Quote I upgraded PowerDVD 14 to PowerDVD 17 last night. The upgrade left both versions intact. I have some video files saved to my harddrive that I normally start playing by double-clicking on the VIDEO_TS.IFO file. PowerDVD 14 will still open and start playing the video, but PowerDVD 17 does nothing. Even if I right-click and select "open with PowerDVD 17", it will not open and start playing the video. No error message, just nothing happens. PowerDVD 17 will play DVD/BDs inserted in the optical drive.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong? Some sort of conflict during the upgrade?

New PowerDVD version places the disc folder playback entry on the playback control bar (at the bottom of movie disc playback page).
No longer support to launch IFO file solely to open disc folder playback.

You can find a folder icon button there to play your disc folder.

---The above information is from CyberLink support---

I think the IFO file is video disc info file for disc folder playback and identification.

If it is solely stored at any folder or the folder is not a complete video disc folder, your double-clicking launching would cause more compatibility or disc folder recognition problems for a player.

No, "Ultra HD Blu-ray" is not on the list.

I think it is very clear that Ultra HD Blu-ray has new spec for software and hardware.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra_HD_Blu-ray
"Ultra HD Blu-ray discs are incompatible with existing Blu-ray players"

Ask LG for an official confirm or save your time to accept the fact that this drive is just a normal BD drive, but not a Ultra HD Blu-ray drive.
Quote Is there every going to be a lift on not allowing Blu-Ray playback of optical drive Blu-Ray movies being shown through a VR head set like the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift? Obviously you guys can detect the headset software to cause it to run. Can't we just confirm that the headsets are being used, not recording equipment for copying the protected material? The first software to allow Blu-ray playback is going to win over headset owners. Is there really a need to block VR headsets with HDCP nonsense? There are plenty of workarounds that people have been using for years to copy illegally that don't involve the use of VR hardware. All we want as VR headset owners is a reputable company to back us up in enjoying the right to play content we rightfully purchased on hardware that we enjoy. Having a virtual theater to watch movies in is a great escape when you need to get away. Thank you for an official reply.

We all know the HDCP fact, and it is not invented by pdvd. How about asking htc or oculus to add HDCP on their high-end headset?
They are much more expensive than a software.
Perhaps request BD vendor to remove godamn HDCP direrctly on disc, it may sound more ideal?

By the way, "Thank you for an official reply." I think it's a user sharing forum. As a gentleman, why you "especially" ask for an "official" reply here?
Quote I have 2 monitors (non-HDR 4k monitor and HDR 4k TV) and both are connected via HDMI 2.0 cables from GeForce GTX 1060. If I play a video with PowerDVD 17, both of my monitors get black screen and I have to unplug-plug the monitor to get the control.

Once I uncheck 'TrueTheater HDR' option in 'Advanced Enhancement' setting, it can play vide files.

(1) If one of my monitor is non-HDR, do I have to give up the HDR feature in PowerDVD 17 ?

(2) If so, is there any other merit(s) of PowerDVD 17 over PowerDVD 16 ?

I purchased PowerDVD 17 because I have HDR 4k TV connected to my PC, but if I have to disable 'TrueTheather HDR' and there is no other difference over PowerDVD 16, I want to return PowerDVD 17.

Thank you for your help.

HDR is not guaranteed by CyberLink on NVIDIA VGA currently if u read the requirements.

Quote What optical drives are supported in PowerDVD 17 for UHD BD playback?

I have Pioneer BDR-207MBK (BDXL) this optical drive are supported?

There are only two optical drives on the market at present that support Ultra HD Blu-Ray, Pioneer BDR-S11J-BK and DBR-S11J-X.

www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/News/Details.aspx?NewsId=50827

I have asked Pioneer support about support UHD BD on the BDR-207MBK. They answered me:

"As long as your computer software you are running supports this forplayback and decoding then the drive will read this information and pass italong to your software."

LG BH16NS40 is just a conventional BD drive, but NOT a UHDBD drive.
You may see the data files stored on a UHDBD by your BD drive in Windows, but it is NOT equal to suport "UHDBD".

There is no possibilities that a "Blu-ray" disc drive can playback "Ultra HD Blu-ray".
It regards not only firmware, but also "new hardware chipset" is required on disc drive to support such format.
Hence, firmware updates will not be a UHDBD solution for previous BD drive, either.

You should ask Pionner support again that a "BDR-207MBK" truly support "Ultra HD Blu-ray" movie playback?
Don't let them have any chance to fob off you with any vague answers. Ask them a "Yes/No" question directly.

The first UHD-BD drive in the world released on 2017 Q1.
Any optical device released before 2017Q1 is not possible to support UHDBD: http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/1/25/14387744/pioneer-ultra-hd-bluray-drive-4k-pc

Is the above information very clear for everyone here who wants to play UHDBD on PC?
http://www.cyberlink.com/support/faq-content.do?id=19860

r u talking about Intel ME? It's not a new technology or driver, but seems UHDBD need new version. If u are talking about SGX component, I think PowerDVD will help u auto re-install like visual c++ runtime.
Quote Hi

I cannot bitstream HD Audio when playing UHD Blu-ray?

I have configured PowerDVD 14 to bitstream in the settings. But when I select Dolby TrueHD or DTS MA soundtrack it does not work (no sound). If I select a lossy Dolby Digital and DTS soundtrack it is working fine (I get lossy sound as expected).

Anyone else has this problem and more importantly does anyone has this working/a solution?

Wow, a UHD BD capable PC truly exists now. Congratulations.

PC -> A/V receiver (DolbyTrueHD DTS MA decode capable) -> 4KTV setup didn't work?
All above connections needs to support HDMI 2.0a and HDCP 2.2.

Your kaby lake GPU and onboard HDMI port support DolbyTrueHD DTS MA audio passthrough?

Quote You heard it here first

http://www.kitguru.net/components/matthew-wilson/the-first-ultra-hd-blu-ray-pc-disc-drive-has-arrived/

It really, really, really wants to support Dolby atmos decoding eh?

Wonder what all the hubhub is about. Bought a LG16NS40 over 6 month ago, it will read my commercial UHD BD discs but of course cannot not decode the video. The PDVD 16 with upgrade or more likely PDVD 17 should do it with the correct GPU specs like GTX960.

Eugene

I think/guess all GPUs released before 2017 won't have the possibility to play UHD BD. It has nothing to do with GPU capability but compatibility.

HEVC 10bit decode, HDR, and new UHD BD protection all matters.

Purchase a set top UHD BD TV player is always the easiest way to play back it.

Correct me if anything wrong.

Quote This is a users forum and no one is a cyberlink employee with inside information. See this post and let us know if your present BD drive can read a UHD BD: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=274111 .

I'm not expressly looking for an answer from them here, rather that they make an announcement that either confirms or denies/"clarifies" what they communicated to thedigitalbits as "buy now and it will be unlocked" is a very different thing that what they have communicated so far "versions supporting UHD will be available in early 2017".

Also, I've never been part of a software company where the folks weren't reviewing the forums. We weren't allowed to reply with any non-public information but we always had people reviewing them.

As for the drive, I'm not purchasing a new one until we have confirmation that existing ones which can read the discs are suported given the belief that they may have to have specific security-specific hardware support. In the meantime I still have my HDDVD supported drive.. ;

Per Billy7's news, the "1st" UHD BD drive just came out by Pioneer. New drive with a PowerDVD OEM copy.
Cyberlink gave this news to Bill?? Really?? It sounds you are the insider of the trade.
http://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my-two-cents/010516_1530

"Will be unlocked in weeks/months ahead" is such a tricky description.
For me, it means nothing will happen in weeks, but definitely more months.
I think PowerDVD does support NV cards.
But, for dual graphic PC, the VGA driver or PC should be the dominant to control the program to run with NV GPU or integrated GPU.

I don't understand that the NV card or the laptop doesn't let PD run with NV, but a player software can deal with it forcefully?
It doesn't make good sense.

Fyr, my ASUS laptop allows PowerDVD to run with NV card no matter with or w/o HDMI output.
(Intel graphic + NV graphic)
What is the display mode for your 2 monitors?

Mirror? Extended? Projection only?

Mirror mode will not pass HDCP.
Quote HI

I would like to enjoy surround sound from DTS-HD MA / DOLBY TRUE HD when staying in hotels.

If i buy a pair of gaming oriented headphones like the logitech G633, can i decode the HD Bluray Tracks tracks into LPCM 5.1/7.1 and send those over the USB dongle.

Those headphones are labeled as : 7.1 Dolby® or DTS Headphone:X Surround Sound and i don't get if this works only by enhencing stereo input or if i can send the decoded 7.1 LPCM to it.

Best Regards

If your USB headphone can decode Dolby/DTS audio, perhaps you can give it a shot.

I have no idea if the label Logitch marked is telling us the headphone supports the Dolby/DTS decodng or not.
To get the fact, you may need to ask Logitech.

Per my personal experience, "over USB dongle" may fail the full set 5.1/7.1 audio LPCM output when playing protected BD movie. It has chance to let PowerDVD downmix to stereo.

Quote I love the way Power DVD displays the thumbnails of your files on a hard disk. Sometimes it is not on a good poster frame so you can see what the content of the video is. Is there a way to change this and move to a more revealing scene? Thanks

I just found there is a "custom cover art" option for movie titles to switch cover in movie library.
But, in video library, there is no options to change video thumbnail.

Quote Greetings.

I've been having trouble getting audio to play since purchasing the software. I have a soundcard installed (X-Fi Titanium HD), but I'm just using S/PDIF output on it. The on-board realtek system is disabled at the BIOS level and does not appear in the device manager at all.

I've been using this setup for quite some time, running everything from other media players, games, and normal system audio. Any time the DAC engages, there is a relay that clicks. It will remain tripped so long as the DAC senses that a program is ready to send audio. For example, if I hit play on a media player, it will trip, and when I hit pause, it will remain on, ready to play the moment I unpause. If I hit STOP, it will stop and the relay will disengage.

Now.. that's all relevant because PowerDVD 16 Ultra will trip that relay, but no signal is sent. Furthermore, it seems that so long as anything at all is playing PowerDVD, it hijacks the entire audio output stream and NOTHING else will play. This is not a behavior I want. I cannot seem to find a setting to change this.

Signal path is set up as Software -> X-Fi S/PDIF optical output -> Schiit Audio Bifrost Multibit -> external power amplifier -> Speakers. Obviously the amplifier is getting nothing. It was built in the 70s and has no digital inputs, so it's not really relevant.

Hi

It's a little bit complicated now. There are some check points fyi.

1. Do you turn on the audio exclusive mode in PowerDVD audio setting? Check it by turn off exclusive audio mode.
2. Can you select S/PDIF output in PowerDVD audio setting?
3. What files or video format did you play in PowerDVD?
4. Does Your DAC support Dolby DTS decode at hardware level?

The answers for no.2 to 4 will assist their support to help you.
I guess PDVDLaunchPolicy.exe is PDVDLP.exe.

Hi DellaDog,

It seems u already know the command arguments, no offense, perhaps u can try it with a trial version and share the result to others. It would be grateful for sharing.
What's the AMP you connected?
Is the HD audio compatibility properly recognized by Windows?
http://wiki.xbmc.org/images/2/25/Output_Properties_-_Supported_Formats.jpg

Check it "during" the BD playback.
HW decode cannot enable good? -> Update VGA driver.
Did you change NV VGA ever?
How about remove VGA driver completely and fresh install latest version?

Are you talking about Media Casting or DLNA streaming??
They are technically different for video playback.

For media casting, I think PowerDVD 16 only supports Chromecast, Apple TV, and Roku currently. TrueTheater can be applied during Media Casting in my test.
