Changed Video Card and now can't play Blu-Ray's in PDVD 10

Up until now everything was okay. So I broke it.

98% of the time I can't play Blu-Ray's without crashing PDVD. 2% of the time I can.
It doesn't matter whether the source is my hard drive or an actual disc.

PDVD crashes by either 1) disappearing or 2) locking up at 99% while loading the Blu-Ray.
I don't get any error messages in any case.

The old video card was a Radeon HD4850
The new video card is a Radeon HD5670
I uninstalled the old video card driver and then installed the new card.
I also uninstalled PowerDVD and reinstalled with the latest 2701 patch.
I installed the ATI Catylist driver and updated to the latest driver for the 5670.
I'm running Win 7 32-bit with all the latest patches.
Cyberlink BD Advisor says I'm good. Everything is a pass and it recognizes my video card.
Otherwise my setup has been rock solid.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

The detailed issue description:

PDVD crashes by either 1) disappearing or 2) locking up at 99% while loading the Blu-Ray.
I don't get any error messages in any case.

My old video card was a Radeon HD4850 and it works fin (but no DTS-HD capability so I upgraded)
The new video card is a Radeon HD5670 (I've tried two: a Gigabyte and a HIS)
I uninstalled the old video card driver and then installed the new card.

If I turn on "Exclusive Mode" in the AMD HDMI Output Properties then PowerDVD hangs.
If I turn off "Exclusive Mode" then PowerDVD runs but I'm limited to PCM decoded by PowerDVD.

I can put my HD4850 back in and without changing drivers everything works. With the HD4850 I can turn on "Exclusive Mode" in the AMD HDMI Output Properties and PowerDVD runs fine. Of course I can't enable DTS-HD since the 4850 doesn't support it and this is why I'm trying to upgrade to the HD5670!! Since I have two different HD4850's manufactured by two different companies it can't be a video card hardware problem. I've tried both the bundled drivers and the latest AMD drivers without any happiness.

I have 4GB which is all that Win 7 32-bit will recognize.

Hi,
I know but from that 4GB Windows 7 uses some, background programs etc. you only left with 3??GB and I don't think that is enough for Hi-Definition my personal thoughts.
This is just my thoughts... Intel i7-2600@3.4Gz Geforce 560ti-1GB Graphic accelerator, windows 7 Premium 12GB memory

I've installed Realtek high definition audio drivers - no go.
I've also tried PowerDVD 11 trial - no go, same exact outcome.

Whenever I select Exclusive mode for the audio then PowerDVD hangs @ 99% and freezes. Once in a great while, like 1 in a 100 trials, it doesn't hang and plays correctly.

FWIW I'm running from a SSD. That couldn't possibly be an issue, could it?

Hi,
Depends on the SSd size as PD maybe using the drive as temp and it may not be big enough...try change in preference the location to a normal drive.

Your setup is similar to mine apart from the fact I'm running Windows 64bit and have more memory.

Over the years I've upgraded from HD2400XT, HD3450, HD4550 now HD5670 always by totally removing all ATI drivers then re-instaling from the supplied CD's first then upgrading. In the early days I had to use the special ATI removal tool.

However what interests me is the fact that your PDVD is stopping at 99% while loading the BD. You mention that you are fully patched, do you have IE 9 installed ? Did you add the registry setting mention in one of the other posts ? Bar the ATI drivers did something else change between removing the old card and adding the new one (for example Windows update).

The other poster, Win7 32bit memory, not all is addressable because of the device stack, there won't be any background programs running at special high addresses (unless they are re-directed vectors as part of the device stack).

I agree, I too regularly uninstall old drivers before installing new cards because like many I've been through driver hell from time to time. In this case though the two cards both use the same drivers. Yes, I'm fully up to date including IE9. My troubles began before SP1 and IE9 though. Otherwise I began having troubles immediately after installing the HD5670 card. As I've said, I can go back and forth between the 4850 and 5670 and the trouble always follows the 5670. I'm not sure what registry changes you're referring to. I did completely uninstall PDVD10, including running PowerDVD Cleaner but it didn't change anything. Since I can run TMT5 I'm pretty convinced that it's a problem with PDVD and not my setup. I have an open ticket with tech support.

The registry setting is here

Bizarre how the ATI cards are built from the reference cards, use a universal driver but still require the initial system drivers (although the ATI 2400 I had used a custom dongle, the others have used a variety of HDMI/DVI/D-Sub and S-Video so maybe that was the difference).

Good luck with tech support.

Hi,

suggest:

1. install most recent drivers (11.5)
2. disable elby clone drive

I'm running the latest 11.5b and have disabled Elby Virtual CloneDrive to no avail. I still can't play Blu-Ray's discs at all (except for TMT5).
