Help help help please!
It is some time since I made my last DVD but this one of my HOLIDAY in June has stopped in the middle (2mins and 49 secs of about 11 mins) of creating the .264 file that I was next going to use to burn the DVD.
When it stopped it said something like "unable to import file" or something similar. So I went to "My Videos" and played back the file it HAD created thus far. It was shown as a DVD gold disc with a blue arrow on it I think. I played it in Windows Videomaker. Some of the audio was missing and some of the video was missing. Yes, a bucket of you know what. So I deleted it from the file.
The "Produce" page was still open on the screen but not responding to any clicks on the mouse. I couldn't even close it!!! So I turned off the computer and then back on again. Then I went to the "Power Director" icon on the desktop and when I clicked on that it would not open either but a window came up saying "Concurrent User Sessions are not supported"!!! Oh really???
Can some kind person please help me fix this mess?
Thanks so much.
Phil.

Hal,
Thanks so much for your helpful reply. I will try it now that I have seen your reply and report back when complete.
Yes, I don't know why such big file size either.
Cheers!

Hi guys. I've been away for a while but now have this problem to try and find a solution for.
I might also say that I did a search of every kind to come up with some answers but there
seems to be nothing available. We're talking PD8 here.
My wife has been abroad and the videos she has taken amount to 48mins on the timeline.
I created an MPEG2 file and put it on the timeline to burn to DVD.
Unfortunately it is telling me that the file is 6.7GB and the DVD has only 4.7GB available.
What can be done please? Presumable cut the timeline in half for the original edited timeline
(not the MPEG2 file).
But I don't know how to approach this without losing the second half of the video which has
taken me a long time to put together and then having to painstakingly remake it on the timeline.
Also, the MPEG2 file says it is in 720 x ? quality. Is that correct? If I was shooting in 1080 x 1920 should I be creating a file in H.264?
Thanks in advance.
Phil.

I should have explained that PD8 is on the new computer and Pinnacle 9.4 is on the old one (P4).
When I right click on the clip in the library it doesn't offer "Open Containing Folder." I have Windows XP on that computer.

Hi again. A couple of years ago I did some footage from a family outing and made a DVD but recently lost the DVD + 2 others I had taken to a friends for viewing.
Last night I found the raw footage in Pinnacle 9.4 on my old computer (P4 Pentium) at the end of a different video.
It appears in page 3 in the Library of the video but I can't find it anywhere else.
So I tried copying and pasting it to different places but nothing pasted.
Any ideas please?
Thanks so much,
Phil.

I am down loading PD9 as I type.. I had a quick look at the PD9 forum. It looks like all the top names are flat out with questions and issues so I guess we will not see them here.
Pd8 can not coexist with PD9 so you will need to back up any PD8 projects
PD9 looks to be full of bugs an features, bleeding edge software.
I think I will wait until it settles down before I load PD9.
"Pd8 can not coexist with PD9 so you will need to back up any PD8 projects"
Can you please give me a bit more of an explanation on the above selection? Just
in case I find enough money to upgrade to PD9. They hammer us here in Australia for some reason.
Thanks.

Dave,
Thanks for the helpful link - it was much easier to understand and I have now fixed my editing problem by using multi trim function.
Cheers,
Phil

Thanks Cranston for your help.
One more question. You say "In Trim" to set the input/ output markers and then the portion in between the markers will be retained. Do you mean I should click on "Trim" first and then set the markers and click on "Trim" again?
I guess I'm asking, What does "In Trim" mean and once the markers are set what causes that section to be trimmed out? Having set the markers do I click trim or remove or cut or what???
Thanks in advance: Another Chris
It appears you cannot remove a piece of video from the middle of a clip. This is useless!
This tutorial just shows how to remove a piece from the beginning of the clip. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osj2FVDcm5Y
Anyone knows that removing a piece from the middle of a clip vastly outnumbers the times you just want to remove a piece from the beginning of the clip.

Chris,
Try doing what I said, using what vn800rider said to find what frame you want to split at. (thanks Adrian)
This will eliminate using the "Trim" window.
For me, I find the Trim window useless.
Eric
Yes, the Trim window is indeed useless!

Actually I am having the very same problem with the trim function on PD8.
The instruction video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osj2FVDcm5Y only tells you how to remove footage from the beginning of the clip and not in the middle.
I have tried many times to remove a bit in the middle and it does not work. As you can see from the comments on the above tutorial many others agree with me.
So, how do you trim a piece out of the middle of the clip?
Thanks.

Mark,
Perhaps Cyberlink might do some comparison tests re 32/64 bit systems and let us know what they find.
After all we are not experts and we just read the advertising splurge. As far as I can tell all the advertising says is that it does all this and all that and is the most whizz-bang software you could ever want.
Then there is Mr GZ 1967. What setup (64 or 32) did he have?

This is the thread I was referring to where upgrading to PD9
fixed the freezing at transitions problem -

see the post at 23:20:08 by GZ1967.

Mark N, My system spec is in my signature above and below plus Vista Home Premium 32 bit..
My camera is a Sanyo Xacti FH1.
Still on PD8 for now.

Cranston,
I saw on another thread somewhere that PD9 made ALL the difference and got rid of this freezing at transitions in Preview. I will link here if I get the time to search for it and find it.
I too was using 60fps HD and had the exact same problem of freezing at transitions in the preview window. I resorted to only recording at 30fps. Not quite the result I was aiming for but at least I can edit properly now.

If anyone else is still having this problem this is what worked for me.
Went to the Auto Save files and clicked on the last one saved. (find AutoSave here: C:\Documents and Settings\Users\YOUR PC NAME HERE\Application Data\Roaming\CyberLink\PowerDirector\8.0\AutoSave)
As it tries to open the file a box comes up saying "An error has occurred trying to open this media" and gives you three button options - 1) Browse 2) Ignore 3) Ignore all.
Click on 1) Browse and find the file for the project. (I had previously wrongly clicked on "Ignore all" to get it to continue)
On the LH side is the list of video files (manilla files).
On the RH side are all the clips for that file.
Click on the relevant manilla file and then click 'open'.
BINGO - it opens with all the relevant files in the library with green ticks on all and the timeline eventually appears with all the edited clips in place!!
Then SAVE IT!

I filmed the project on one day 13th Nov.
In the auto save folder it shows -
12 items for the 13th
5 items for the 14th
2 items for the 16th
However, ALL timelines show blacked out video clips and transitions and have no clips in the library except the music tracks.
So the whiteout which lost all clips in the timeline on the 16th also acted retrospectively back to the 13th too.
I am now able to open them all and the music also plays.
I have tried changing the Alias to the proper name for the first clip but that didn't work.
I also changed one word in the name of the project and the PDS file before it was auto saved on the 16th. Would that affect things?

"The big Question now is.....Were you prompted to browse for the missing video files when you reopened your project?"
No.
"Just a tip, something that many of us have learned to do: When you save your project while editing it....ALWAYS use the "SAVE AS" and sequentially add a number to your project name. Project001...Project002, Project003, etc. etc. If you only SAVE your project and something goes wrong then that is all you have......having sequentially named project files to revert back to can often be a lifesaver. "
I'll certainly try to follow that advice next time!
Thanks Kevin.

Kevin,
Enable file processing is UNchecked already.
Thanks.
I will try to get the other info.
How do I attach a screen shot of my project?
I prefer not to start again from scratch for 2 reasons - 1. It might do the same thing to me when I finish the project and go to save it!! 2. It is a lot of work - hours.
Tks,
Phil

After 3 days with no internet connection.....
Thanks Cap'n Kevin. I found the saved files and initially I was able to open one of them albeit about the same as my saved file - all blacked out where the video clips and fade transitions should be.
However, after trying different dates/times I can get none of them to open.
There are about 18 different "saves" but none will now open.
The one that did open at first had no clips in the library though.
Actually I've just discovered I can't even open PD at all!
Ok fixed that - just have to log off and start again and it opens ok but every saved file for the last day (16th Nov) still has just black spaces where the clips & fades should be. Earlier saves are just the same but much less data on the timeline and no clips in the library!
It seems that the clips in the timeline just need the link data (location on the disc) to bring them back to life. No, I haven't changed the location on the disc. I seem to recall that I solved this same problem some months ago on another project but can't remember how to now.
Also, playing back either the saved or auto saved version there is no music even though the music is shown on the music track. The only thing that plays back are the titles!
Any ideas please?
