The registry setting is here

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/45/16002.page

Bizarre how the ATI cards are built from the reference cards, use a universal driver but still require the initial system drivers (although the ATI 2400 I had used a custom dongle, the others have used a variety of HDMI/DVI/D-Sub and S-Video so maybe that was the difference).

Good luck with tech support.
The first generation of DVD players had faults but they were soon ironed out. Blu Ray has been a moving target, it was never a stable environment and had a lot to do in order to catch up to HD DVD but I digress.

There are very few 3D BD stand alone players in the UK market and they have their quirks, even the PS3 that plays the movies still has faults.

Because the technology is constantly progressing I went Media Centre PC a few years ago on the basis that I could make minor changes to the components but it's been a fraut experience; the first issue was to get the PC quiet enough for the living room !

Anyway my current setup cost me less than £500 and it has an ATI 5670 card, my Samsung also switches to 24Hz for BD playback but I do not use WMC; I use the player in the desktop. The 6450 isn't the most powerful of cards but should be ideal for HTPC duties, it even supports ATI 3D, which films are choppy ? Have you tried to playback movies using PDVD in the desktop ?
Your setup is similar to mine apart from the fact I'm running Windows 64bit and have more memory.

Over the years I've upgraded from HD2400XT, HD3450, HD4550 now HD5670 always by totally removing all ATI drivers then re-instaling from the supplied CD's first then upgrading. In the early days I had to use the special ATI removal tool.

However what interests me is the fact that your PDVD is stopping at 99% while loading the BD. You mention that you are fully patched, do you have IE 9 installed ? Did you add the registry setting mention in one of the other posts ? Bar the ATI drivers did something else change between removing the old card and adding the new one (for example Windows update).

The other poster, Win7 32bit memory, not all is addressable because of the device stack, there won't be any background programs running at special high addresses (unless they are re-directed vectors as part of the device stack).

Appologies, the registry key in this post

http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/45/16002.page

plus removing IE9 has fixed the issue.
Hello all,

I've not played a BD in a while but went to play one tonight and PowerDVD fails to run. Looking at the forum members are complaining that PDVD10 in WMC will not work if the latest Microsoft updates have been applied (notably IE 9).

Having read the other posts I have removed IE9, re-installed PDVD 10 to build version 2701 but PowerDVD still does not work, the Loading progress bar comes up and stops at 99%. My PC is patched up to date with the latest updates from Microsoft (BUT NOT IE9). Also added the registry key and ran the PDVD Cinema files as suggested in the other post (incase it was that), still no luck. PDVD still stops at 99%.

DXDIAG attached.

Hi 3Dfreak1973,

I feel your pain, I no longer regard BD or 3D as bleeding edge but it is fraught with problems (even with commercial players), maybe it is a bag of hurt ?

Are you still getting overscan problems at 1920 x 1080 ? When you try and play the 3D movie does the TV switch modes ?

I'm afraid I don't have an nVidia setup but I do have a Samsung C8000 TV, initially I had overscan problems at 1920 x 1080 so I used the ATI CCC to under scan and fit the screen but 3D movies failed to play at 1080p (ran at 720p). Going through the Samsung TV settings I changed the picture options SIZE from 16:9 to screen fit and the under scan went away.

What I noticed was that the screen resolution in PC mode works at 1080p60, using PowerDVD I was also able to play 3D moves but the resolution changed to 1080p24.

Obviously unrelated to your issue but the overscan issue interests me.

Good luck with your setup if I had an nVidia setup I'd help more.
Hi jkwaterman, glad you fixed your problem, a complete re-install is brutal but sometimes the way to go.

4Gb of RAM; direct access to memory above 4Gb of RAM is generally not possible on a 32bit Windows operating system but entirely possible when using PAE/AWE otherwise how do you think a 32bit O/S could run with a large amount of memory in a data centre !

4Gb of RAM; you can only see 3-3.5Gb of usable RAM, this is because Windows needs memory for the devices you have on your PC. The less actual usable RAM you have the more devices you have (or more memory required by those devices). Way back in time the memory stack used to be fixed, for example Hercules graphics cards would be known to be at address B0000/B8000 so developers could use those addresses. Today things aren't so simple, there is a vector stack in Windows allowing devices to be re-located in memory but it doesn't generally matter as a developer will be programming against an API.

4Gb of Virtual RAM; is available to a Windows 32bit process (2Gb user/2Gb system) although this is theorectical as 4Gb RAM may not be installed (in fact until a few years ago 2Gb RAM was regarded as quite a lot).

Hope that helps clarify.
Hi jkwaterman,

Your PC is very well specified to play DVD and BD. What type of video files stutter ? All, DVD, DVD + BD ?

From my understanding of your post the problem is stuttering video and stuttering audio, is this correct ? Is it at the same time or audio fine and video stutter etc.

Something interesting you mention is when you disable the onboard audio driver PowerDVD will hang. If you open PowerDVD and choose default audio device (rather than specifying) then disable the oboard audio device and set the ATI one as default does that work ?

I've been using various ATI cards for a few years now and there have been some setup issues. For example I owned an ATI 2450 card and upgraded to ATI 3450 and thought as the drivers were generic it would all just work but I was wrong. What I had to do was re-install the ATI 2450, remove the drivers, install the ATI 3450, load the drivers from the manufacturers CD and then update them from the ATI web site (putting the ATI drivers straight from the web site without installing them from the CD first didn't work).

With the latest drivers (11 (not tried 11.2 which was released yesterday)) I've found that I didn't even have to load the realtek driver, the one that comes with the ATI package seems to be robust.

Unfortunately working through these issues tends to be a methodical process of experimentation noting down tested permutations until a setup works.

Before you go through the process of working out your issue I'd always recommend downloading the latest version of PowerDVD (from the Cyberlink web site menu Support then Software Update) and running the Cyberlink BD advisor (from the from the Cyberlink web site menu Support then BD advisor).

My PC is a Shuttle SP45H7 which also has an onboard audio solution and this needs to be disabled in the BIOS otherwise Windows sometimes decides this is the primary audio device (no idea why). If it's of any use I will take note of my settings and post them, let me know if you want me to do this.
Hi Mariano1979

I have a Shuttle XPC with an ATI 5670, Windows 7, PDVD 10mk2 ultra, Onkyo AV Amp and a C8000 Samsung TV.

Initially I had problems with the 3D, below is a small list of things that may help

1) You need PowerDVD 10 Mk 2 ULTRA edition
2) Run the PowerDVD 3D advisor, it will report of any potential problems, goto Cyberlink Site, from the menu Support then advisor
3) Get the latest version of PowerDVD software do not rely on auto update, goto Cyberlink Site, from the menu Support then Software Updates, PowerDVD
4) Leave the 3D setting on PowerDVD to Auto Detect
5) On the Samsung TV, menu, picture options, screen fit (will check this tomorrow)
6) Connect your HDMI cable directly to the TV (even if your amp is HDMI 1.4a)
7) Put your 3D disc into the drive, the full screen message will appear, click ok, at this point my Samsung switches to 1920 x 1080 @24Hz (from 60Hz)
Your Samsung will tell you it's going into 3D mode and to put your glasses on

Also I use HDMI for audio and Video and not DVI->HDMI, perhaps this could be an issue because audio cannot be transported across this connection (unless you are connecting into an Asus HDAV).

Which disc or discs are you trying to play ? I've used Bolt, Christmas Carol, Monsters v Aliens and Up!

From memory there are other things we can try with the setup, oh and I almost forgot, I use AnyDVD HD, it's invaluable!
Hi techguy I've had a few issues with ATI audio in the past some of the
resolutions have been

1) Use the Realtek driver (when audio via the ATI card was in it's infancy , I rebuild my PC last weekend and used the new CCC manager and 10.12 without any issue)

2) Playback is via a TV so in the past I've had to make sure I use an HDTV resolution; if your output is a TV try that

3) On Windows 7 (and Vista I think) going into audio devices, selecting ATI HDMI, properties, making sure that DTS-HD and DD-HD are supported formats. Also in the past I've had to change the default sampling rate (also in properties/advanced) from CD 44khz to 24bit 96000Hz studio quality or above.

My connection is ATI 5670 1Gb DDR5 HDMI -> Onkyo TX-SR708 AV amp -> Samsung C8000 TV (HDMI)
Hi James

While I don't have your particular 3D setup I have been through some 3D pain.

Have you checked for PowerDVD updates ? I was running PDVD 10 mk 2 Ultra but not getting 3D until I downloaded the latest update PowerDVD 10 Ultra 3D build 2429. The update DID NOT download automatically from PowerDVD I had to get it directly from the Cyberlink support page.

Have you run the Cyberlink BD and 3D advisor (http://www.cyberlink.com/prog/bd-support/diagnosis.do) ? When I had PDVD 9.5 it was crashing with 3D content (even though PDVD 9.5 was supposed to support 3D !) turns out that my AV amp broke the 3D chain and PDVD was not exiting gracefully.

The Cyberlink BD advisor was a very useful tool. Like you I too tried TMT 5 and for a while ran PDVD 9 and TMT 3, I have to say that both have their faults and I'm more reluctant to continue to run two pieces of media software.

Hope you get your setup sorted.

Thanks.

Chris.
I've been running BluRay (and HD DVD before that) since PowerDVD 7 Ultra. All of my equipment is HDCP compliant but the only way I could get it all to work was to PURCHASE ANYDVD HD (I can't condone ripping off software).

Haven't tried to run a setup without AnyDVD HD for quite some time so not sure if I'd still get issues, either way AnyDVD saves a lot of aggravation in a HTPC setup.
I thought I'd share a recent problem I've been having and a fix.

Re-installed my Windows 7 PC from 32bit to 64bit and right from the first proper boot had overscan problems with my ATI 5670 graphics card so I set the resolution in CCC to 1080p60 custom (underscanning).

Did all my application installs and updates, loaded up PowerDVD 9 Ultra, performed an upgrade to PowerDVD 10 Ultra mk2 and tried to play a 3D Bluray ... didn't work, auto detect did not recognise the TV as being 3D capable so I manually set the 3D hardware as 3D Ready TV and changed the settings on my TV. Still no 3D playback, so I checked for PowerDVD updates and loaded on PowerDVD 10 Ultra 3D build 2429, PowerDVD now recognised my TV as having 3D capable playback !

Unfortunately 3D playback would be at 720p resoltuion (1280x720@60Hz) not glorious 1080p. After much reading of the Samsung TV manual (and messing with the ATI HD TV configuration) I resolved this issue by going into the TV settings, selecting Picture Options and for the SIZE value setting it to Screen Fit and NOT 16:9.

Now I no longer have overscan issues in Windows 7, 3D BD plays at 1080p, PowerDVD 10 automatically detects that the disc is a 3D BD, places the TV into 3D mode and it all works wonderfully.

This post is for those users with a similar setup that maybe encountering the same issue as me, hopefully it will save you a few hours of changing configurations settings.
To answer my own question ...

... downloaded TMT5 for trial purposes, the Christmas Carol 3D BD played fine but film stuttered and 3D was ropey.

Ran Cyberlink 3D BD advisor ... all passed bar my Onkyo AV Amp (TX-SR705).

Wired my HTPC directly to my 3D TV and ... PDVD 9.5 loaded the disc and started to play but 3D was ropey and lots of stuttering.

Updated my ATI graphics drivers from 10.11 to 10.12, still ropey 3D playback.

Downloaded PDVD Ultra mk2 3D, connected HTPC direct to the TV and hey presto, 3D Christmas Carol.

Hope this helps someone else.
Michael, I've read the 3D info thread.

Are we basically saying we need an HDMI 1.4 Graphics card (nVidia is specified) AND HDMI 1.4 A/V Amp (3D TV is a given) ?

A few years ago I got rid of my DVD player, PVR etc in favour of a single device; a media PC. Running Windows XP MCE was fraught with issues, Vista gave a better experience and W7 is the best media experience yet.

The reasons for selecting a PC based solution were ... single device, software upgradable. Over the years it's been the case that the hardware has had to be upgraded (notably graphics card on two or three occasions !).

Shame if the software does require a hardware upgrade.
Thanks Media-bug1, I guess it's just me or PDVD 9.5. I'm reluctant to upgrade to PDVD 10 as I forked out a fair bit on a new BD drive that is advertised as 3D !
Hello Cyberlink-Michael,

Thank you for your reply. Additional details are below

PDVD 9 v 9.0.3106.52
SR# MES100401-01
Windows 7 Professional 32bit
Always runs under admin
Software bundled with Sony BDRW (although I have purchased 9.0 previously)
ATI 5670 with 1Gb RAM
Output is via HDMI to Onkyo Amp (will try direct to TV)
Single display, Samsung UE40C8000 TV
MS Security Essentials
DXDIAG attached

To recap the blu ray is recognised, starts to load and stops around 98%. Any advice is gratefully received.

Thanks.
Hello all,

I recently purchased Christmas Carol Triple Play BD that has three discs containing 2D film, 3D film and digital copy. The 2D BD plays fine with PDVD 9.5 but the 3D version of the film starts to load and stops at 98%.

Does anyone have the 3D version of this film ? Does it work with PDVD 9.5 or PDVD 10.0 ?

Thanks.
Hello all,

I have a Samsung UE40C8000 LED 3D TV, a Shuttle HTPC with ATI 5670 HDMI 1.3 graphics card and an OEM PDVD 9.5 with 3D playback that came with a Sony BD re-writer (previously I've used PDVD 7 and 9 ultra editions).

Purchased a glasses pack for the TV and it came with Monsters v Aliens, I've watched the film in 3D but ... am I watching REAL BD 3D or do I need HDMI 1.4 or an nVidia card or a newer ATI card ?

Will PDVD 9.5 output true BD 3D across an ATI 5670 ?

Thanks
