Oh OK. I thought that when a program autoplays an inserted disk it did this beacuse that program was set in the autoplay settings. This is what happened to me and I cured it by changing the autoplay settings to remove Powerdvd22.

If you find out what fixes it for you please let everyone know by reply to help others in this frustrating scenario.

One thought occurs, amke sure you are using the autoplay launched for Control panel not from Windows settings. Apologies if you already did this.

That's not it,I had already done that. Thank you anyway and I fully agree with you btw.

I mean when powerdvd is already running, if I insert a disc it starts playback at once without asking anything. Previous versions just loaded disc info but didn't start until I clicked Play.

Quote Hello, is there a way to prevent auto playback of a disc when inserted while pdvd is already running ?

This used to be the case until version 2020 (didn't try 2021), or maybe there was an option that I set at the time but can't find it now.

Thank you

I find it intensely annoying and arrogant when programs , without asking, make their player autoplay. Every time you update too.

Just type Autoplay into the windows where you can set the defaults back to your preference.
Quote Why not test it our yourself: https://www.cyberlink.com/downloads/trials/powerdvd-ultra/download_en_US.html

That's the best way to determine if it will work on your specific setup.

Trial does not permit UHD disk playback.
Quote I think that the quality and the compatibility of current available HDR contents are still varied per my observation.

And, the new GPU driver keeps rolling out to handle the fact: HDR playback is not stable or the color is not accurate.

The recent released Intel GPU driver has annouced that it fixes some HDR playback issues. (I forgot which version mentioned the fix.)
Try it.

BTW, if you don't have a HDR monitor, just play the non-HDR version on the UHD disk.
The artificial and downscaled SDR color playback (from the original HDR one) is overall fake, and not accurate.

If you really care about the playback quality, save your effort, and not to watch the HDR video on a SDR monitor.
The native SDR video can give you a relatively better viewing experience on a standard SDR monitor.

Thank you for taking the time to post an answer and a detailed one at that.

I'm trying to play HDR on an HDR projector.

I agree that the latest drivers have made some small improvements (I think I'm on 6373). I keep everything up to date driver wise. One of the issues the driver update recently fixed was that I was losing visibilty of my mouse cursor in HDR movies.

I also tend to agree with you that HDR BR source content seems of variable quality. It seems a mixture of leading edge, content, drivers is leading to issues. This is the price for sitting on the edge I guess.

It's a pity that some of the blame seems to lie with content beacuse drivers and software may be fixed in future but they aren't going to ship me a new BluRay , lol.

Thankd again for taking the time, I really appreciate it.
Hi,

I would be interested in any comments on the following situation. Everything here is using Powerdvd18 2202 and the discs are UHD 4K HDR10.

Different disks give me different results, consistently, let me explain.

  1. Most disks such as Passengers, Ready Player One, Interstellar, the Martian and in fact most of my 4K HDRs play in HDR every time. no problem.

2. Bladerunner 2049 looks great but I don't believe it plays in HDR (although information says HEVC). The reason I say this is that it is the only disk which allows Truetheater to be enabled, leading me to think that it is playing truetheater SDR enhanced, not true HDR.

3. Paddiington 2. Usually plays in washed out sdr. Very occasionally, especially if it's the first disk I play after a reboot, it will play in HDR but generally it is washed out. This can also affect subsequent play issues with other disks that I play and sometimes it will "lock" PDVD, requiring me to reboot.

Why does the ability to play HDR in PDVD depend on which disk I play?
Quote Arrow keys won't get me the settings menu to alter playback options. How do you turn subtitles on with the arrow keys on your keyboard? It needs a functioning mouse. Actually the mouse works fine it's just the pointer that is invisible. All drivers are up to date. This only happens with hdr, normal blurays play fine. I've raised a ticket.

OK, I figured out a fix of sorts for myself in case anyone else has this problem. Edit the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. Value Name: EnableCursorSuppression. Type: REG_DWORD

Change the value from "1" enablemousecursorsuppression to "0". This fixes the issue in Powerdvd but of course, may have undesirable side effects in other apps. In my case I have a dedicated Cinema setup so the only function of that PC is to drive my projector. Mouse pointer now works as expected in Powerdvd when playing HDR content.

This works until (if) Cyberlink come up with a more targeted fix.

Quote Hello,

This is because some disc titles do not allow the use of a mouse. PowerDVD has a couple ways to let you work around this. Firstly, you can use the enter and arrow keys on the keyboard to cycle through the options.

The second is the Blu-ray Disc Mouse Solution. You can access it by clicking the More functions button on the playback controls the button made up of 9 small squares). You can click the arrow buttons to cycle through the content.

Lol. How do you click on anything when you can't see your mouse cursor?????
While playing the film the mouse cursor becomes invisible meaning I cannot control PDVD with the mouse.

I'm in PC mode. Tried the usual things in mouse settings. PDVD remote does not help.

Cursor returns when I stop playing the move (which can be tricky without mouse control)

Any ideas?
Quote Did you install the program to somewhere other than the system drive? The program may be looking for it there if you did; of course it would be on the drive where you installed it and not on the system drive.

Thanks for your reply SteveK. Yes, it's a newly purchased Intel Nuc with only a SSD inside so yes, the system drive. Somehow it seems not to be marking the fact that it has activated this component because it plays the movie just fine afetr that in glorious 4k and HDR. I only have Windows and Powerdvd 17 loaded on this Nuc so no intereference from any other software.
Hi,

I can play 4k UHD Blurays in HDR fine, but I get this message EVERY time I play a disk.

How can I stop PDVD doing this?

Thanks
What IS a Blu-ray CD?
Quote: I am in discussion with CyberLinks support team regarding my new PowerDVD 14 download. They have been very helpful but the issue is still not "sorted".

I just wondered if anyone else has the same problem.....

I am running Windows 8.1 on a 64 bit desktop computer but when I look at PowerDVD that was downloaded I find that my computer is running the 32bit version. There is no information within the program itself regarding which version ws downloaded (and there was no "option" during the download to specify the 64bit program) but it was while I was looking at something else in "Task Manager" (Cntrl+Alt+Del >>>Task Manager) that I noticed the PowerDVD was only running the 32bit version.

Just wondered if there are others out there that unknowingly are running the 32bit on a 64bit computer.

Rog, I don't believe there IS a 64 bit version, what makes you think that there is?
Same here
Hi Micael,

So far this seems to have fixed both issues for me. There seems to be a difference between having the screen maximised so that it occupies full screen and the full screen button way of getting it to occupy the full screen.

many thanks, I'm back to using 11 again!

Regards

Glenn
I am having to revert to PowerDVD10, there are just too many issues with 11. Not a great job.

I have exactly the above issue. Most times the mouse and the top and bottom menus do NOT disappear regardless of where the mouse is placed.

I have an additional problem of black bars to the SIDE of movies from time to time. When this occurs the only way to correct it that i have found is to switch to cinema mode then back to classic.
