Hi Team,
So I followed the post to find the "Background Images", but how do you now create a permanent folder under Media Content , Colour Boards etc called "Background Images" to hold the images permanently so they are available every time you open a new project.
I have managed to create a "folder/tag" under the Media Content etc, and imported the images which does populate the "Media Content" folder and the newly created "folder/tag". But I can't seem to make it a default setting for the program. The images need to be reloaded every time you start open the program again or start a new project.

The best free S/W I have used that would/could do facial recognition was Google Picassa, sadly just another Google product that got dropped.

I'm running PD19 and have a similar but different question (thread loan). I have two HD16:9 videos taken of a game of football from two side by side identical cameras. Each camera records one half of the pitch with a little overlap. I want to join (merge) the videos creating a 32:9 ultra wide video and then create a 16:9 window which follows the ball/play (which can be manual). Thoughts ? Obviously not related directly to PD19 but an interesting question.

I love new software. The short project I opened initially in PD19 from the menu "File/Recent Projects". It looked and felt exactly as it should have. Subsequently as I was exploring PD19 I opened the "Express Projects" menu, and found the project listed there, so I opened it from there, this is the view that gives me the grey bar. Opening the project from "File/Recent Projects" is OK.
Just not expected behaviour as I didn't know that would be the case.

I have a collection of short as in 30-90 second clips of my granddaughter which I have been compiling into an annual video for Xmas. Sentimental I know. I built the project initially in PD18 where it diplays the usual behaviour, on the timeline you can see the clips and transitions. I opened the project in PD19 it opens OK, previews OK, however the timeline does not show the individual clips and transitions it is simply a grey bar extending for the duration of the video with the first frame at the beginning.
This is obviously by design as I remember references to projects created in PD19 being unusable in PD18, just unexpected the other way around. It's easy enough to recreate as it's only a short video so I am not concerned just faintly amused.

Interesting thread. I haven't tried producing anything in PD 19 but thought I'd take a look at the performance issue identified. Currently I have both PD18 and PD19 running on my desktop.
Note this is a non scientific post..
PD19
1. I created a simple video on the timeline as suggested in the thread Skateboard 1, 2, 3, replicated 5 times to give a simple video about 3 mins long. Added a default scrolling title at the beginning. Tried to preview it, it was very slow as in unwatchable in the preview, so I altered the preview resolution from the default to a lower resolution, the clip previewed OK.
2. Tried to produce the clip as an 1920 x 1080 25fps MP4, the production was incredibly slow, the CPU was at approx 90% and the GPU pretty close to 0.
Not what I expected from my desktop. I then repeated the excercise with PD18..
PD18
- Once again I created a simple video on the timeline using Skateboard replicated a number of times to give a simple video about 3 mins long. Added a default scrolling title at the beginning. It previewed OK in a higher resolution than PD19.
2. Tried to produce the clip as an 1920 x 1080 25fps MP4, the production was fast as expected and have previously experienced, the CPU was at approx 1-2% and the GPU pretty close to 80%.
Given this experience I doubt that I would use PD19 to produce any video. Has anybody represented this issue to Cyberlink as it is either a bug or a configuration issue. ?

I have a simple non technical question that somebody may have an answer for. I have recently purchased an upgrade from PD 18 to PD 19. I installed the first file (PD19 upgrade) and then started the second file, in the downloaded order. The program advised me that the content pack was already loaded and did I want to unistall before reinstalling. I have gone through this process religiously in the past because I believed there was a difference but today I declined. I stopped the upgrade at that point and did not proceed, this as I said is not a technical question, but more a WTF question.
My question is should I uninstall and reinstall the content packs that the system tells me are already loaded, or is there no difference in the packs distributed in the 13 file list with PD19 from those previously distributed with PD18 or PD17.
Note: I accept that there may be additional packs that are not currently loaded in the 13 file list.

I can understand the OPs question and can relate to the frustration inbuilt in the way Cyberlink distribute new releases ie as a series of individually installed files rather than as a composite file/installer containing everything previously released as part of the version you are upgrading to. I swapped a machine (for a newer and faster machiner) but I hadn't realised that the version of the software that I installed did not include many of the "packs" installed on the old machine which had been subjected to a number of Power Director upgrades. None were purchased specials, simply packs that had been distributed at the time the software was upgraded. What a bore. I spent some time trying to recreate the old machines build I failed, and I live without some elements. To put it crudely its a bit like Installing Word and then having to install "Format", "Print, and the individual elements, and also having to find them.

prevaljo's title can run okay on a different computer. See the attached.
It runs but if you look closely you can see the slight stutter in your clip. Which is all I was pointing out. The produced video doesn't have the stutter/lag issue so it's not a major issue but something you may notice and not understand as you put together a project.

I agree that the video is extremely simple, but in reality what you're asking PD to do requires more computational power than your system can work through in real-time.
Even though you're "only" enlarging a title, PD has to create every pixel of that title, smooth the edges (use anti-aliasing) and then enlarge the entire text block by a certain percentage each frame, When the title becomes larger than the screen, it still has to process the entire block of text and it also has calculate where the visible content is and smooth all the edges and try to do all of those steps 25 times each second to give you a smooth preview.
When you add a border, I imagine that would at least double the work that needs to be done for each frame since the borders (with their additional shadowing and ant-ialiasing needs) are more complicated than simple block characters.
I'm not saying there isn't an issue here, only that appreciating how much work is involved may help with managing expectations. One interesting thing is that if I bring up Task Manager to check the CPU and GPU loads, neither gets above 50% even when the preview is stalled, so there may be another issue involved that's causing more of a slowdown.
I will add this to my open support ticket.
One last thing - your DxDiag results show lots of crashes of your radeon software, so you may want to do some troubleshooting to see what's going on. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling, or get someone from tech support to diagnose it as it's such a new machine.
Thanks for this, but because a produced video doesn't exhibit the issue and because by reducing the preview quality (not by much I agree) the preview doesn't exhibit the issue, I raised it more out of interest than an "Oh my god it doesn't work" moment.
I am not hugely happy with the Radeon graphics card in my system but it hasn't/doesn't show any signs of distress, but I will take a look.
Cheers

Yes, it shows the same problem on my system, but the slowdown only starts at the end where the fade transition is. Removing the fade helped as did reducing the preview resolution, but the biggest improvement came when I unchecked the Border setting in Title Designer.
Can you confirm that unchecking that box gives you a full speed preview?
Removing the text border does infact get rid of the stutter/lag. But it shouldn't have this effect on a simple piece of video.

There have been cases when PD had difficulty with titles (including one just a couple days ago), and usually there was (or will be) a patch issued to address the problem. There was also at least one problem with titles that slowed down my brand new i9-9900K to a crawl that didn't ever get resolved...
Since you have a test project ready, could you please use Pack Project Materials under PD's File menu and upload the project to a folder on OneDrive or Google Drive and paste a shareable link to it here?
Getting OP's project in the first linked post was crucial in replicating and understanding the problem, and having your project will help determine what the issue is.
.
Here is my very small project https://www.dropbox.com/s/h6cfervrsvpat2s/Zoom%20Stutter.pds?dl=0 .
It would be interesting to know if it exhibits the same issues.
Cheers

I got exactly the same problem, I am using PD14.
So I used my other laptop and bought PD18 and it went smoothly.
Maybe it's like Apple, giving lagging to old versions.
I signed up to this forum for the 1st time especially to complain about this issue.....
I'm runnng PD 18 on Win 10, I can't say I noticed lag in the preview window prior to this week (which would have been after a Windows update). I have an issue with an intro text title over 12 tracks of video and JPGs. I put it down to load on the system. But as usual it's not that simple.
To break down and try to identify the cause:
I started a new project, a simple text title 10 sec long, with "Football Team Z" in 36 pt Impact, Orange text, with a 2pixel black border.
I set keyframes for position and size at 2 secs. I then set keyframes at the 10 sec point and expanded the image/text size using the Obect Settings scale width and height to 10. I then put a 2 sec fade out at the end of the text. The intention being in the final video the text would appear to grow over the video behind and then fade. Simple concept but I'm a noobie.
With the preview window set to HD the clip plays OK up until the last 25% at which time it I would say it stutters to the end of the clip. - Not something I would have expected with such a simple video. If I remove the Border around the text the clip plays perfectly.
If I set the Preview Quality to High the clip with the black border plays without issue.
I would have expected PD18 and my desktop (less than 3mnths old) to have handled a simple task like this without any issue.

Thanks, this is makes the process much simpler, (read less laborious) by setting a number of keyframes in one action it is a big improvement over individual setting.

I use PD to create short videos for our local youth football team. I have advanced (only just) from a simple text title intro to a better intro where I use JPGs of the team members that start off in the centre of the frame small, enlarge and are then repositioned in the frame, each team member moving sequentially and expanding to a different position in the frame until the whole team are displayed on screen. I can do this manually. Each JPG occupies a seperate video track and has a number of keyframes for size and position set. The team changes every week and I would like to simply replace the JPG without having to set the keyframes for every JPG every time. Is there an easy way to simply replace the JPG without having to manually set the keyframes.

OK so I have continued to pursue my non understanding of my problem. I have now managed to "Redeem" my 100Gig storage on the Cyberlink Cloud and voila I have fewer issues, (I tried repeatedly yesterday and could not do it). Having put in my email address and password into the box when asked everything magically seems to improve. I now have folders under the tab marked "My Shared Media to Other Devices".
The app doesn't see them yet but thats another problem that I will muddle through.
The important point being that to share content on your local network you appear to need a Cloud Account even though you don't intend to use it. Which leads to the question what happens when my free one year trial runs out ??
I have now resolved the bumbling learner issues I struggled through. Note to self - must try harder or avoid new software.....

Or my understanding of the program. I have now worked out a few more things but I am obviously a slow learner.
1. I added a folder in the Media Library for Video.
2. I right clicked the Media folder and clicked "Share on local home network".
3. I filled in my email address and password to log into my account and clicked OK.
The next step I missed because of the subtlety.
4. I checked under the tab marked "My Shared Media to Other Devices". There are no files or folders listed which presumeably is why I cannot see anything from the mobile app.
Now to follow that problem up...

That clarifies a number of things for me, obviously I went astray with the Cloud Storage message. So if as implied after I click "Share on local home network" the media library is now shared the next question has to be why isn't it visible in the Power Player app, I have The Cloud, This Device and a "looking for Media shared in Power Play on the LAN" which doesn't find anything. So I obviously have an issue with the app or teh pc or the network.

It does sound frutrating, but it works for most people, so...and you didn't answer my specific question, so I can't help based on your feedback. Bottom line is stick with PowerDVD 19, because version 20 won't fix something that's not broken for anyone else.
Dave
Sorry Dave, am having to share this computer due to lockdown restrictions and I didn't fully read your response. As I said I couldn't get PowerDVD 19 to go so I abandoned it.
As far as my exact setup is concerned.
My computer is connected to my wireless router (Synology AC1900) over Ethernet. I have tried connecting the Chromecast over WiFi and over Ethernet the behaviour is identical. Its hard to know where to or what to do next.
My computer can play video files to the Chromecast using VLC and YouTube can play as well with no problem so it's frustrating. All the mobile devices in my house can play streaming video (Netflix, Neon, Disney etc) to the Chromecast without issue.

Hi,
I have been playing my movies to my smart TV with chromecast with no problems with Powerdvd 19, so I don't think there is any issue with it in the program.
What is the exact setup you are using? Is your computer and Chromecast on WiFi, or connected via a cable?
Dave
I have tried playing from PowerDVD 19 to a Chromecast:
1. From a Win 7 desktop
2. From a brand new out of the box Win 10 desktop
3. Reinstalled on the Win 10 box - guided by Cyberlink Support
All to no avail.
There are three scenarios
1. PowerDVD 19 cannot find the Chromecast on the network. ie there is no option to Play To
2. It can find the Chromecast in Play To it starts to try and play, you get the rotating starburst, then it stops and the error message says it can't find the Chromecast.
3. Sometimes it plays, then I buy a Lotto ticket.
