Trim and Multi Trim functions

This maybe a dumb question - How does the trim and Multi Trim function work, everytime I mark in and mark out I end up with the unwanted clips in the video, I'm doing something wrong but I can't seem to grasp the concept of using the trim fucntion, can anybody try to explain in plain language how to remove unwanted clips from a captured video
I'm using PowerDirector V8 and Windows Vista

Please also be aware you can reverse the selection you've made with in/out so you leave the opposite. Hope that makes sense.

Actually I am having the very same problem with the trim function on PD8.
The instruction video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osj2FVDcm5Y only tells you how to remove footage from the beginning of the clip and not in the middle.
I have tried many times to remove a bit in the middle and it does not work. As you can see from the comments on the above tutorial many others agree with me.
So, how do you trim a piece out of the middle of the clip?

If you want to save yourself the headache of trim and multi-trim just use the split at the beginning of the section you don't want then split at the end then delete unwanted section, very simple and easy to use. My youtube channel====> http://www.youtube.com/user/relate2?feature=mhsn

I,generally do the same as Robert2 S above and use the split option. Super simple for me.

Thanks for the helpful link - it was much easier to understand and I have now fixed my editing problem by using multi trim function.

I'm glad it helped you out Phil, it can be a very confusing issue but with a little patience editing can be done with trim and multi trim...
