Dafydd,
I loaded PDR7 on my Dell machine today and the Create Disk function works on this machine , I like the new interface BTW. My other machine has an AMD processor and it also has Pinnacle installed, would this software conflict and cause the Create Disk GP fault I was seeing with PDR7?
One feature I wish you could add to PDR is the ablity to return to the menu after playing a chapter. This is the only reason I have to use Pinnacle for, but if you guys would kindly add that feature I would just stick with Cyberlink. I think I mentioned this to you while you were still working on this version.
Anyway, I will keep you posted if I find any other problems, but at least I got things going now on my other Dell machine.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Robert,
I was on the list to be a Beta Tester and I which I would have had the time to do it. I’m a software developer too and I use the Cyberlink V6 software almost daily and it’s way faster to get a production created then all the others out there. I sure which PDR7 would have worked for me.
I was hoping for a resolution on the menutemplateio.dll GP fault problem I posted earlier, since I can’t use the create disk feature at all without a crash. I’m probably just going ask for a refund and try the new version in the future when all the bugs are worked out.
Attached is the GP fault I was seeing with the installer, I sent this to Dafydd already too. I thought it was related to the corrupted installer problem, but even the correct install failed on both of my machines trying to uninstall V6.
Thanks,
Robert

Yes, I agree however, your PDR7 software should take of this for you, but in my case the complimently uninstall process failed for a GP fault during the PDR7 automatic uninstall process and it screwed up the PDR6 uninstaller. In fact, It wouldn't even uninstall from the control panel. Therefore, one has no choice but to uninstall it manually with the clean up util. This is all was indicating.
I wonder how long this software was tested prior to it’s release. Wow, it’s not very stable. This is good software too, I'm really bummed out that it has so many problems.

Andrew,
Thanks for the heads up. Yep, I agree that is the wrong response from Cyberlink. We need to have the developers looking into the menutemplateio.dll to find out what would cause the GP fault. I’m sure it’s probably a problem where the dll is conflicting with some other driver, but removing everything off my system is not acceptable either.
I actually had a chance to be a beta tester for PDR7 and now I which I would have since I have a lot of different hardware to test it on. Oh well, I know John and the software staff at Cyberlink will get it fix eventually, but in the meantime, I think I might ask for a refund too and go back to PDR6 for now since there’s still some more work to do here.
What usually happens, is Marketing starts to push the software guys to a release date too quickly and this is usually the outcome. Trust me, I’ve been there many times with my company.
Thanks again,
Robert

Just a heads up for those trying to uninstall PDR6 to reinstall PDR7. I actually had to run the Microsoft install clean up software to probably remove the older PDR6 software before I could actually get PDR7 to install probably. The PDR7 installer would crash and would not automatically uninstall the software even with the new uncorrupted install build.
Just FYI…

Dafydd,
I probably should have waited just a bit before purchasing PDR7 since I keep running into several problems. I got passed the install issue with the corrupted install and got it installed. However, I have found another hard general protection fault when trying to use the Create Disk option. If I just click on the create disk menu option with just a few photos in the timeline I get a general protection fault every time right off the bat and the software crashes. Not sure what to do next. Any ideas?
I have attached the GP fault error condition.
Thanks,
Robert

Hi Dafydd,
I tried this new DLL yesterday. It seems to work really nice. I was having some problems when I would save my project before trying your DLL. It appears that the xml data would not get completely written in the project file and resulted in a broken file error when I tried to reload the project. I plugged in your new DLL and I never seen one crash after that and I was able finish the project without error. This is great because I really like to use the text overlay features to scroll text on my Storybook items and whatever you fixed, it appears to work across the board now with all the other text overlays as well. It sure was nice to not see the runtime errors again. You should get this into the main download patch.
This software is in my opinion one of the best to use and I have tried most of them. You guys did a great job on this package. I'm a Software developer too and I really appreciate using good software tools and dealing support people that are willing to address the problems since nothing is ever bug free in the software world.
Thanks a bunch for the change and Merry Christmas,
Robert

The exception files
|
|
I'm able to reproduce the PD exeception error every time during the preview when I place a text box in the middle or at the end of my storybook selection of photo's/video and select the perspective scrolling feature for the text. The error occurs when previewing all storybook selections after a couple of attempts. Keep in mind that this problem that I've seen seems to track larger projects. I attached a couple of screen shots of the exception error. This problem happens on my other workstation to, so it's a problem.
Hope this helps.

Regarding the problem I see with the Perspective text tool, if I have a very large build of photos and videos and drop in the perspective tool say at the end of the storybook sequence to scroll credits that includes several lines of text in the edit box to scroll. Once it’s added and I run a preview of the project at that location containing the tool, PD fails and just disappears and something it pops up with dialog box saying application error. Now if I remove the perspective tool and place it with a normal scroll up tool, it works fine. I've been able to reproduce this on both my workstations with different projects. I quit using it because I could never get it work correctly. It’s a cool scroller though...
Regarding the sound distortion problem. I only see this problem with background mp3/wma files with the menu. I'm using 128bit mp3's and have tried WMA files as well, both giving the same result. I did notice though if I encode the files with a lower sound volume it does sound much better. You know what's really weird too is, if I have a really small project of files the menu background sound is fine and the final project sounds great. Again, it’s only related with a bigger project with say 2GB of video and images. This is a weird one...
I probably should start this in another thread, but I have a workstation running PD, that when I produce a DVD or MPG file it places purple colored lines above and below my mpg video clip after being produced. If I preview the video prior to producing it, it's fine. The problem occurs after being produced as an mpg file or burned on a DVD. I have the latest nVidia video drivers on this machine. Do you know what would cause this problem? If I produce as a wmv file it looks good, its just the mpg builds that have the problem. I tried to attach the mpg file for your preview, but it wouldn't take the 1Mb mpg file.
Thanks

Thanks Dafydd for your response. I wished PowerDirector had all the features in one :, but I know its a marketing thing since my company makes us software guys seperate the features into different apps too.
BTW, I think there is a bug in PD with the Perspective text tool. Everytime I've use it with a large build the software crashes when I run a preview on it. When I switch to a basic scroll up it works fine so it follows the perspective text tool. Have you seen this problem?
Also, do you know why after building a disk the background music attached to the menu's are grainy sounding. The files I use are 128bit WMA files. They are smooth sounding on the preview, but after the build they don't sound that good any more. Any Idea's on that?
I really like this application so hopefully they will keep fixing the small bugs and release patches.
Thanks again,
Robert

Can someone tell me what the "Auto Menu timeout" does in the create disk preference dialog box since I can't find a reference to it in the Help anywhere. I'm looking for a way that after playing a chapter on a disk it will go back to the menu automatically instead of playing through all the chapters. Does that timeout option control that feature or is there another way to do that somewhere else.
Thanks...

Hi,
I created a pretty big production and it all works great except for the DVD Menu after being burned. The menu screen appears real jerky and the menu background mp3 music has alot of static. The funny thing is, when I preview the custom menu with my own background image and background music, it sounds nice and looks great and the video menu doesn't jerk around and there is no static noise in the menu background MP3.
So, is there any bugs related to this issue or what on earth would cause the production to be so messed up after its burned? I even tried creating the production in a DVD file format and tried playing it that way and the menu still has alot of static in it along with the background music static.
I used one of the motion menu templates and place my own background image in that and attached the menu background mp3. That should be ok since it converts it to a custom menu anyway. Like I said it previews great but the burned product menu looks and sounds like garbage.
Is there anything I can do to resolve the above problem? I have tried creating the menu several times before just giving up on the software.
Thanks...
