Thanks guys for all the useful input - tried and checked things and nothing changed

If there had been no audio in all playback software I tried I think it would have been easier to resolve.

I reloaded drivers nothing changed - so was on the point of giving up - when out of nowhere it started working again

Probably aliens invaded the machine fingers crossed it doesnt happen again
Already tried that

The clip is working in Audio Director though
For some reason I am not getting any audio in PD16 - was working ok the other day

Other prgrams such as Windows Media Player and similar the audio on the video clips play fine

Anyone got any ideas ... before you say it the program does not have the audio muted

thanks
Quote Setting you preview is very easy.

See image.

.

excellent thank you for solving this problem for me
Quote The lagging between audio and video is a common problem if you are running a high resolution preview.

If you will lower the preview resolution to the point where the sync problem disapears, you will be much happier.
Preview does not effect the final output, which is why when you produce, you get a in sync video.

On my system, if I set the preview to "High" or lower, all problems in preview go away.

Many thanks for this I will try it tomorrow - is it easy to lower the resolution Im not sure how to
I usually have one complete video clip, and two separate clips recorded at different times when capturing my friends music band playing.

When editing and selecting which clip to use (after first audio synching them) the video playing in the main large preview window is always slightly out of synch resulting in my have to try and make educated guesses as to when to switch between clips, based on the audio track solely.

My PC is quite a reasonable specification, so I'm at a loss as to why this might be.

I would add that when I have finished the editing and it switches back to PD16 and I play it back from there prior to producing, the audio to visual synch is fine - it literally is only a problem when editing / selecting the respective clips to use in multicam
Thank you both for your input - appreciated and I have learnt something new today

See if you have any edits in the video line in addition to the fade in / out (balls), if yes, disable Enable Fad-in and Fade-out.

Do as StevenG showed, it's better because apart from applying fade in / out you can adjust the time with ease.

Hi thats the point, I cannot disable them as they are greyed out - cheers
Quote I'm not sure what you mean when you say the option was "grayed out." Are you working on the regulard timeline or in the slideshow creator or another workspace?

If you double-click the clip on your timeline, it should open in the Picture In Picture Designer, where you'll have access to keyframed animation for Opacity, which creates the fade in/out.

Hi - on the timeline, when I right click the video clip and select edit image/video option - the fade in fade out option is greyed out
I had a fade in and a fade out on the video clip, and tweaked it a little. I didn't like the revised clip so wanted to delete the fades and leave them out, however they were grayed out in the edit image menu.

How can I delete them manually

thanks
Further to my previous question on creating the video and sizes of files, today taking the advice I selected the Mpeg2 option

Produced the file, and started to play it back on my PC, and what should have been just over 4 minutes had a file created for well over one hour.

Undeterred, I tried again this time selecting the entire range of the video, before going to the Produce tab -- yet again though the file created was for well over an hour

Any ideas anyone ?

thanks
Andrew
Quote Hatti makes an important point you should note.

If you make a DVD with AVCHD or high-definition video on it, it will ONLY be playable on BluRay disc players.

If you want to create a disc that is playable on DVD players, your only option is 720x480 (or 720x576 PAL) standard definition video. There is no such thing as a high resolution DVD that plays on DVD players.

So for a dvd to go in a dvd player, it will be essentially mpeg 2 format is that what you are saying.

What about saving as an MP4 file in a higher resolution and using an external dvd mastering program to create a DVD with ?

thanks to both of you for the replies
I have a short 5 minute video of music clips I need to burn to a single sided DVD.

What would be the best recommended resolution to burn at - as I'm finding using some of the higher ones in the Production area is pushing the dvd to its limits and have to keep trimming clips slightly
Quote I have PiP Designer open and loaded with a library clip of a film strip moving.

Is it possible to modify this and add text to the clip ?

Have been looking at all the options available and can see nothing that I can use

thanks
Andrew

Just had an inspiration and managed to work this out

By adding a separate text box to the timeline under the clip

Anyone ??

thanks
I have just purchased the DIrector Suite which has given me access to PowerDirector 16 from my previous PD15, as well as the various other updates to progs in the suite

I have 2 questions

  1. Can I uninstall safely the old versions of all the programs that came with the old suite ?

2. I notice when right clicking on a film strip, and getting the Video / Image edit menu that Photo Director is greyed out and cannot be accessed. This happens if the item clicked is a film, or a still image.

It is installed however in the new suite of programs just purchased. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong

thanks
Andrew
Quote I'm embarrassed that some of the tutorials are awkward and rough. Wish we'd had audio ducking earlier. Hopefully I'll be able to suppliment those lessons with better guidelines as I interact with seasoned editors on this forum.

Always learning,
Jim

Quote Is there anyway of multi trimming an audio track where it has not been merged to the main video yet ?
Yes, if you use a real audio editor.

Audio Director, WaveEditor, Audacity, or other audio editor. PowerDirector is not an audio editor, its focus is on Video.

I linked from Photo Director across to Audio Director and could not see a way to multi trim hence going back to the source program which was being used and asking the question
Is there anyway of multi trimming an audio track where it has not been merged to the main video yet ?

Quote Yes, as I said "sync and level issues aside" smile. Personally I would mix and balance outside PDR.

Am I right in thinking that I could possibly export both Audio files to say Wave Director and merge there and send resultant file back to PD ?

Just found a very quick and easy way to adjust the level of the background music audio clip the following link was the solution
