Yes, as I said "sync and level issues aside" . Personally I would mix and balance outside PDR.
Am I right in thinking that I could possibly export both Audio files to say Wave Director and merge there and send resultant file back to PD ?
Just found a very quick and easy way to adjust the level of the background music audio clip the following link was the solution

Any sync and level issues aside, just add your second wav file to another audio timeline.
Thanks for the reply
I just tried this but what I had was the music drowning the speech in the section of video where I eventually overlaid it, so I guess I am almost there, just need to work out how to reduce the music level in the background when the speaking clip kicks in
regards and thanks again.

Ive been using a Zoom q8 to capture my band recordings and when i go to edit them in Powerdirector 15 there is no audio in the library or in the preview/edit mode. The audio can be heard on multiple other programs. ive tried all settings and such, and realized "extract audio" doesnt even show up while the file is in the library. Im a bit confused because i make videos and post them to youtube without editing them in this software all the time with no audio issues. when i tried to produce my edited movie it had no audio on the finished product. Help would be appreciated.
Im trying to make an enitre video of the performance instead of 20 minutes per video.
I'm a total novice at this myself, and had a similar issue when merging audio recorded on a zoom H4N pro recorder, with video shot on a camcorder.
Had the 2 files on the timeline, synched and produced...no sound in the output -- daft thing was I had forgot to tick the timeline for the replacement audio so it had been ignored, and of course the audio from the video original recording had been removed once synched.
When I was initially researching the problem before I found my daft simple mistake /solution, I came across someone saying that they solved a similar problem by ensuring the audio recorded was in wav format rather than mp3
Dont know if this is of any relevance to you, but thought would mention it just incase

I know how to record a voice over onto a video clip, but cannot work out how to add a wav. file with the words already recorded on top of a music video
Words.wav onto music.wav, so I can hear the words and have the music in the background
Can someone help please
thanks

thanks Hatti it was your first response which convinced me I was on the right path to what was needed - just not in the right place

What an idiot I am......I had dragged the original effect onto the screen and not noticed it as NOT being in one of the Text timeline lines !!!
Redragged it to there and it now works
Thats a relief

Hi Hatti
Thanks for the quick response - yes that was what I had been trying
It doesn't matter how far to the right I drag the effect edge of box (when hovering the cursor over it, for example it shows 10 seconds as the length of the clip)
Yet when I play the clip regardless of that the text is gone after the same amount of time
best wishes
Andrew

I've managed to get myself totally confused on this one
One of the built in text effects, fades away to the video after overlaying it for about 2 seconds
I cannot work out how to get the text overlay to stay onscreen over the top of the video for about 8 seconds
Help please !!
regards
Andrew

Hi - Im still a newbie to all of this and have a couple of questions
(1)
I recorded my friends music gig recently in one continuous recording.
I then multi trimmed the clip down to just 4 songs, so on the timeline I have 4 segments each containing video and sound.
Is there anyway of naming each segment individually for easy reference - at the moment they all show the original video clip name / number which applies to all of them
(2)
Is there a simple way of producing each of these 4 songs as an individual video and also still retaining the collective video option for production
thanks in hope
