Quote The arcsoft TV tuner software was written in 2010 and hasn’t been updated. You could try recording with PD15. In the capture mode, it is the 4th icon from the left for a digital tv tuner. Recordings made here are also svrt compliant.

I had tried recording directly. Unfortunately for me, PD doesn't recognize the Diamond USB stick in the Capture Mode. (Again, that could be because I have a trimmed down version of Win7. And /or because I don't have WMC installed anymore. Maybe there's a bridge in WMC that PC hooks in to. (I will make a backup image after typing this and reinstall WMC to see if it makes a difference.)

The link you sent me links to a Remote Control. Please, what tuner are you using? That might be a Plan B for me.

That could mean that the manufacturer did not provide the drivers for the wmc, hence your previous statements about win 7. You probably don’t have drivers to allow capture with any other software. See Barry’s reply in this recent post about his TV tuner : http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/52353.page#post_box_274033 .

It looks like then that you may have limited options with that device. It does appear that you liked the arcsoft software for many years and may only recently wanted to use svrt. It may be better to wait a few more days for a possible answer before you do anything else. In this forum many users see no difference between svrt, hardware encode, and cpu encodes. I tend to agree that svrt is not really good in all cases although I prefer it.

Quote You did comment in another post I was involved in that you are aware of the windows media center use. Recordings I do are all svrt compliant.

So, to follow up: I was intrigued by the comment that OTA recordings made thru WMC are SVRT compliant. And (from another reply by tomasc) that I might be able to capture directly into PD from my USB stick.

So I spent a few days crafting a new Win7 install with WMC. (I use a product called NTLite, which allows me to slipstream KB's into a install iso - and also allows me to remove a ton of unneeded components in Windows to shrink its size and reduce malware attack surface.)

Fortunately, WMC works with my Diamond TV Wonder 750U USB stick.

Unfortunately, PD 15 does not work for digital OTA signals. I can see snow when I try analog. But PD can't find the digital part of the tuner.

One thing in favor of WMC is that Microsoft still supports the EPG. So it's a lot easier to look at the Guide and click on a movie to record a week ahead.

OTOH, my ancient TotalMedia software allows more options for recording. (In the sense that I can chose file size/quality.) Although as I've shown, some of those recordings are problematic for PD 15. I haven't done any testing just yet, but I'm guessing that WMC will produce larger files than TM did.

But TotalMedia requires Quick Time to install. (I had found a Lite version.) But I decided to not install TM (or QT) this time around.

Okay, I made my first video using a file from Windows Media Center as an import.

The first thing is that WMC uses a proprietary format (.wtv). Fortunately, PD 15 can import that.

But at first, I got a message about "multiple streams" in the file. I'm gonna guess that this is closed captioning stuff, and/or other languages.

No problem - I told PD to transcode the first stream.

So that turned it into an MPEG-2.

I cut the commercials and ran it thru SVRT for production.

Interesting, the SVRT profile turned out to be the same as with my TotalMedia files. Albeit, twice the bit rate. (As reported by Windows. MediaInfo has it a lot lower.) Still VBR.

SVRT worked fine.

So I finally tried the HQ and EP options in ArcSoft's TotalMedia software that came with my USB TV stick.

I expected HQ would work best with SVRT, since I expected less variableness in the VBR stream.

But I still got cut out commercials popping up in my SVRT produced video.

To my surprise, EP (Extended Play) worked with SVRT.

I've only tried it once - on a 2.5 hour test file.

But EP will be my recording setting for now. So if it doesn't work on future trims, I'll report back.

Power Director has never recognized digital tuners of any brand. Intel i7 4770k, 16GB, GTX1060 3GB, Two 240GB SSD, 4TB HD, Sony HDR-TD20V 3D camcorder, Sony SLT-A65VK for still images, Windows 10 Pro, 64bit

Okay. Now I'm confused because someone else here said that it did. (Like maybe a Hauppauge installed in a PCI slot?)

Even if it did work in PD, I don't see a way to schedule a TV recording.

Anway, now that I have TotolMedia and WMC working, I'm set for now.

I believe that it works with someone else’s digital tuner and mine. See the attached screenshot.

I have two digital tuners. PD does recognize the drivers, but doesn't work/can't scan channels or anything. I have owned several digital tuners since PD9 and PD has never worked with any of them.

After seeing PD15 convert my first .wtv file, and being confronted with the message about different text streams, I think that JL_JL might be on to something.

I took a closer look (using media info) at the files generated by TotalMedia. There are at least two text streams in them!

So now I hypothesise that the reason PD breaks up my recorded files into two "scenes" at the 2 hoir mark is because there's too much data in the streams. (Which I think is what JL_JL suggested.)

I can't find a way to turn off stream capture in TM. Perhaps PD could offer the option to ignore/delete streams on import?
