We'll it probably has something to do with my timeline then since I have over 40 clips. Cyberlink has never really been that reliable in the past with big projects. I just took out the cross fades between the clips that have the continuous shooting effect and it builds now. What a waste of time though to make it work. But what can any one expect running anything in Windows =)

Tnx again for your attempt to try and reproduce. You almost need the exact project I have and the clips though to see the PD problem.
BTW, make sure you use the menu feature to apply the cross transitions to all videos. This will cause the crash every time when it hits the clip with the continuous shooting effect. If you put the fade transition manually between the clips it appears to work as well. I think there is a bug here, but you have do things in the right order to bring it out.
Thanks for your reply. Try putting a cross fade transition between the clips right before it goes into the clip with the continuous shooting effect attached. If I remove the cross fade between the clips the continuous shooting effect appears to work with no crash, but with it, the crash occurs. Let me know if you have the same effect.

Tnx.
Ok, I have identified the Bug. It's in the continuous shooting effect. I have removed all continuous shooting effects and now it appears to build without the crash. Is there away to have someone resolve this bug so I can use this effect?

Just so you know, the PD crash occurred at each clip that had the continuous shooting effect attached. There's clearly a bug in the software using this effect. Hopefully it can be resolved.

Tnx.
With the latest V11 Power Director update installed 11.0.0.3026. I have serious bug when using slow motion and special effects within my video build. When producing or even just watching the video in the timeline power director just crashes after it has run through a slow motion effect. It’s amazing how this software has so many features, but when you utilize them you end up with a system crash! I have the video hardware disabled too. I have tried everything possible other then just removing the slow motion effects to correct the problem. Has anyone else had this problem when using a lot of slow motion effects on the timeline?

Thanks.

Yeah, I already have the hardware acceleration disabled. I did this first since it was causing my video in the preview window to have a green background. I still have the crashes though and I don't have anymore hardware settings to turn off.
Hi Dafydd,

I don't think sending you a video is going to really help. The problem is just normal navigation with the patch loaded. For example, I put together a video to produce. I go to produce it under Mp4 format and wham, Crash!. So I go back and do it again and it works. Then I'm playing a video on the timeline and wham, Crash!. Load it up again and it works. I never seen any of this with the original version 9 at all. The only bug I really ever noticed was the transitions sometimes didn't work properly. I never really ever had hangs like this though.

Dafydd, you have been a big help in the past. Maybe you can me figure out what is happening here, so I don't have to reinstall the original version.

Thanks,
Robert
Thanks for the rely. I actually turned off the hardware acceleration when I first installed it to get rid of the green overlay on the video preview, so that is disabled. I still get a lot crashes though with that disabled. I don't see any of the other settings with my configuration you mentioned. I hope they make this more stable soon.

I wished I could just afford a Mac and not use this product anymore. I've been fighting issues with powerdirector for several versions now and it's getting old =)
I've been using Powerdirector 9 on Win 7 64Bit using the original install and it worked ok with some minor bugs. I just downloaded and installed the new patch 2930_GM5_Patch_VDE110516-02 and now the software just constantly hangs and crashes all the time doing just normal things editing which I never seen with the original install. Has anyone else experienced this problem with this patch on Win 7?

I wished Cyberlink would do more product assurance and testing on their service releases before sending them out. Good grief, there is some serious problems with this patch at least on my machine. I might just have to go back to the original install unless there's a work around or a new release to fix the problems with this patch.

Thanks,
Robert
Hi,

I have a 2Hr project that I'm trying to burn to a folder. However, when I start the process it only goes for about 32mins then it reports burn successful. When I look at the folder in the Video_TS folder there is only one file in the folder VTS_01_1.VOB and it has 0 bytes. Why on earth would this software say it completed successfully when it didn't. I have tried 4 times and the same result.

Has anyone had this problem before and is there some kind of work around versus having to rebuild the project?

Thanks,
Robert
Here is some Feed back on the software crashing and disappearing problem I had above. I broke the project of ~20mpg small clips into 3 seperate projects and produced 3 different mpg files, then married them all together into one project and produced and burnt the DVD I needed without the software crashing.

A couple of observations:
1) The software really struggles when you pull media into the project from other systems on a network. When you keep the media files local to where your running the software, you're better off. I believe this was one of the biggest problems I was having and that's why the software kept crashing and dissappering.
2) Big projects are not handled very well by this software. I never really have problems with small projects, but the bigger ones always result in crashing problems. This is just what I've experienced in the 100+ DVDs I've built with this package. I hope this can be resolved someday since even V6 struggled with this.

Robert
Hi Dafydd,

This morning I uninstalled and reinstalled the whole PD7 application and applied the latest 12/03 patch. The crashing problem is still there. The software either crashes with an unhandled exception error in various places in the application or the application just disappears without warning on any projects. There is really no one place that the crash occurs, It seems like it's just after using it for a bit that it eventually fails. I'm not sure what is going on. My system works fine with my other video tools like sony vegas. So is appears to be tracking PD7 with the new patch.

I installed an Nvidia 7600GT video card last week, do you know if anyone else has had problems using this video card with Powerdirector 7? I'm going back to the older release patch and use it since it appears to be more stable.

Thanks,
Robert
I build large productions and this is when I have the most problems with this software crashing. I might want to just pay more and go to a more professional product in the future. This is one of the hard errors I was getting - Unhandled exception at 0x7c9106c3 in PDR.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00360f3b.

BTW, the task bar is already set to be on top of other windows, but somehow the task bar is overlapping the PDR frame and has ever since I started using PDR 7. This is the only software that does it. So it must be PDR...

The 7.00.227C patch has a lot of problems with crashes and unhanded Win32 exceptions (2224). It countinually crashes in mulitple places while using the software. Sometimes the software will just disappear or sometimes it will report the unhandled exception 2224. Nevertheless, I wouldn't use it... I went back to the previous patch and everything appears to be working like it was with its previous problems. Anyway, I hope something else is released that is more stable then this.

BTW, it would be nice to fix the problem with the software overlapping the windows task bar when the software is maximized. This stinks since you have to always resize the app to get the timeline scroll bar to show up on the bottom. Please fix this...

Robert
Dafydd,

Thanks for your kind words. She really has a gift for music. she wants to try and bring back some of the old time finger style tunes of Chet Aktins. You can visit more here at www.youtube.com/bluegrassforte

Your software is great for interacting with Youtube. I have really enjoyed using V7.

Thanks again,
Robert
Dafydd,

I've been using Power director 7 now for a bit and have really enjoyed all the great features that were added especially the additional PIP track support. I've been using the software to create videos for my daughter's music page on Youtube and I wanted to post this link for others to see the power behind what this package can do.

I look foward to all the changes that are to come.

Thanks for the support,
Robert

BTW,

This is a followup to the timeline playing out of sequence bug listed above. I have reproduced this problem and it's a bug and related with selecting multiple photos and changing the duration. This will throw out the seqence of your audio on video clips that follow in the Timeline. If you change the duration one by one, its ok, But if you select more than one, the play sequence is all messed up. So don't do it until they fix it.

Suggestion - When you fix this bug, please add a check box in the duration dialog to allow users to change all photos in the timeline. Right now its a hassle if you forget to change the default duration setting of 5sec you add a lot photos. Selecting one by one is too time consuming. So please add this if possible in the next service patch.

Thanks,
Robert
I don't know if these have been reported, but I noticed these problems today with PD7.

1. When you create a new template and save it. It uses a default MP3 track for the background music. If you remove the back ground music and save the project then go back to edit mode, then back to the Create disk mode the background music MP3 is back on all chapter pages. This even happens if you save the project, leave and come back. So for some reason this field cannot be saved as a blank field.

2. If you have more then 1 chapter page, you lose the rubber band mode on the text when moving text/titles on all remaining chapter pages. This becomes slow for editing alot of chapter pages.

Feature - When in Edit Menu Mode it would be nice to have a feature to save page settings to all chapter pages. Again it is slow to edit alot of chapter pages one by one, but if there was an option to save settings to all. This be would nice. I think this was in PD6 so I don't know why this was removed. Please add this back...

Thats all for today
I’ve been using this software for a bit now and it’s pretty well designed and has about everything you could want all in one unlike most other DVD authoring software . I have noticed a couple issues though that just wanted to post mainly for the developers.

1. I have noticed sometimes that the timeline plays out of sync even after creating a disk. For example, I had problem where I had a couple of photos with transitions in between followed by an mpeg video. When the second photo in the timeline was visible it started playing the audio from the video clip before it was even to that video sequence, so when it got to the video clip the sound and video were out of sync since the sound was playing way before the video. I had to delete all the photos and that video clip and reinsert them and it was ok again. Not sure why this happened. One thing I did do though when I was authoring the disk was select all photos in the timeline and click on duration to globally change the duration on all photos. This is a nice feature by the way that wasn’t in the V6, but this might be where a bug is. Not sure.

2. I have noticed after creating a new menu template, every time I go into my new template just to modify only, it always wants to save it again with a new thumbnail and it create a whole new template. I don’t really like this feature, if it is one, since its creates a bunch of templates every time I just modify it. I hope this gets changed.

Thanks,
Robert
Dafydd,

I loaded PDR7 on my Dell machine today and the Create Disk function works on this machine , I like the new interface BTW. My other machine has an AMD processor and it also has Pinnacle installed, would this software conflict and cause the Create Disk GP fault I was seeing with PDR7?

One feature I wish you could add to PDR is the ablity to return to the menu after playing a chapter. This is the only reason I have to use Pinnacle for, but if you guys would kindly add that feature I would just stick with Cyberlink. I think I mentioned this to you while you were still working on this version.

Anyway, I will keep you posted if I find any other problems, but at least I got things going now on my other Dell machine.

Thanks,
Robert
