NEWS ITEM
Info from CyberLink
ATI Catalyst driver 12.1 (display driver version 8.93) released on 1/25/2012 does not allow HW encoding in PD10. (hardware video encoder option will grey out in Produce page)

http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx

But previous 11.12 (display driver version 8.92) is Ok.

Previous AMD drivers:

Dafydd,

Do you mean go back to the 11-12 (December) driver? 11-2 would be feb 2011.

Anyone wishing to go back, should follow ATI's instructions (carefully) for complete removal of old driver. Drivers with issues are hard to flush out completly. I listed them in this post:

Interesting. I have Catalyst version 12.1 and a 32-bit system, and I can use hardware encoding. I only tried with MPEG 2. As much as they update, hopefully the problem will blow over soon. __________________________________

You are correct.... that option is now greyed out with the latest AMD version on my 64 bit.... but I don't think I am going to worry about it... wait til the next version comes out next few weeks... __________________________________________

Hi KentuckyRandy ,
I think that's a typo error and should be 11.12 - the message was copied'n'pasted from an email. I'll correct, thanks for posting the query.

I installed ATI HD 6750 recently and then a Catalyst update (12.1), does not turn hardaware encoder, that message has recommended to install the AVIVO pack, I did it and did not solve.
Uninstall the Catalyst (12.1) seems well done.
I installed using the disc, Gigabyte and everything works (the AVIVO pack etc.. Already been included)
Driver 8.82
Catalyst (11.2)
Anyway does not seem to make much difference here, activated or not, I did short tests
Enables to MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG4 and (H-264 AVC)

The ATI 12-2 preview driver is actually already out. Don't know if it will resolve the issue, but here is the link:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst122Previewdriver.aspx

Be sure to install complete driver and AVIVO.

NOTE: If you don't follow the COMPLETE uninstall instructions, the new driver might work properly.

For what it is worth:

I uninstalled my ATI Driver, Version 11.8 via control panel and then....

I installed the ATI 12.2 preview driver on my Windows 7 64-bit system and tested to see if Hardware Acceleration was available in Power Director 10 build 1129b, and Hardware Acceleration WAS available(see Screen shot for verification). I produced using to a H.264 AVC 1920x1080 video file and it looked perfect to me.

PLEASE NOTE: I DID NOT install the Media Codec Pack(formerly known as AVIVO) 12.1 on my first test...just to see what would happen.

I then installed the Media Codec Pack 12.1 and retested. Hardware Acceleration was again available for the usual video file types. Just wanted to make sure that it wasn't the Media Codec Pack causing some kind of problem.

I do find it interesting that I am able to select HA even without the Media Codec Pack installed! Another one of lifes mysteries!

Best,

Kevin

What is strange is that Avivo was included in the full Catalyst download in previous versions (I don't have them to confirm) and yet in 12.1 it is no longer the case. AMD does not explain it either.

Looks like 12-1 has an issue with all NLE's. ATI messed up big time.

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=428&threadid=158655&enterthread=y

capt'n Kevin says that the 12-2 does work, at the posted link in earlier post.

After a bit of testing:

If UPDATING from 11.xx to 12.1 the Avivo (HA) files are kept (as per the custom install menu and resultant log). If 12.1 is installed after 11.xx is removed fully then the Avivo files are missing and one needs to download them separately from the AMD site. This does not make sense but it explains why the feature is missing all of a sudden. In 11.xx Avivo WAS loaded by default.

On a PC (with Win7 + i7 + 6 GB memory) I find rendering using the PC only still takes only half the time as that of the GPU+PC. And the video quality is noticeably better. Win 10, i7

I recently changed my video card from a nvidia gtx260 to amd 6870 and was having this issue with the catalyst 12.1 drivers. I downloaded the 12.2 precertified catalyst drivers to my desktop. Then used control panels to uninstal previous drivers (using express paramaters). I then rebooted and installed the 12.2 from my desktop and all is well with PD10 now. Interesting that when I click on catalyst infro it says that i have version 12.3 (not 12.2). Land of fieros, North Dakota USA

ATI sometimes does that in pre-releases. If it works, you are fine. Self Built PC - W7 Pro 64 bit w/ SP1
