This may be an ignorance-in-terminology thing on my part since I am still a beginning user, but what is the difference between

1) applying fx to my clip individually

2) having fx on fx-tracks.

that you're saying?

Because for instance, it's a blur, about which I am talking, as the fx I've put 5 of, in this project, in accordance with a video that this forum-member @StevenG made here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzKTcbPGLUM where he explained a way to do a "blur" for content in a video with the "Mosaic" effect. And so that is what I did. He also says there is a "Manual way" and an "Automatic way", with doing the blurring; and what I'm doing here is in accordance with what he calls the "Manual" way, where I use the "Mosaic" fx, use a Mask and whatnot, where I set up the a specific area where the blur(s) land/lands. But as I said, I've got several pieces of text/names and stuff, thorughout this particular clip, that are located on different areas on the page (I did a screen-cap to capture this particular clip) , and so I've needed several blurs in several spots.

Is what you mean with the "applying fx directly to a clip" different than having a specific fx-track? Like, for instance, in that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzKTcbPGLUM video I shared a moment ago, about blurring, the second method, what he called the "Automatic method", he selected the clip in its track, went to "Tools >> Motion Tracker" , and applied a Mosaic that way. This method does not use up an fx-track?

Just trying to think through the best way to accomplish this blurring of several spots in my clip.

Right now, this project consists of two video clips side-by-side. The first clip needs no blurring. But then the second clip does need several blurring, throughout several different sections of the screen, as the video progresses. But ultimately, this video project is probably going to total about 5-6 total different clips, and I can already see how 2 or 3 of those clips are all going to need different blurrings at different locations at different times, and it will likely be more than five of them--like, I'll need more than five instances of a blur effect.

So, should I just figure on this second method, which he called the "Automatic method", in that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzKTcbPGLUM video, be the way I do these blurrings, just because I may need so many?
Quote If you truly need to apply more than 5 FX at any point in your project, you should produce that section to "lock in" the edits, and then apply the next round of up to 5 FX to the newly-produced clip.

I thought about that as an idea; that's probably what I will end up doing. Thanks!
Hi all, I've got Power Director 17 Ultimate, and had just gotten to doing some "Mosaic" blurring as an fx on some fx tracks within a video I am doing. And I'm noticing my workspace is not seeming to allow me to add any more fx tracks, maybe..? I've got five fx-tracks in this project, is that the amost that the software allows?
@StevenG and @optodata , thank y'all; your answers have been very helpful.

However, have I run into a limitation of PowerDirector? I have insert five different "Mosaic" "Blur" fx tracks into my Project. And I am attempting to add more, because I need some more blurs on different parts of the video...am I limited to five fx Tracks, within my project, in PowerDirector 17?
Hi all, I'm still new to Power Director 17 and am learning a lot with these first couple of projects I have been doing; and I wanted to ask a question about how to do a certain effect on a graphical element, within a video, in my Power Director 17 work-space. For example, take a look at this brief video:

https://www.facebook.com/BBBCET/videos/355329245170372/

Notice how, at the beginning of the video, the blue "BBB" torch kinda of disintegrates/swirls. I've seen this organization do another sort of effect with the BBB logo where they have sort of a "shiny" effect on it; sort of like a white-light, goes across the surface in a diagonal manner (or whatever shape direction, doesn't have to be diagonal necessarily), in a similar manner to the effect you see on the link I just provided. How could I execute this in a graphical element within a video, on Power Director 17, a little brief "shine" on an object?

(I have no indication that these folks use Power Director 17, or anything, I just wanted to use it as an example to illustrate the type of effect I'd like to use, and then how to use it, in Power Director 17.
Ok, I kind of see. But let me say this:

1) most of the videos I will be doing will be shot from a Samsun Galaxy Note 8

2) The purpose for most of the videos I will be doing will be to be placed on YouTube

3) I noticed that with this first video I produced, I did it in .AVI format, and I am noticing that the "Screen Record" portion of my video does not really show the letters and stuff onscreen (the content of that portion of the video is such that I am surfing onlin and clicking some links, and there is various pieces of text sown there, and whatnot) . Would another file-format, besides .AVI, be better for clearly showing the text on the browser parts of my videos, such that the text on-screen at that time is more legible?

4) If MPEG-4 is better, maybe I am missing something, but my chooser when I am the "Produce" portion of my Power Director 17 is just showing "MPEG-2"..? Where's MPEG-4? If I don't care about file-size, should I always go with the larger width-setting, when there are multiple different sizes for the same resolution?

3) You can prepare you subtitles as a TXT document using a program like Notepad. When you import the TXt document into your subtitle room, the program will break each line break in your document into a separate title, which you can then sync to your video.

Thank you for all of the answers, @StevenG .

As far as this thing you mentioned about typing them up in Notepad, and importing them into my project, created a .txt file that literally just has the text

this is
a
test to see how
subtitles are
supposed
to
work.
yeah.

in it; and then when I am in my Subtitle Room in Power Director 17, right-click in the window, click "Import...", and choose this .txt file, I get an error, saying,

"There are no existing subtitles to replace. You must add blank subtitles first."

Like I said, I'm elementary, here; I'm probably missing some very basic step.
Which is higher quality, AVI or MPEG2?
Finished making a movie, and wanted to refine my knowledge to learn how to do these four basic things for future videos I produce:

1) How do I put some sort of a little "Ribbon" that could literally just be a solid rectangle, or some sort of a gradient-colored rectangle, toward the bottom of my video, that goes along the full lenth of the video and "finds the edges of the screen", such that I could place objects on top of it like a logo, or like some text, or something..? Even if it is some sort of a "bleed" horizontal ribbon that goes across the entire width of the Video, that is toward the bottom, that'd be fine. I found the "Color Boards", but couldn't quite determine how to make those be sort of shapes that exist WITHIN my video playing, instead of just being these big BLOCKS of color with a black background that really jam up against the video on the Timeline, rather than being sort of a child of and exist within the video.

2) How do I place pieces of text within the video? For example, in this video, it's an instructional video with "4 Parts" to it. So, when we get to the time in the video where I am sort of narrating and saying, "for the second part of the video, we will be talking about _________ ", how can I flash sort of a big "2" graphic on the screen, and then some sort of quick subittle for it that'll sit right there next to that big "2" graphic; and then I define for how long those sit there while I sort of am narrating that part of the video, for those seconds?

3) What's the best way for me to sort of type out subtitles for each thing that I am saying, as I am narrating the entire video, like many videos I see out on the Internet? I understand it is an undertaking and will require time and effort, but I just wanted to see what the best method is, for doing that, within Power Director 17. That is, how do I assemble the pieces of text, and show them and define within which frames of time they are on-screen, etc?

4) How do I blur little pieces of video that I have captured whenever I went to Plugins >> Screen Recorder , got a video that way as I was navigating through something on my computer, but had some sensitive information I'd like to blur out so that end-user viewers of my video cannot see this private information/sensitive information that is in the Screen-Record video I shot?

Thinking about shooting an instructional viceo where I'll use the screen-capture software I got when I just recently purchased PowerDirector 17 Ulltimate. But there are proabably going to be some on-screen things I'd like to sort of "Blur out" to hide, for security reasons, so that end-users who see my video can't see it, before I produce it. How do I do that, after I capture some video?
Just purchased PowerDirector 17 Ulltimate, and was able to naviatge to the required, official CyberLink online-download center with a password that was e-mailed to me during my purchase, to download all of the .exe files and installed them all and whatnot.

Then, launched the program and used the Serial Number that was e-mailed to me during my purchase, and it was accepted, successful, and the program launched successfully, and everything.

So I'm in Timeline mode, attempting to edit a video (and I'm trying to insert a .PNG file as logo in the corner of the video, that's all I want to do and can't seem to figure it out, by the way) , but as I am using the program, I get a prompt that suggests I update my software and whatnot. So. Cool. I click the dialogue box to do so, and I am taken to some sort of download portal that's requiring me to log-in.

But it's not seeming to take my e-mail address that I used to purcahse the software and the password that was e-mailed to me in that purchase-e-mail.

Am I missing something..? What else do I need to do in order to be able to log-in and download the update? I was able to use the login credentials to go to the *initiial* online-download location to download the 13 .exe files to make it work, but something about these credentials are not allowing me to log-in to download update(s).

..and yeah, could also use a tutorial on how to place a .PNG logo file into the bottom-right corner of a video to simply stay there as astatic image the whole time the video plays.

Thanks.

I don't know if these two questions are so beyond the software that they're beyond TOS of these forums, but:

1) can anyone recommend some specific microphones that somehow attach to iPhones and Android Smartphones (Galaxy Note family, if we can be that specific), that serve to help in getting clear audio when shooting video? Just figuted I would ask here, to my fellow video-shooters/editors, when y'all have used PowerDirector 17 Ultimate to edit video, in case anyone has ever purchase any sort of a bluetooth mic, or whatever, that goes well with smartphones; that perhaps did some noise-canceling, and just seems to help with overall audio, in accordnce with shooting video from a Smartphone..?

2) what are the legal limits on how much of a copyrighted video/audio one can legally use in a video prepared for commercial purposes? Ive heard talk that it's either 9 seconds, or 17 seconds, or something like that..?
Got it, thanks.

So I got them all installed, except this final file is a .zip file called

Bonus_BackgroundMusicTracks.zip

And it holds a directory called

Bonus_BackgroundMusicTracks

that holds a bunch of .WAV files.

Where should I put this

Bonus_BackgroundMusicTracks

directory, exactly?
Thanks, Warry.

I shut down my computer yesterday after downloading each of the .EXE files, and now, I have gone back to the e-mail I received and hit the "Download" button to be taken back to the download center to see the order they were laid out so I can follow your advice to install them in order that they are listed on that page, but it's not liking my login..? Shouldn't the log-in to the Download center be the same that I use to get int othese forums, or no..? Because I do not recall creating any sort of *other* ID when I actually completed the purchase yesterday.
So I got my download page and downloaded all 13 .EXE files for Power Director 17 Ultimate, for my Windows 10 machine.

Is there a certain order to which i need to run the install(s) of these 13 .EXE files?

Also, does a difference of a 32-bit or 64-bit machine come in anywhere, such that I need to do anything differently, or be prepared to answer a question regarding it, or anything..?
(Same, I've never used "i" anything either—and not to spark a debate [let's leave that to proper social media ]—I like it better that way [not-using "i-anything"] . )

Thanks, y'all; that makes a lot sense. Perhaps I'll sort of make it my strategy that:

1) to get video from Android devices hook up to Windows via USB, navigate file-explorer, drag'n'drop;

2) to get video from i-stuff download Dropbox app on it, log-in, upload to a directory; then log-in to Dropbox from my primary computer, download files

Thanks for talkin me through this~ I'm probably gonna be back in the near future to ask other elementary questions, when I'm in the trenches, editing. It's not like I wanna do super-extravagant stuff, but knowing me, I'm probably gonna have questions like, "Where's this-and-that tool?" , or, "Which process do you recommend for my trying to do this-and-that on this video I shot?"

God bless.
Thank y'all for the answers.

Yeah, I guess my main thing is that, these days, I'm decreasingly confident that "File Explorer" on Windows will allow me to see/Copy/Move (just overall *BROWSE*) smartphones that are plugged-in via USB, nowadays. Seems like storage-hardware has becoming increasingly blocked-off and not as easily searched/browsed/manipulated as it used to, when plugging in external storage devices.

And within that, yeah, I'm mostly concerned about being able to retrieve things from iPhone. I'll give those articles you mentioned here (https://www.drivethelife.com/windows-10/fix-iphone-not-recognized-by-windows-10-or-itunes.html) a look-see.

God bless.
Considering purchasing PowerDirector 17 Ultimate, soon, but have a question:

I'm foreseeing editing videos that are going to be shot from iPhone(s), or Android Samsung Galaxy Note (8 and newer version(s) ) .

What's the process of importing those videos to a Desktop/Laptop/Tablet, or whatever, where I will have the ability to edit them in PowerDirector 17 Ultimate? With Androids (Samsung Galaxy Note , I can assume I'll just use a DropBox app on the phone, for instance, to share the video file(s) to my DropBox, and then be able to download them onto my Desktop/Laptop/Tablet where I will have PowerDirector 17 Ultimate installed, and access them that way..? What's the process of moving videos over from an iPhone to a Windows Device, such that I could do the same thing, to edit video(s) shot on an iPhone?

And really, the primary question that really undergirds all of this is the following: Should I be able to assume that PowerDirector 17 Ultimate will be able to Import/or Open these types of videos and allow me to fully edit them, within its workspace? That is, videos shot on an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy Note (8+) ?
