When dealing with photos, I have found that with most NLE's, it is best to always set your "project" as full resolution HD. Then adjust your "output" to the source, SD in this case.

Randy
Another important factor is whether you are making a SD-DVD or Bluray/AVCHD. When compared to original photo quality or HD video output, photos on SD output video, just do not look good to most.
Photos need HD output to look the best.
Quote: And to those that are wondering: the Avivo accelerator app is included (although it is the same rev level as before). Things are working OK with this release.

For some reason, there have been reports that it was not included with some downloads. Some also don't mention it as being part of the package. If you got it, your good to go.
The new windows certified 12-2 ATI drivers are now out. it is suggested that all ATI card owners running older drivers, upgrade to this version. Be sure to un-install ALL ATI software, before upgrading. Use the express un-install. Restart then install new 12-2.

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx

Note: AMD Media Codec (Avivo) is now a seperate download. Be sure to get the 12-2 version of that also. Hardware decoding in any NLE won't work without it.

Its best that the 12-2 chipset drivers should also be updated, if you have a AMD motherboard.

Good luck.

I would suggest that since you are upgrading drives, that you consider a bluray burner. You can get one at newegg for $79. They also do lightscribe for DVD-CD, as well as everything a regular dvd burner does. This way you will be able to burn to bluray disc, in the future. That the path most people are taking when upgrading dvd burners. The progress of technology.

Quote: ok, I'll try cleaning it all out and starting from scratch.

I'm on XP-64bit though, not W7

You may need to uninstall drivers with the video card installed.

So try uninstall NVIDA, then remove card, put ATI back in and uninstall ATI. Then put your nvida back in and install new XP-64 bit drivers.
Quote: it was a Radeon 512mb card that I replaced, so I don't think that particular issue should be a problem.

thanks though

It's the 64bit version I'm installing, would that affect the driver number so much?

You should have un-installed the ATI driver, before removing the ATI card. You can try now, but may get an error.

You need the Nvida 64 bit video drivers for W7 64 bit.

Quote: Gents,

I'm a fan of Lightscribe as well.

Unfortunately I don't think any one makes a BluRay Lightscribe Disc yet.

I also can't find any at this point which is a bitch as bluray players really have the biggest problem with label peel off.
It seems the heat build up and spin rates of bluray players cause all kinds of problems with stick on labels.

PLENTY of white inkjet direct pritable bluray disc.
Quote: I recently changed my video card from a nvidia gtx260 to amd 6870 and was having this issue with the catalyst 12.1 drivers. I downloaded the 12.2 precertified catalyst drivers to my desktop. Then used control panels to uninstal previous drivers (using express paramaters). I then rebooted and installed the 12.2 from my desktop and all is well with PD10 now. Interesting that when I click on catalyst infro it says that i have version 12.3 (not 12.2).

ATI sometimes does that in pre-releases. If it works, you are fine.

I agree both ways are better than stick on labels that is for sure.
I have screwed up my truck CD player and one blyray home theatre player with stick on labels and that was enough for me.

It don't happen often but when it does WELLLL

Yes, that only takes once.
Quote: A DVD done with LightScibe is NEVER going to peel or come loss / never going to have ink runs.

Takes a little while to burn on back of DVD but when it is done at least I know playing disc is not going to ruin my Bluray player by label coming off inside play
this happen to me 2 times no more glue on labels for me thank you.

Here is a LightScibe I burned.

I have NEVER had a ink run. When they come out of the Epsons, the standard disc dry enough in a few minutes to handle. The high gloss do need a few hours to dry completly. They are tacky, but none will "run".

But I agree with you on labels. A lot of people can't apply labels correctly, and the cheap ones do sometimes peel. But Bubba seems to have develop a sucessfull pattern.

Once you print (full color and high resolution) directly to disc, you would never go back to lightscribe.
Concerning the print quality and color...... Your media is a critical factor here. You should try the super gloss media from verbitim or other major quality manufactors. Its the same difference as trying to print a photo on copy paper vs photo paper. You also will use the quality print setting in your program. But drying times will be longer.

I have used generic ink before, with no issues, but the Epson ink does giver better results and looks noticeable better on media.so I stivk with that.

I have been using the Epson printers for years with no issues. The artisan series has DVD/CD/bluray built in and a free printing program.

Mine look as good as a commercial DVD/bluray. You should see the look on brides faces when they see their favorite wedding photo printed directly on the DVD/bluray, in super gloss. Or that favorite beach or cruise shot from a family trip.

Lightscribe really does not compare to that.

Randy
I have been direct printing CD/DVD , and now bluray, for years. Several Epson printers will print directly to white inkjet media. It also includes the software required to design and print for beautiful and professional results,

You do have to have a printer with that option built in.
.Its not an add on.

RANDY.
Quote: I have both install on my computers and have not had any problems. That I have seen.

Micheal,

Hello. Just PM'd you.

Randy
Fyi, with other nle's, There seems to be a performance/stability/compatable difference in W7 pro 64 vs W7 home 64. I have also noticed this with other business software.
I would advise W7 pro.

... and Randy, I'm sure you're not alone!

Tony,

I am being 100% honest here. I learned a HARD lesson with AS-1 ............. never to purchase a NLE without the trial. Regardless of how long you have used past versions. That is no guarantee that new ones will be usable.

Randy
Quote: Gordonis -

You're right. People should do their own tests. In some cases, with the PD10 trial, that's IMPOSSIBLE! Whilst I wouldn't jump in here and (unhelpfully) suggest using a competing product, I think it's very strange marketing practice to have a trial version that doesn't allow a proper trial (e.g. if your camera records in AVC & produces .mts files).

Just to clarify about "file processing" (shadow files). Using these is only necessary for lower end PCs working with HD content. It allows smoother editing, because PD makes a set of lower res proxy files (mpg) of all your video clips. I've had them turned OFF from Day 1.

The Hardware Acceleration issues apply only to some ATI drivers http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/21636.page NVIDIA users don't have the same problems.

Cheers - Tony

Tony,

I would welcome a PD10 updated trial, that included all patches and Bluray output. That's what keeping me from purchasing PD10. BTW: I am an Avid/Pinnacle long time customer.

Randy
Looks like 12-1 has an issue with all NLE's. ATI messed up big time.

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=428&threadid=158655&enterthread=y

capt'n Kevin says that the 12-2 does work, at the posted link in earlier post.

Randy
The ATI 12-2 preview driver is actually already out. Don't know if it will resolve the issue, but here is the link:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst122Previewdriver.aspx

Be sure to install complete driver and AVIVO.

NOTE: If you don't follow the COMPLETE uninstall instructions, the new driver might work properly.

Randy
Dafydd,

Do you mean go back to the 11-12 (December) driver? 11-2 would be feb 2011.

Anyone wishing to go back, should follow ATI's instructions (carefully) for complete removal of old driver. Drivers with issues are hard to flush out completly. I listed them in this post:
