I am creating a marketing video for a local restaurant that has many very good customer reviews on Facebook. I captured all off the reviews, while scrolling, with a video capture program.

I would like to create the impression that there are so many good reviews that we don't have time to read all of them as they scroll by. So the video speed would start out normal at the beginning, but would get faster as the review video progressed.

I could do this by splitting the video into several parts, and increase the video speed for each part.

But, does PD13 have a way to keyframe video speed ? I couldn't find it. Or a better way to transition the video speed faster and faster ?

Thanks
I like videos. I like to shoot videos, modify them, along with photos, convert a series of photos and video clips to a final video with PowerDirector 13.

But, I will admit that I am a novice. I've created probably 100 videos, which I believe are reasonably good. Clever, bright, funny, music, colorful - those are my goals.

I use an iPhone to take both videos and photos. I know that is just a first step, even though the iPhone is pretty good. I normally adjust each iPhone photo for more color, less shadows, more highlights.

I am beginning to realize the limitations of the iPhone. I would like to take another step upwards.

I am looking for a good camcorder in the $500 range. I've read a good bit about the Panasonic HC-V770 HD Camcorder. Everything I have read is good.

There likely are many experts on this forum who have $3,000+ (++ ?) camera systems. I don't want or need that now.

Are there recommendations here for a camcorder in the $500 range ?

Thanks much,

Clark
Great tutorial video, Tony !!!

Thanks again for all the help from optodata and ynotfish.

Hey, I really appreciate the great feedback from both of you.

I may experiment with both methods to see which works better for me.

Thanks again,

Clark
I know that I can use Power Tools to rotate a video to any degree desired.

But, I would like to be able to rotate on keyframes. I don't see a way to do that, but possibly I'm wrong.

I would like to rotate a video segment, with it visibly rotating 90 degrees at the timing I desire.

I've searched but not found anything.

Thanks,

Clark
OK, SUBST is working fine. On both computers.

I had also posted this question on the BoxSync forum. Someone there offered a much more simple solution.

Duhhh!!!! Their suggestion was to move the BoxSync folder to the root of C: on both computers.

Much better than my solution, even though mine does work.
Thanks much for all the responses. They helped me to get my brain working better.

I think I have found an old, but elegant solution. I used the DOS command SUBST.

With SUBST, I created a new volume - Z with it, on both computers. Z on both computers now is the Box Sync directory folder.

On each computer, I had to find the location of the individual files by Browsing, and save the PDS file back into Z under the same new name. I now can quickly switch back and forth from work computer to home computer, and don't have to go looking for the image/video files.

I use LogMeIn to access my home computer from work, and verified that this is working fine from both computers.

Thanks !!!

Clark
Yes, thanks. I use that " browse" to find the files. But I have to do that for every subfolder that has the files.

I was looking for a quicker way.

Hmmm....

I just tried that, without success.

I last saved the PDS file on my home computer, and now opened it from my work computer.

The options that PD13 gave me are "Browse", "Ignore", and "Ignore All".

The only one that makes sense is "Browse". When I do that, I then have to browse for every subfolder. PD13 does not reset to that folder structure for all subfolders, for me.

Yes, the same folder structure exists from the BoxSync folder down.

Thanks for you help, but
I create videos from my home computer and my work computer. I use a BoxSync on-line folder to store all my image/video files, so that I can access those files from either computer.

This works well, except for one thing - My home computer has my username as Clark. My office computer has my username as CJohn.

Therefore, the BoxSync folder resides in a different place on both computers -- C:\Users\Clark\BoxSync\ProjectA\ for example, and in the other replace "Clark" with "CJohn".

I have several subfolders for each project within ProjectA, for example. Yes, I can access the image/video files by opening each subfolder directory when I launch the PDS file. But that is sort of a pain to tell PD13 to look in a different subfolder than when I last saved the PDS file.

Is there a way to tell either Windows or PD13 to look for ALL subfolders in a different place. I cannot use the assign Drive letter command of Windows, because there is no drive number assigned to a BoxSync folder.

Any thoughts ? Thanks,

Clark
You properly delete the opening video in Menu Designer with the "Delete Menu Opening" while editing the "Root" menu page.

Thanks much. That did work.

But, another question, please. Does it actually delete the video, or just not include it ?

My original quest was to transfer a Menu Template via Cyberlink Cloud, but Cloud does not like videos in templates. I could find no way to transfer this template via Cloud , since I could not truly delete the video from the Template. With Tony's help, I then manually transferred the Menu Template to another computer by copying the proper 3.0 subfolder over.

I don't think that unchecking "Include Menu Opening Video" actually deletes the video, based on a couple of tests, including the fact that rechecking it brings back the same video.

Admittedly, this now is mostly an academic question since I can remove the opening video by unchecking, as you said, and then can add a "First Play Video" instead. If I ever do want a different Menu Opening video, I can attach a new one, and re-check.

But back to the original goal of copying a Menu Template (with Opening Video), I believe the only way to do that is to manually move/copy the proper folder --- since I am cannot truly delete the video via a PD13 menu.

I hope I didn't confuse you, as much as I am confused.

Thanks,

Clark
Quote:
All you need to do is go to C:\Users\UserName\Documents\CyberLink\Custom Menus\3.0 and locate the folder containg the menu in question. It'll be named "Menu_123" or similar. Transfer that whole folder to a USB drive, take the stick to your other PC and copy it to the corresponding folder.

Cheers - Tony

Tony,

As I said earlier, that procedure did work.

Then, today, I determined that I wanted to remove the video entirely from the Menu Template, and then include that same video as a "First Play Video" instead of in the Menu itself. Even though there apparently is no way to remove a video from a template once it has been included, I thought I would "out-smart" PD13 and manually remove the video from the 3.0 directory.

In 3.0, I found 9 (Nine !!) videos that were apparently 3 copies each of three different versions that I had included in the Menu Template before. 9, not one. Oh well, so I "hid" all 9 by placing them in sub-directories, so that PD13 could not find them.

But PD13 thwarted me anyway. It could not find the videos, but instead put up a blank screen for I guess the same amount of time as the video, while playing the Background Music file.

I have no choice but to reconstruct the Menu Template, without a video.

FYI-ing...

Clark
Thanks for the reply...

Maybe I did dream this "feature".

I did read your link, and found more, on Color Director, regarding "Intelligent Motion Tracking". Looks that will replace color in a moving object, but not replace a masked part of a moving object with another masked area.
Did I read this, or did I imagine it ?

Does PowerDirector 13 have a somewhat automated way to replace the face of a person in a video ? If I have a new face, in PNG format, can I mask the existing face of a person in a video, and replace it with the PNG face, throughout the video ?

I did that yesterday, using Keyframes by key-framing the Position of the PNG face over the face of the moving person many times. That was sorta OK, for crude purposes.

But it sure seems that I read "somewhere" that PowerDirector has a built-in tool to do that.

Thanks,

Clark
Success !!!

That procedure worked like a charm. I use LogMeIn to synch my 3 computers. So, with remote access, I copied the proper "3.0" subfolder to my synch directory on that computer, it then automatically transferred to this computer, and I then copied the folder to this local computer.

The folder's name was "Menu_004" . I guess if there had already been a "Menu_004" on this computer, I would have manually renamed one of them, since apparently (??) PD reads the contents of each folder to determine the proper, visible Template name.

It's a wee bit of a kludge, but it does work.

Again, thanks for the help, Tony.

Clark

Thanks again, Tony...

I had seen those folders in "3.0", and felt them to be associated with the Custom Templates I had created. However, I didn't know if there was a "look-up" table somewhere else that translated each folder's name into a Menu Template name. But apparently, PD just interprets "on-the-fly" each sub-folder within "3.0", giving it the proper name within the Templates ?

That's cool. I can do that. I'll report back with success.

Clark
Probably so then, since by default they are on unless you turned them off.

Yeah, I just looked in the "ShadowEditFiles" Folder, and see 3 GB of old stuff there. I need to keep my eye on that, or Auto-Delete on lower number of days.

So I guess the external portable drive can work fine then with no issues.

There are no performance problems right now, even though I had major ones last week. Yes, I'm a "lot smarter" about a few things, but no smarter about why my PD system slowed down to a hesitating crawl last week.

I've asked a lot of questions the last few days, and have received many good answers. Thanks much for your help, because I now have two more questions -- ones for which I have searched for answers but not found.

I created a very complex template, a detailed Menu, that has a video as its opening. I want to use that template on another computer. So, I tried to upload it to the Cyberlink Cloud. I got a message saying "Can't upload a template to cloud that has a video in it." Hmmm...

So, I thought I would delete the video from the Menu template, save it under a different name, and again upload to Cyberlink Cloud, thinking I would add back the video when I used the Menu template on the other computer. But I don't see a way to delete the Opening video to a Menu, once I put one in. I can switch the background image, no problem, but cannot delete the Opening Video. Unless, of course, I'm making a mistake. As strange as that may seem, that may be possible.

Question 1
How do you delete the Opening Video from a Menu template ?

Question 2
And maybe a better question is this --- How do I save a Menu template (one that has a video in it) as a single file that I can locate and then copy to a different computer. I don't want to "Share" it, just use it myself on a different computer.

Thanks again,

Clark
>> Do you by chance use PD shadow file concept?

Probably not. Since I don't know what that is... :

I'll hold off on uploading photos of timeline, etc, and continue to experiment for a while. At this moment, I am back on my work computer, running PD from the WD, with no performance problems.

The problem last week was that every action that I took in PD just "took forever". If I tried to move a button, nothing happened for a minute or two, until the button finally moved. Other actions performed the same way - stuck, not moving, and then finally a result.

When I copied the PDS file to my computer, PD immediately started working fine.

I had wondered about where the library files were read - if PD looked into the directory first where the PDS file was stored. Based on your comment, that answer is "no", since the file locations are hard-coded and not relative locations.

Clark
Jeff,

I downloaded the ATTO Disk Benchmark utility, and ran it on all of my hard drives. I do have a third external USB hard drive - a Toshiba Canvio USB, which I do NOT use for PowerDirector files, but I ran the benchmark on it, for comparison purposes.

The results were roughly this, in Read Times..
Dell Internal - 150, varied a bit
WD Passport Ext - 110, fairly constant
Toshiba Ext - 65, fairly constant

I've also attached the outputs.

Based on these results, the WD Passport should have plenty of performance. I do not have any security activated on the drive. And my virus program is not scanning it.

I will try again.

Thanks much for your information.

Clark
Tony,

Thanks very much. That does help a lot, to know that the "Items" or labels can overlap into the button area. That means I can place the video chapter names directly underneath the video preview windows.

Appreciate the good info.
