Dafydd,

Do you mean go back to the 11-12 (December) driver? 11-2 would be feb 2011.

Anyone wishing to go back, should follow ATI's instructions (carefully) for complete removal of old driver. Drivers with issues are hard to flush out completly. I listed them in this post:

Randy.
Quote: 11.9 works, but from everything I have read, only a clean install will revert it properly. I'm just gonna wait for the next driver update, hopefully it will be fixed. It is seeming as though ALL apps are affected, so I imagine the volume level for a fix will increase

Follow these instructions:

1. Go here and download the latest ( full package) driver, for your operating system and your card. But don't install yet. http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/downloads.aspx

2. Go to add and remove programs and use the ATI Catalyst Install Manager to do a complete uninstall of all its resources. Do not reboot. Instructions here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx

3. Download Guru3D (actualy download same time as #1) - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com and install it.

4. Reboot in Safe Mode and run Driver Sweeper. Select "ATI Display" box and click "analyze. " Then in "clean". Reboot normally and try to install the latest version of the AMD Catalyst. It can be download from here: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-c...ndows-7-a.html

5. Restart in regular windows mode.

6. Install the full driver pack in #1.

7. Restart. You are ready to go.

Note: be aware that your older card still may not support the newer driver features, regardless of what driver you use.

Just wanted to add my 2 cents worth I think Tony is also , VERY polite, professional and knowledgable. He also is an asset to this forum.

Same for Barry, and nice video.
Quote: Running PD 10 Win7 x32 - I also have the same issue with an ATI Radeon 2400 PRO card which has the latest driver but the field is still showing greyed out - any ideas on what else I can do?

That is an older model ATI card, and I don't think those features are availible with that card. You may need to upgrade to a 6000 series, to support the new driver features.

Quote: Cap'n Kevin, Welcome back to the forum, I am glad you decided to start posting again, I, for one missed your great posts and comments.

Barry, You did an excellent job on the Railroad Museum video and stills, It is good to see some of those old trains being restored. The Museum has a big job ahead with all those cars sitting outside.

It is great to see use of Powerdirector that is a very successful outcome.

Thanks Carl!!
I might be moving to Italy I hear they're looking for a new cruise ship captain, just a rumor though

Best,

Kevin

Kevin,

We can use a good cap'n here in KY also! See this recent article. This happened 20 miles from where my daughter lives.

On another point, Kevin was one of my first contacts here, when first posting on this forum. He was VERY polite, professional and knowledgable. He is an asset to this forum. A couple others here could learn from that.

What kind of camcorder are you using? What profile does the camcorder shoot in? Are you using a Bluray player to watch the DVD on your TV? If you can supply some more information, then I think some of the members can give you some good advise.

I just bought a GoPro camera. It records in MP4. I watch in on a bluray player (Magnavox MBP5210/F7 Wi-Fi Blu-ray). I have shot 720p and 1080p. From what I got from abslayer... it is better to burn it through nero after it is produced?

KentuckyRandy, Do I need to create a AVCHD DVD for the best quality?

Many people use a free burning program called imgburn. That will give you the best compatibility with most bluray players. Search for it in google. AVCHD should give you a nice looking result.
Quote: I have been trying to find a step by step process for creating a high quality disk. PowerDirector 10 has so many features for producing and creating a disk (format and quality), but I'm not sure which items I should select to create the best possible video quality. I have attempted to try many of the options, but have not been completely satisfied with my results. When I hook up the camera directly to my TV, I love the clarity and quality. But I can't duplicate that quality to a dvd for playback.

So my question is, what steps are taken by experienced users to create a great quality DVD? Do you produce it first? Which format is best? Do you create an avchd disk or regular disk (I have attempted to AVCHD but they won't play in my DVD player). Considering I have a well running machine, how you would create the best quality dvd?

Which is best quality to produce?
MPEG-2 (DVD-HQ, (HDV) MPEG-2, 720p, BD 1920x 1080)
MPEG-4 (Best Quality MPEG-4)
AVCHD (1920x1080 /60i (24Mbps), 1920x1080 /60p (28Mbps))
.MOV (QuickTime Full HD Quality)

PS. Newbie here so be nice.

Even though you can burn AVCHD on a standard DVD, you have to have a Bluray player, to play it on your TV.

You also have to have a Bluray burner (on your PC) to burn a real BD-R disc. And a Bluray player to play it.

As long as your footage was shot is HD, and you develped and produced a HD project in PD, then either result from above will look great on a HD-TV.
You could also have an old standard (1.1) DVD player. i ran accross someone else with this issue. IMGBURN has a setting to use the old 1.1 standard to burn. Try that. I don't remember where it is, but its in the menu, somewhere after you add the files, before you burn.

Like Dafydd said, you just have to keep elliminating things, until you discover the culpret.
Quote: Hi Carl312

Thanks for you reply

Yes I did burn the
VIDEO_TS folder, and not the my video folder.

It played the Selection menu OK
But just gives up playing the Main Video

Thanks

Mark

Then it either has to be PD (incompatable output file) or DVD player (incompatable playing the file). Try producing the project without the menu, as that may be the issue.
Try burning the DVD with a free program called imgburn. Just Google it.

Enough Said.

You do know that the BBB was sited, nationwide, last year for selling ratings. Seems that only "A" ratings for reserved for paying customers, meaning "accredited". I actually had them to call my business and offer to "sell" me a rating. Then they denied it after the federal claim. Said it was a rouge employee.
Very odd! Take both disc down to a local electronic store and see if they will play on various players.

Quote: I am not home to check, but I think I too have a bd65. Its 3 years old and one of the first affordable BR players. A few month ago I connected a network cable to it and it imediatly found numberous firmware updates...

I would check for firmware updates 1st.

All suggestions above are valid, you will just have to pinpoint your specific issue. Menu's have been an issue with some AVCHD disc, as well as bluray, with many NLE's. Try projects with and without. But its usually not the players problem, rather how the software renders menu's.

I have a pana bd35 (same age as your 65), and it plays everything I put in it. I do install all firmware updates as they are released, as it has been several. So, yes, do update. Pana's are usually one of the best for AVCHD / Bluray compatibility, assuming your AVCHD/bluray format is correct on your disc.

Also I would suggest using a good quality DVD-R, instead of DVD+R. Verbitim is a good brand. Avoid DL (dual layer) disc, as they can be problems.

IMGBURN (a free 3rd party burning software, give excellent compatability for burning disc. Try that.

Quote: Randy, thanks for the extensive instructions. I'll print them off and try to follow in the correct sequence (having set a system restore just beforehand in case I screw up).

I knew you guys would help!

Mark

Mark, when you go to Dell site and type in your system I'd number, it will show you all driver updates for your specific system. What you want to download and install are anything Intel related. Follow their instructions. Be careful on the BIOS update, make sure you don't restart until it tells you that its done.
Quote: Regardless of the ATI instructions, they've designed the interface to click-to-update from the newer AMD control panel, and we all agree the driver is too old. I've no doubt Mark45 is now a little confused about what to do.

The ati instructions are on the link I listed, just read and decide what's best yourself. He should not be confused, my instructions are very detailed and clear, and per manufacturer. Yes, there are other, less than optimal ways to upgrade.

The poster can just follow the ati part if he only wants to uograde video. Chipset and BIOS drivers updates, are only needed when a system gets really out of date, as this one is. Going forward, the video drivers will be the only ones needing regular updates, so the ati instruction will be all that's needed. But all these parts work together.

I only answered your request for experienced instructions, from an ati IT. Its up to the individual whether they want to follow.

Randy
Quote: Folks. This type of advice is excessive. Regardless of who makes the PC. Massive upgrades are rarely required in today's PC environment. Making such massive changes only asks for more problems.

My advice was exactly per instructions by amd/ati , as well as dell.
The ati instructions are standard for each driver update, and are the exact instructions in ati offical instructions, and on ati forum. Not following these instructions have lead to many driver related issues, per ati. I have followed these instructions on all my at I upgrades.

The Intel chipset drivers are unrelated to ati, but I noticed he has old chipset drivers. If you have a amd chipset motherboard, then amd has chipset drivers also.

Ati issues new drivers once per month.

The audio drivers are unrelated, but again he had old drivers.

The entire upgrade path I listed, took all his needs in consideration.

Randy
Quote: A little perplexed as to why the driver had negative effects on other programs/games.
Just follow the directions and see what happens.
For SURE, you need a newer driver.
I have both Nvidia and ATI, but my ATI is just a piker of a card.
NOTE: just took a peek at the download page. Can't hurt to get the AVIVO (formerly), but I still think it's part of the package anyway. An ATI guru must be here somewhere, even on ThanksGiving!

ATI guru to the rescue!

before you start, degrag your pc.

1. First go to Dell or motherboard site, and update ALL the INTEL chipset drivers for your motherboard. Also, bios, if needed. be sure you get the correct ones for your system. Restart when finished.
2. Go to ATI and download catalyst : http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/integrated_win7-64.aspx#1
3, Go to ATI and download codec pack (avivo) http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/pages/radeon_win7-64.aspx#3
4. Do NOT install drivers at this time, ...... First Go to control panel and uninstall ALL ATI software.
5. restart PC
6. Wait until windows loads. It will find the vga driver. If is aks you if you want windows to find or install the driver, answer NO, and exit windows install.
7. Click on ATI catalyst downloaded file and Install the catalyst driver. Choose auto install.
8. restart
9. Install the ATI media codec package.
10. restart.
11. Go here and download the update driver for your Realtek sound card: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
12. Uninstall old driver, restart.
13. Install new, and restart.
14. degrag your PC. You are finished.
NOTE: You may ned to install the ATI HDMI driver. if so, get it here also: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsCheck.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

Randy
I agree with Fred, too much tinkering can be bad, and the top "gamer" system may not be the best NLE system. You want to use the right components for NLE.

I am not a PD10 user yet, but have experience with several NLE's. There are basic rules for all NLE's. I have built many systems specificaly for NLE's. Get a good video card!

Forget the SSD, this new SATA drive is the fastest I have seen for recent builds. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145533

Randy
I don't know of any NLE that works to full potential with a integrated gpu. Get a good PCIE Video card!

Also, many people have issues with ssd and NLE's also.

I prefer the new Hitachi 7200 1 TB - 1 platter sata drives, for w7-64 bit.. Read write speeds are similar to ssd, without the issues. I also have a wd black, that I moved to my d drive, for storage.

Otherwise your system looks fine. Good luck on the build.

Randy
You did order an Intel MB to go with that I7, correct?
