Quote All transitions fade the audio unless you've applied the transition to the end of a single clip or if you have the transition type set to Cross, instead of Overlap. Does this discussion help?

I used the Fade "Cross" transition and there is no visual transition in the audio timeline nor is there any actual audio transition when listening.
Interestingly, if I select or double click on the "Cross" transition in the timeline to display the Fade options, then select "Overlap" the audio transition appears in the timeline and then immediately select back to "Cross", the audio transition remains in the audio timeline as a Cross transition.

Is there a way to assign an audio transition to a Fade Cross so its done automatically without the extra steps mentioned above?
I always though the video transition also did audio but Im seeing now it does not.
Is there a way to have or create a transition that includes the audio track?

You can't remove the change that was done other than basic undo feature. If past the basic undo, you have to replace the clip to restore original.

Jeff

Got it thanks. I can recover the original clip, its just a nusiance.
I made some audio edits using the onboard Audio Editor of PD20. There is an "i" at the bottom of the clip to inidicate an edit in in play. How do I remove the audio edit I did and the "i" at the bottom of the clip?
Ive dont he reset in the audio edit tool, but nothing changes.

Is is possible to back to the original audio?

I little different then that. I want the resultant mixed audio from the 2 mics, to be provided as mono or the same mix in both the left and right channels. I have Audio Director. Will it do that? I cant seem to see how if it does.
Quote

That is rather different. From this description, it sounds like you want to combine a mono left channel mic with a mono right channel mic to create pseudo 2 channel stereo. With that, you want to pan left and right to create the effect of a moving car to the listening viewer. If that is the need, no, PD20 and/or the built in Audio Editor cannot achieve that, neither perform panning.

Jeff

It sounds like you simply only want to use PD, if that's the case, I think the answer is yes.

Not sure I understand what your desire really is as you can't have a single mono audio with video output as PD will always be at least 2 channels. What one can do in the produce tab (audio only) is produce as a windows audio mono format. Use this audio in PD muting the original audio and when you produce a stereo video this will create a mono track in both L and R channels.

Is that by chance what you want?

Jeff

After thinking more about my requirement I'm changing it up a bit.

for a moving vehicle video, i have recorded a left and a right track with 2 seperate microphones, one for each track. Each mic in a different location on the car to capture engine and road sounds. In the final video I'd like to select the left or right audio, OR mix the 2 tracks with ability to adjust volume separately, and yes do it in PD for simplicity.
I want to take the left audio channel and merge with the right for a single mono audio channel. Is there a way to do that with Power Director Audio Editor?
I have a phone video shot in 1080P/30. It looks fine and smooth when played forward but when I apply "Tools/Video in Reverse" it becomes jerky. There is a regular pause every 1 second of so. Anything I can do to avoid this jerkiness when viewed in reverse?
thanks

A mask exists only to mark the area that is blocked or allowed to show through. It has no other properties.

In your case, you'd want to use an FX like Blur or one of the NewBlue Pixelators (if present) to place over the license plate. Each can be sized, placed and the strength of the effect tweaked as desired.

I tried it and it will work fine. The Blue Pixel apparently was a trial and expired but the blur works good. Thank you
Quote In the mask designer: select all masks (left top of the screen), and scroll to the top of the masks available. At the top left you will see a blue cross, which deletes the mask the has been selected in the screen right.
As you said it is simple, but whether it is intuitive?

Dont understand your second remark.

HAHA. Got it. So simple but I struggled and failed to figure it out. Thank you!

The second question: I have placed a mask (inverted) to hide a license plate. The fill is 100% opacity and black. How can I change the fill? Say to another color or even pixelated?

Thanks again!
Ive inserted a mask using Mask Designer (non motion).
How do I delete the Mask? Seems like it should be simple but I cannot find a way.

How do I pixelate or choose some other fill then just black?

thank you!

Thank you for the mediainfos. These are GoPro videos with a constant frame rate and a constant audio bitrate. I don’t have any problem editing the hevc version of them on a desktop. I have found in the past that toggling the Preference/General/Audio between stereo and 5.1 a few times and then OK fixes low level of audio heard on the timeline on previous PD versions. Only had to do that a few times in 10 years of video editing. You may want to change the Preview Quality from HD to High if you haven’t done so already. Check to see if 60 fps Drop frame yes is selected in Preferences. Enable Hardware decoding in Preferences/Hardware acceleration. That is all the suggestions I have as I edit 4k/60p hevc GoPro videos without the audio issues.

Others may want to chime in with their GoPro editing experience.

Thank you....Fixed!

Toggling between stereo and 5.1 did not help.

But what did help was changing the Preview Quality.!

I was in Full HD Preview when the audio delay occurred and I changed it to HD and the audio was now synchronized in HD preview. What's interesting is that when I went back to Full HD it remained synchronized. So perhaps toggling out of it helped. But no matter, it's no problem using a lower resolution to edit if it happens again.

Thanks so much for the help!.
Quote It is possible that the clips that you are using have a variable frame rate and/or a variable audio bit rate. Please supply a copy of the mediainfo of the clip that has the problem. Here is a link to Mediainfo online if you don't have the app on the laptop : https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfoOnline . Attach the mediainfo on your next reply.

Thanks so much. 2 mediainfo files attached, a GoPro Hero 7 and a Hero 8. Both have the same sync to video issue. Again its only during editing and when I produce the audio is synced fine. Sometimes I need to edit know precisely where the audio is and this is a problem for me.
Power Director 20, Windows 10, Dell Vostro 7590 i&, 16GB RAM.

Since Ive used PD19 and now PD20 the audio has never synced to the video during editing playback. I have tried solutions I have found including deleting the temporary files, but no luck. I find no audio settings within PD20 settings to experiment with.

Is this a problem with the PC? Are there settings in the PC that may clear it up?

Thanks!

You can't. The text box resize is a graphical way to adjust the size of the text instead of manually changing the font size. Since the text box is invisible in the produced video, why would you want to change it?

You can't. There's never been any kind of word-wrap feature, but you can use Rate Us & Provide Suggestions under PD's File menu to request that they add it.

Yea I thought it was a futile question. I left a Suggestion. thanks for the tip.
How can I edit the text as I would with a text editor?
For example:

1. Currently when I change the Text Box size the font size changes with it. How can I change the text box size without changing the size of the font?

2. Currently, when I type in the text it does not "wrap" inside the text box. It just continues on 1 line until I hit the "Return" How can I wrap text within a text box automatically without having to trial and error every time to fit the text.

Any hints here?

Happy New Year!

thanks for the suggestion.

(For Sound to fade)
Edit
Preferences
Editing
Set default transition behavior ->Overlap
OK

(For Sound to NOT fade)
Set default transition behavior ->Cross
... if you DO want to have sound fade with Cross, do this...
... AFter applyhing the Cross fade ->
Select the first clip on the timeline in question (to highlight it)
Press End to go to end of the clip
Press F9 to go to Audio Mixing Room
For the Audio track in question, press the Right Triangle
over the word NORMALIZE to make the sound track
fade out....
Select the second clip on the timeline in questiion
Press HOME to go to the beginning of the clip
Press F9 to go to the Audio Mixing Room
For the Audio track in question, press the Left Triangle
over the word NORMALIZE to make the sound track
fade in...
OK
(This will create a fade in and out, not a crossfade for the
sound).

Understood. I take it then that one does not usuall fade sound with the Cross transition?
When I apply a video transition, specifically the Fade Cross Transition, there is no audio transition applied with it...there is no graphic in the timeline for audio transition, and when I listen there is no transition..
If I modify the transition (double click the transition and menu appears), to Overlap and then back to Cross, the audio transition then appears in the timeline and I hear the audio fade in and out.

How do I default a transition to always have an audio transition associated with the video?

Thanks for any tips!.
Quote With hundreds of possible configurations and customizations out there, it's impossible to recommend an exact model. So you'll need to do the shopping. But I'd recommend a few rules of thumb.

  1. Get a processor that rates at least 11,000 on this benchmark page. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

Even better if it's Windows 11 ready. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/windows-processor-requirements

2. At least 16 gig of RAM

3. PowerDirector doesn't get a lot of power from GPU, but a decent graphics card can be helpful. Though I don't think you need to go too high up this list. You don't need a gamer machine. https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

4. An SSD hard drive definitely adds some pep -- but they can be pricey if you're looking at something that's a terrabyte or more. So maybe get a $500 SSD drive for your programs and store your media on a seperate SATA drive.

Finally consider that it may be your media rather than your hardware that's causing your challenges. What form is your 4K video in? If it's an MP4 at 3480x2160 at 30 fps the program is a lot less likely to choke on it than if it's GoPro or iPhone or other advanced footage that runs at 60 fps or uses the HEVC codec.

Your laptop is pretty hefty. It should not be struggling with 4K editing, especially if you're using the program's "shadow files" feature. So before you sink a couple of grand into a massive system, consider that maybe things will run smoother if your video is more compatible with basic video editing, IMHO.

Thanks so much for that. Very insightful.
My processor barely makes the cut with a benchmark score of about 11500 (I7-9750 2.6 GHz).
I have 16GB RAM and a 500GB SSD C drive that I use when video editing (I transfer the video files to a hard drive when editing is complete to save SSD space)
I am editing GoPro files and using 1080P source video (not 4K as asked for in my hardware wish)
When producing I use H264 1080P/60.
To your point about GPUs, when watching the Task Manager performance, during a PD "Produce" I see about 4X CPU use vs GPU (see the attached).
Given all that Id say the laptop is usable with PD20 and 1080P editing when creating 5-minute videos.
So I think I have a usable but very sluggish platform without any upgrade path and If I want better performance Im going to have to spend some money.

I looked at other hardware possibilities it seems Apple is at the top of everyones list but not for me.
A possible choice but expensive is the newly released Dell 8950. An I7-12700K has a Passmark benchmark of around 30,000 and uses a Radeon R6600 GPU but its pushing $2500.

Does the use case clarification above suggest to you a direction for performance improvement?

Thanks again
