Question About Power DVD 12 & Windows 8.1

I'm about to get a new computer.My current computer is five years old and using Windows Vista(I got it a month before Windows 7 came out).Eight capacitors have blown on the mother board and one is leaking fluid.The computer is five years old and would cost more to fix then just buy a new one.My current computer is a HP Pavillion Elite m9500y PC.The new computer I'm looking at getting is a HP ENVY 700 Desktop-12GB Memory-2TB Hard drive.The salesmen says this is very similar to my current computer but even more powerful.

My question is about my BD drive.I had my BD drive installed in late 2010(the computer came with a DVD drive).It came with Cyberlink Power DVD 8.That worked fine for a while until more and more BD's wouldn't play due to the security changes the studios made and Cyberlink not providing anymore updates for Power DVDs older then 10.I updated to Power DVD 12 as soon as it came out last year(Jan 2012).I was about to update to Power DVD 11 but saw that 12 was coming out in a few weeks so decided to wait and update to the latest which was 12 at the time.

I've been very happy with it and have updated the patches as needed like around the time time FOX released Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter for example.I'm all up to date on the latest Power DVD 12 patches.

The Geek Squad(who I deal with) said that they can remove my BD drive from my old computer and put it into my new one.They told me just bring them the disk that came with the BD drive which was Cyberlink Power DVD 8 AND the Serial Number/Activation Key that I received when I bought Power DVD 12 and upgraded online(which I do have).

I have a couple questions.

1)If I give them what they request then there should be no problem transferring my BD drive and Power DVD 12 to the new computer?

2)Do I have to re-install the patches that were provided over the time for Power DVD 12 like to play FOX movies such as Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter or will those updates already be included when my BD drive/PowerDVD 12 is transferred to the new computer since I already did those updates to the drive when they came out?

3)Like I said,my current computer is Windows Vista.The new computer is Windows 8.Will I have problems transferring my BD drive and Power DVD over and having it work on Windows 8?

5)Windows 8.1 just came out.I don't know if they will recommend updating to that but if I did immediately upgrade to Windows 8.1.Will there be problems using my BD drive and power DVD 12 with it?The reason I ask is because I see people in the Power DVD 13 board saying there's been problems with Windows 8.1 and Power DVD 13.And I see Cyberlink just put out a patch for Power DVD 13 on October 30th to resolve the Windwos 8.1 issue.

But I don't see any mention in this board about anybody having problems using Power DVD 12 with Windows 8.1 and Cyberlink didn't put out a patch for Power DVD 12 and Windows 8.1.So can I assume there is no issues with using Power DVD 12 on Windows 8.1 like there seems to be with Power DVD 13 since there been no mention of it on this board?Is it safe to update to Windows 8.1 and not have hassles with my BD drive playing movies with Power DVD 12 or should I stick to Windows 8 for now when I get the new computer?

I really don't want to have to update to Power DVD 13 and just want to be able to play Blu Rays on my new computer with Power DVD 12 without issue.If updating to Windows 8.1 will be a problem with Power DVD 12,I'd like to know now before I buy the new computer and have the Geeks squad start programming it.

1. Should be OK if you have the original disc and the upgrade EXE you downloaded. If the product (CD) key does not work for some reason, just contact support with all your purchase information and they should easily give you an updated one. Contact:

3. I can't comment on your BD disc drive, but PowerDVD 12 should work fine. Support for Windows 8 was added last year.

5. I can't comment on 8.1. Maybe other users here on this forum can comment if the 8.1 upgrade causes problems. (I have Windows 7). But if there are issues, I am sure a patch update would eventually be provided as was for version 13.

Yep,I have original Power DVD 8 disk and my activation(CD) key for Power DVD 12.I have it printed out which I'll give to the Geek Squad to install in the new computer and it is registered here as well.I just checked in the members area in the Product Management Section under my Digital Copy.The (CD) key is there as well which is good.As is my older stuff like Power DVD 8 in the archives.

So no problems there if it becomes necessary.Hopfully it doesn't

So just update and redownload the last patch I installed.The last patch I installed was Updates PowerDVD 12 to build 2428
that came out on 2013-02-21.That was for the problem a Windows Update caused everyone.Before that I updated with the patch put out on 2012-10-11 for the Prometheus and Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter/playing latest FOX titles issue.I see that it also says Supports Windows 8(a non issue for me at the time since I was on Windows Vista)

I actually did not download the very last patch that came out which was on 2013-03-18.The Updates PowerDVD 12 to build 2625 .I don't use you tube on Power DVD 12 so didn't even know that came out since it's a feature I don't use.Had no reason to go look until now.lol

So should I update to that one or the actual last patch I downloaded which was the Updates PowerDVD 12 to build 2428
that came out on 2013-02-21?

So far,there has been no mention on this forum about problems with using Power DVD 12 on Windows 8.1 unlike on the Power DVD 13 forum where several people had problems and Cyberlink put out a patch.

Is it possible that there were only issues with Power DVD 13 on Windows 8.1 and not Power DVD 12 which is the older product?That's what I'm assuming at this point since there's been no mentions in this subforum.

I'll ask when I buy the computer and have the guys program/set it up if it's even worth upgrading to Windows 8.1.If they say sticking with Windows 8 is fine,then this will be moot.I was just thinking since it's brand new computer I should go with the latest Windows.But if it is more of a hassel/buggy/causes problems maybe I should just stick with what it comes with which is Windows 8.That's a big jump for me anyway since my current desktop is Windows Vista although my laptop is Windows 7.

power dvd 12 came with my windows 10 when I bought the computer. how do I move around in it. when I put the sd card into my computer the power dvd comes up automatically. the was no instructions on how to move around in it. I have been winging it gail c lynch
