put out a patch for Power DVD 12 and Windows 8.1.So can I assume there is no issues with using Power DVD 12 on Windows 8.1 like there seems to be with Power DVD 13 since there been no mention of it on this board? Is it safe to update to Windows 8.1 and not have hassles with my BD drive playing movies with Power DVD 12 or should I stick to Windows 8 for now when I get the new computer?

I really don't want to have to update to Power DVD 13 and just want to be able to play Blu Rays on my new computer with Power DVD 12 without issue. If updating to Windows 8.1 will be a problem with Power DVD 12,I'd like to know now before I buy the new computer and have the Geeks squad start programming it.
Boy,I'm glad I checked this thread.I was broswing this morning and saw this and the problems everyone was having but that a patch has been posted that fixed it.The last time I used my Power DVD player was last week with no problem when I picked up Argo.

But after seeing all the posts here,I decided to test my player to see if this same problem had showed up in the last few days and lo and behold,it had.

I tried both my Skyfall and Titanic Blu rays and got the,"PowerDVD can't access to the storage unit..."
then
"PowerDVD can't run because some components are corrupted... uninstall and reinstall PowerDVD...error code
"thing.

But I just installed the v2428 patch and that fixed the problem for me as well. Both Skyfall and Titanic are working.

So I send out my thanks as well to CyberLink-Michael.

Again,I'm glad I checked the board this morning.I wouldn't of even known there was a problem(and a solution patch already) until I tried to play a disk eventually.
Quoting myself from two weeks ago.

Quick question. As I mentioned before.Prometheus was already working in my BD drive.Should I install the new update patch even though the disks are already working or should I wait until Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter, another FOX title comes out in two weeks and see if that works too before dowloading the patch?

I'm more inclined to wait to see if my Prometheus disks working was a fluke and try Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter in two weeks when it comes out and I get it.Sort of the,If it ain't broke, don't fix it idea.If my Prometheus disks which I checked twice are working without the patch than why download something I don't need at this point.I figure if there is a problem with the Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter Blu Ray,I can always download the patch at that point.

Well,I just bought Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter. It's a FOX title.I had none of the issues with Prometheus two weeks ago everyone else had and didn't need to download the patch. But Abraham Lincoln won't play.Keep in mind that we're talking the 2D, copy, not 3D(I don't have a 3D drive or 3D T.V. yet).I don't get a red warning screen. It loads up but won't play.I get the standard Power DVD 12 main screen,no movie. But it plays fine on my Blu Ray player at my T.V.No problem there.Just the BD drive.

So I assume that I need to now download the Power DVD 12 patch that was put out two weeks ago since it covers all future FOX titles in the near future?I didn't need it for Prometheus(and I tested,it still plays on the drive) but I'll need the patch fro FOX titles after that starting with Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter?

The full model of mine is LG BH10LS30.I think mine is older than yours too.I mean I don't know if that matters since mine is updated to Power DVD 12.

Like I said I tried my Prometheus 2D disk and bonus features disk twice in the BD drive and it worked just fine both times. And it worked on my Sony 3D Blu Ray player for my T.V.

I feel bad that so many are having trouble while mine is working for some reason.I remember how fustrating it was last year when I was having the same thing happen with X-Men First Class and than all new FOX Blu Rays and eventually it expanded to other new studios films. And Cyberlink decided to stop providing patches for Power DVD's below Power DVD 10.Basically forcing people to pay for a newer Power DVD.So with Power DVD 8,I was out of luck unless I bought the update to Power DVD 11 at the time.Eventually it reach the point where I couldn't even go back and play my old blu rays in the BD drive. When I got Paranormal Activity 3 and that said I needed to update my software and than I tried to go back and play films that did work and now wouldn't(my computer guy speculated that when I put Paranormal 3 in my drive,it read I was using the older Power DVD 8 software and it sort of put a lockdown on my drive to prevent me from playing any Blu Ray's and force me to update)I finally grudgenly updated to Power DVD 12(and bought a new monitor because I didn't have HD one and Power DVD 11-12 requires it) and haven't had any problems since.

Ironically the very day I decided to give in and update to Power DVD 11,Power DVD 12 came out.So I went with Power DVD 12 since I figured as the newest release,Cyberlink would support it longer.I wouldn't have to worry about them deciding to stop providing patches if needed on the newest product.I was scared if I went with Power DVD 10 or 11,I would run into the same sitiuation where they would stop supplying patches for the older products in order to force you to buy their newest. So I figured I would just go with the newest right off the bat and hope there wouldn't be a Power DVD 13 or 14 right away.

So I know how annoying this is.And while I don't want to jinks myself, I am really curious why Promethus is working on my drive.

I noticed this always starts with FOX Blu Rays. This year it's Prometheus.Last year it was the Star Wars set and X-Men First Class. And I know people had the same problem with Avatar when that first came out.

So while Promethus is working for me,it does make me nervous in two weeks when I buy Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter which is another FOX title. Will it say I need to update even if Prometheus didn't?

I swear this is the one thing I HATE about Blu Ray.Thess firmware/patch requirements.I never had these issues ever come up with DVD.

Quote: Hmm,that's strange.I was expecting/dreading a problem with mine based off the comments in the UK thread and was happly surprised when my disks played in my BD drive and T.V. blu ray player both.I was really expecting it not to work on my computer since that's with the BD Power DVD 12.I even checked it on my Sony 3D Blu Ray player first on the T.V. before I tried it on my computer because I was expecting the Red Screen saying I needed a update. But it loaded fine,The FOX intro and FBI Piracy warning and the menu came up and I used the scene select to jump to the end credits of the film just to make sure the movie itself played and it did.The bonus disk loaded fine too.

I thought maybe it could be a region problem or just the 3D disk but you guys are having the same issues on all the disks in the set in the U.S.

I'm not looking a gift horse in the mouth but I wonder why it works for me when others are having problems.

I just check the 2D copy and bonus disk again on my BD drive and it still works.Loaded up fine and gave the option to continue where I left off or start the disk over.I started both over and no problems.Played the beginning of the film and on the bonus disk loaded up a and watched the teaser trailer.

What company blu-ray player are you using Sir?

It's a LG BH10 BD drive.I updated from Power DVD 8 which came with it to Power DVD 12 at the beginning of the year.I did the update a few days after Power DVD 12 came out.

I posted this in the U.K. thread but I'm in the U.S. with the U.S. version.

I picked up Prometheus this morning and had no problems playing it in my Power DVD 12 on my BD drive. Both the 2D Blu Ray and bonus disk played fine.I don't have a 3D setup for my computer or a 3D T.V. yet so i can't check the 3D copy.

The 2D disk and bonus disk also played fine on my Sony 3D blu ray player for my t.v.

So is this a problem then only with the 3D disks?
Quick question.

I'm in the U.S. and Prometheus comes out tomorrow over here.I was planning to pick up a copy tomorrow.I'm buying the 3D set but will only be playing the 2D copy on my computer's BD drive.I don't have a 3D setup yet but will still be getting the 3D set for the extra special features

I wanted to find out.Everyone having problems with their disks. Is it only with disks outside the U.S.?Or will this be the same problem for region 1 disks too?

Last year,I ran into that problem with X-Men First Class, than eventually every FOX new title and than finally every title from every studio.I was than forced to upgrade from Power DVD 8 to Power DVD 12 and haven't had a problem playing Blu Ray's on my computer since.I'm just hoping for not another headach like that to be starting up.

ETA

I picked up Prometheus this morning and had no problems playing it in my Power DVD 12 on my BD drive. Both the 2D Blu Ray and bonus disk played fine.Like I said,I don't have a 3D setup for my computer or a 3D T.V. yet so i can't check the 3D copy.

That sounds like the same thing that happened to me.Power DVD 8 won't play new Blu Rays now due to change in Security.Cyberlink won't provide patches anymore for Power DVD 8-9.They want you to upgrade and buy a newer one.

However the Power DVD 8 was still playing older Blu Rays from before Fall 2011 until two weeks ago with me.Suddenly it stopped playing all Blu Rays and I started getting this like with the newer disks.

You must update Cyberlink PowerDVD to continue playback of this content"
and after clicking "Yes" to that, it claims:
"Player Application update / Update complete."
and after clicking "OK" to that, nothing happens."

"Clicking the Play button at this point returns the "you must update Cyberlink ..." message and we have an endless loop."

Now no Blu Ray's will play and asks for that update.I talked to two computer guys they seem to think/indicate that new software was added that scanned yours and mine computer and saw we're using a older player and basically put a lock down on our Power DVD 8 so it can't play any disks unless you upgrade.Basically, they are forcing you to upgrade now.

So I ended up buying the brand new Power DVD 12.The player itself works for me.The only problem is I still can't play any of my Blu Ray disks(I can play DVD's on it though).I now need to go out and by a new monitor *sigh* because the one I have from 2002 doesn't have HDCP.

I double checked with CyberLink BD & 3D Advisor and the only thing I'm missing is thst HDCP.

So within the next month I'm going to buy a new HD monitor with HDCP and hopfully I'll be able to play all my Blue Ray's on my computer. *fingers crossed*

But it sounds like what's happening with your Power DVD 8 happened with mine too.Unfortuantly, there's probably nothing you'll be able to do other then to upgrade to Power DVD 10,11 or 12 Ultra. And you'll need a HD monitor that supports HDCP too.

If it won't install, get your computer guy to use 7-Zip or what ever he wants to unpack the install folder. Ounce the file is unpacked click on the folder (sp54746) and look for the SetUp Application file of 310 KB to begin the installation. (10th one from the bottom)

Thanks
Quote: Power DVD12 is their latest and greatest, it is supposed to play everything, install their trial and find out, that's the only way to be sure and that is why they have a trial.

I am just little confused about your post, I know you have DVD8, but it sounds like you have a paid for Power DVD10, is this true ?

No,I've never had Power DVD 10.Just Power DVD 8.

When my computer guy comes out on Tuesday,I'll have him try the trial and see if it works with new and older disks. If it does,I can always buy it right there.

We tried the Power DVD 11 trial in September. It worked up until a point. We switch my monitor to HD and it looked like Power DVD 11 worked somewhat.I got the player to come up and it it ran comercials but when I tried to play a brand new Blue Ray(Priest),it said I needed to buy the Power DVD 11 in order to play the movie and get the full benefits of the Player. So I guess it was compatable but it wouldn't let me test any disks and make sure they worked. It said I had to buy the player to do that.

My computer guy said that's on the underhanded side and said I should just switch back to Power DVD 8 and play my newer disks on the T.V.(the truth is I watch more films on my computer though then the T.V. which is why a BD is so important to me.).So that's what we did.Reinstalled Power DVD 8 and switched my monitor back to analog.

So I'll try the trial Power DVD 12 first but will it let me even test any Blu Rays or just demand I buy it before it will allow disks to play?

If you have an HP computer Power DVD10 is free for HP owners, I can give you the link.

I didn't know that.I do have a HP computer. It's a desktop,I bought it in summer 2009.My monitor is older. It's from my 2002 Dell.I wonder if it's worth it at this pont thought to go from Power DVD 8 to Power DVD or just upgrade and buy the newest one,Power DVD 12?

I mean,in theory,Cyberlink should support their newest offer for the next couple years right?I mean,it won't be like where they won't provide a patch to fix security issues that come up when the studios decided to changer their copyright protection like what has happened withn Power DVD 8 and 9?

What are the odds that 8 to 12 months from now,Cyberlink won't decide to stop supporting Power DVD 10?If I go with Power DVD 12,then that's the newest and should be good for a longer period of time.

At any rate,I would be glad to see that link though and check it out.

I have an old copy of Power8 and 10, I also get the same update messages. I just close the box by clicking on the "X" in the upper right hand corner and I then can play my movie. Have you tried that ?

Turn your WiFi off before playing a movie and close the update message by clicking on the "X" as described above.

I believe that Cybelink puts these messages out there to get you to buy their newer versions, but I have no proof of this

I will reinstall Power8 on one of my machines, try one of your movies and see if it will play.

I'll report back later.

Thanks for trying to help.
Hi,I'm new here.I'm not very good with computer tech so I'm feeling dumb asking this.

I bought a LG BH10 Blu Ray drive for my computer in late 2010.It came with Power DVD 8.Since getting it,I've had to do one provided patch from Cyberlink due to a security change on FOX titles like the Avatar 3 disk. That wored fine in fixing that and other FOX titles coming out at that time.As most know, the security on the Blu Rays changed yet again in the summer and most Blu Rays wouldn't play now from many studios.Fox again was the first I noticed this with on the X-Men First Class Blu Ray.Over time more Blu Rays from different studios would have this this problem(Lions Gate,Sony.Universal and the latest,Warner Bros. starting with The Harry Pottereathly Hallows Part 2 Blu Ray) Usually I would get this.

"You must update Cyberlink PowerDVD to continue playback of this content"
and after clicking "Yes" to that, it claims:
"Player Application update / Update complete."
and after clicking "OK" to that, nothing happens."

"Clicking the Play button at this point returns the "you must update Cyberlink ..." message and we have an endless loop."

or a red screen on X-Men First Class saying....

"Warning

Your Blu-Ray player requires an update in order to play this disk. The manufacturer of your Blu-Ray player recommends that you go to this website and follow the manufacturers instructions to update your blu-ray player.http://cyberlink.com/BDUpdate."

Cyberlink as we know was refusing to put out a patch for Power DVD''s pre Power DVD 10 to fix this.Again,I have Power DVD 8.

At the time,I wasn't prepared to upgrade to Power DVD 11 for three reasons.

1)My older Blu Rays(pre late 2011) still played on my BD drive.

2)I have a Sony Blu Ray Player for the T.V. and can watch the newer ones there.

3)I'm very bad with Tech.I have to bring a computer guy out for a lot of this stuff.Power DVD 11 needs a HD monitor and my monitor is older. My computer guy checked and said that my monitor is HD ready. He said it just needs a plug in which he provided and all I have to do is hit the button on the bottom of the monitor and it will switch from anolog to HD.He tested it and showed me the switch and pointed out that the picture quality improved. We swtiched it back to analog though since the Power DVD 8 wouldn't work on HD.

So I was leary of upgrading and was thinking of waiting until the spring when my computer guy came to try Power DVD 11.However something changed last week.

Slowly each studios new Blu Ray releases have stopped working on the drive due to needing the upgrade. The last studio that still worked was Paramount Blu Rays.Last week I bought Paranormal Activity 3 and tried it.It didn't work and like all the other new Blu Rays is demanding that upgrade. So I figured that's it,no new studios new releases will work now.

Later that night though,I ran into a BIG problem.I put in a older release that has always worked and now that dosen't work either. Now NONE of my Blu Rays work on the BD drive.I've been watching the Alien Anthology for weeks from before Christmas.I've watched all six disk on my BD drive with Power DVD 8.As of last Tuesday night,NONE of them work now and are demanding I update.

All my older Blu Rays are now getting that message like the newer ones.

I've wondered if a new code just went out in the last few days and that's why my older titles are suddenly no longer working? When I tried to play the new disk,"Paranormal Activity 3" did that imprint a code in the Power DVD 8 that now prevents ALL Blu Rays from not working unless updated to Power DVD 11,not just the newer releases?

And if I did upgrade to Power DVD 11,would that correct the problem with all my Blu Rays, not just the newer releases, but the old ones that suddenly stopped working Tuesday night?

I've been in contact with Cyberlink support team without much help talking about video cards and asking for this or that(in the fall I had to have my computer guy generate the DxDiag file for me and i don't know how to take screenshots either). And this stuff is so beyond me.I called out my tech guy to come next Tuesday to update my BD drive with Power DVD 11 and make sure it works hoping this will resolve my problem with the older Blu Rays and let me play the new ones.Cyberlink support in the end seems to think this will.

However, now I see Power DVD 12 just came out.And I'm not sure what to do.Should I upgrade to Power DVD 11 or Power DVD 12?And can I upgrade from Power DVD 8 to Power DVD 12 easily enough?Should this play the newer Blu Rays and resolve my new problem with my older Blu Rays?Am I setting myself up for new headaches if I upgrade to Power DVD 12 from Power DVD 8?
