Nothing has changed. HDTV is connected to GTX1060 via HDMI cable. Guess I should check my BIOS again. The only option it has is GPU 'preference' - integrated or PCIE slot. PD15 is the only app that won't use the GTX1060.
---
edit: really odd - in Particles , etc., I see teh nVidia logo on them. Yet in produce, PD will only use Quicksync. ??

I have ASRock mobo Intel Z87 chipset with i7 4770k and GTX1060. Just recently upgraded to Win10 Pro from 8.1 Pro. For some odd reason, PD 15 wants to use Intel iGPU instead of the GTX1060. Never had this issue with Win 8.1! As far as I know, there is no way to disable th iGPU in the BIOS. The mobo does not have Hybrid MS mode that I know (desktop - not a laptop).
Any ideas?

YOu could always create a custom output profile 720x480 AVC@30fps progressive at a higher bitrate for better quality in PD15.

There should be an option to turn it off. Personally I find it extremely annoying.

transitions, titles, effects all vastly superior to what I find on powerdirector.
If you are new to PD15, I can see how you might think that. But like Barry stated, I don't see anything there that can't be done in Power Director. First, making a video look 'professional' in any editor takes a lot time and fore thought. You can't just sit down and cobble together a few clips in a few minutes. I rarely use PD alone - a good graphics editor is handy. And somtimes even a 3D titler can spice things up. I'm not a big fan of too many gimmicks though.

Or a link to the youtube channel you think is 'more professional'. Power Director is a very powerful video editor. Has features that I've never used. Your idea of professional and my idea could be totally different.

With PD, I do a LOT of transcoding HD TV MPEG2 files to MP4. Never did get the RX470 to use hardware acceleration with MP4. That alone was enough for me to return it. I don't game so didn't test that and never crashed.
|
|
My experience - nVidia GTX video cards work much better with Power Director. I bought a RX470, but I got frustrated with how PD worked with it. Returned it and bought GTX1060 My next CPU will be Ryzen or Thread Ripper, but I will stick with nVidia video card for Power Director.

Power Director has never recognized digital tuners of any brand.
I believe that it works with someone else’s digital tuner and mine. See the attached screenshot.
I have two digital tuners. PD does recognize the drivers, but doesn't work/can't scan channels or anything. I have owned several digital tuners since PD9 and PD has never worked with any of them.

As far as I know, CBR with MPEG2 has never worked correctly. The results of PD15 720p set at CBR still produces a file with VBR.
Reproduced same file using CVBR and I get the exact same results. Same file size, etc. CBR just doesn't work at all.

I would like to see more choices in the Produce Custom Profile Dialog box. I still have older smart TV and DVD player that doesn't handle variable FRAME rate well. I would like to see more control.
Constant Frame Rate
Constant Bit Rate
Custom GOP Pattern
MP4 encoder level (High/Main/Baseline @3 to 5.2)
Option for fast decode for web hosting
5.1 audio with MP4
PD has always been very fast at rendering, but has very limited options.

I've noticed the forum being reeeeally slow lately and when it first appears on my display, is not properly formatted (Firefox 53). Only a second later, the forum display corrects itself. Just clicking on 'new topic' seemed to takes 15-20 seconds. I have 60Mbpis cable internet and I don't have this issues with any other site.

This problem comes and goes. If I record a 1.5 hour movie off the air on my USB TV Stick (VBR), SVRT usually works fantastic.
If I record more than, say, 2 hours, then PD splits the long movie file in to two "clips" on import. And that's when SVRT has problems.
I use a network attached TV Tuner and PD15 has all kinds of issues with my HDTV recordings. Cyberlink support told me they were copy protected which in fact I know they are not. Other software converts the files. Most of my files have multiple audio streams and multiple closed caption streams. Just don't think PD15 handles them well.
It's odd that PD15 would split a file that it has captured unless it is trying to 'detect scenes'. If it was doing that, there should be more than just two.

That notebook should work fine. Are you editing 1080 video or 4K? Are you adding special effects or transitions? These are a few things that can cause PREVIEW of editing to not be perfect. However, the slow down does not affect the final output. I have owned many video editors and none of them had perfect preview when doing some serious editing.
PD15 has some issues editing footage from certain drones. There could be tons of reasons that are file or software related.

Where can i find the option that says 'Enable OpenCL' ..?
i cannot open NVIDIA configuration, i don't know why..?
From the main screen, click on the little icon that looks like a gear beside the aspect ratio. That is Perferences. Click on Hardware Acceleration and on the right you should see: Enable OpenCL and Enable Hardware Decoding. From what I understand, these settings only affect editing like transitions and FX. There is also a setting in Produce when you get ready to render a file.
Does your notebook have nVidia optimus or MSHybrid technology? If you saw 'Enable Cuda', it probably doesn't but could check. This is where the notebook boots with the Intel iGPU. Then it is up to the software to recognize the GTX1060.

- preferences : enable HD video processing (shadow file) ?
- preferences : enable NVIDIA CUDA technology..
Depending on your hard drive, you may not need shadow files. That features creates lower resolution files from HD video so editing is quicker. I have a similiar notebook with 7700HQ/GTX1060 with M.2 SSD boot drive and don't need shadow files. If your boot drive is 5400rpm, you might need shadow files. Depends on your patience.
Do you have the latest nVidia mobile driver? I have GTX1060 on my desktop and notebook. My option says 'Enable OpenCL'. Either way, that allows PD15 to use the GPU for certain FX or Transitions.

Basically I'm trying to acheive very common/simple/straightforward annotations and PowerDirector seems very poorly designed for this purpose
Could use the subtitle feature, but no control of where the test goes.
Looks like the subtitle features doesn't allow black box like most TV sets have.

The 'green line' indicates that shadow files have been created for editing high definition files. These are needed for slower machines. I don't have a 4k camcorder, but I'm sure most computers would need shadow files for those.

How can I get the file to be a MPEG extension. The .tpd file cant be played on media player and such???
Sounds like you selected the DEVICE Tab. To have more choice to produce to a file, select 'Standard 2D'.

To adjust a particular clip's volume, across the entire clip, you must use the vertical slider. Go to the first frame of the clip and when you click the vertical slider it will create a key-point, raise or lower to desired volume. Go to the END of the clip and repeat.
Definitely not as easy as other vdieo editors and too many steps. Other editors, clip volume can be done from the Timeline.
