I discovered that every Catalyst driver above 11.9 through 13.1 has serious HDMI HDCP PVP-OPM handshake issues for some HDMI or DVI-D configurations - the Cyberlink BD advisor reports that HDCP checks fail, and protected BD content cannot be played even though all equipment is HDCP compliant.
Try installing the Catalyst 13.3 Beta package, install and run the Cyberlink BD Advisor to see if all tests "PASS", especially HDCP.
The 13.3 Catalyst Beta fixed the HDCP handshake problems on my Windows 7 x64 system with a HD 7970 card, and protected BD media now plays without error popups or crashes using PowerDVD 12 Ultra.
Thanks for the info Joe. I'm using an HD6870 through a DVI-I dual link to Dell 3007WFP, and get frequent, random dumps to desktop when playing simple DVDs, and only since upgrading to PDVD version 12, from 10. I'll give your idea a whirl tomorrow when I get home from work.

...and again, having just updated Adobe Flash, just in case.
OK, my tether is well and truly at an end.

Was this ever resolved? I'm having the same problem, and I'm curious about SPT's mentioning the media library - I wanted to know if there's any way to exclude folders from its search, i.e. photos?

LOL! It just happened AGAIN!
...only this time accompanied by this hilarious message :
"Cyberlink PowerDVD cannot play back the inserted disc. Make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements. You can find additional information on the Cyberlink FAQ web site - - (Code = 0102)"
Well, unless a C2Q 2.66GHz / 4GB / Radeon HD6870 system isn't up to "minimum system requirements", I'm at a loss.

Before I start, I have to ask "goldenm"; why is your opinion of whether I do or do not "deserve" a refund in any way helpful, never mind relevant?
Oh well, so much for all the uninstalling / reinstalling.
I just got through about 2 - 3 minutes of Frasier, only to yet again be dumped back to desktop.
Why is it that my system can play / run ANYTHING I throw at it, from ultra-demanding games, to CS6 edits on tens of 18mp images at a time, to edits of 30 minute videos @ 1920 x 1080 in Vegas, to thousands of 18mp images loaded into my Lightroom catalog, but I can't playback a friggin' DVD?!? The worst part? I've had no trouble playing DVDs since WinXP at the turn of the century, so why the hell is this version 12 suddenly acting like I'm expecting it to recreate the Universe?
/frustrated & bamboozled

OK, gutted anything to do with PowerDVD & Cyberlink from my HD... ran Revo uninstaller, did manual reg scan & delete, etc... Then ran PowerDVD 10 installer, ran PowerDVD 12 upgrade installer, downloaded and installed latest patch, currently defragging, and will report back tonight as to the success (or otherwise ).

That's what's really bugging me to be honest - the previous version I'd been using, 10.x I think, served me very well indeed, with no problems whatsoever! It's only since I upgraded (as a result of being relentlessly hounded by the program) to upgrade, and the need to play BD disks, that I took the plunge. I doubt I've ever regretted a software purchase so much.
|
|
...and reverted to playing the last series of Frasier DVDs I've been watching up until this latest upgrade of PowerDVD, and I'm now being rewarded with random but frequent dumps to desktop, for no apparent reason whatsoever. I can be watching for five minutes, or paused to go answer the door, whatever, and "...has stopped responding" or some such message appears, leaving me yet again staring at my desktop + icons.
I was considering a refund for this software a week or two ago, and I'm now a sliver away from demanding it. This is one ridiculously fickle, unstable piece of software, especially when you consider what it is doing - playing back bloody video!!! ...from standard, legitimate media no less, on a Core2Quad / Radeon HD6870 / 4GB system running Win7 Pro SP1 + updates, with all drivers up to date.

I seem to be getting redirected to a company called "asknet.com". I purchased this software from Cyberlink. I need to contact Cyberlink. Surely there is a direct email for Cyberlink that I can send my message to?

Thanks Michael, I'll give it a try.

How do I go about getting a refund for this software when the official email request address returns this message? :

What, the post in which I was a bit flabbergasted at being told, maybe I ..."thought my drivers were up to date, but maybe they weren't"? Do me a favour... stop assuming that those posting problems are completely clueless, if not downright stoopid.
...well experienced in the really, really odd vagaries of PD over many releases
...and yet, newcomers are given the distinct impression that it's their hardware or driver stability that's the number one suspect, when, as you say yourself, the software is, at best "oddly vague" in its behaviour?
So tell me, why, given that I supplied DXdiags, explained the problem succinctly and accurately, have I received no advice since? Because my manner is a tad abrupt? If so, you might want to ask Mr Crab to tone down the Patronise a little.

Of course not, but there's just as much likelihood of fairies living at the bottom of my garden. Can you prove there aren't?
Hint : dumb question.
|
|
What on Earth does his video driver version have to do with the rendering process seemingly reaching a 1GB quota, looping, then dumping 1K files to disk?
|
|
The drivers are from AMD. Forgive me, but you seem to be going on the assumption that I don't know what I'm doing. I build and repair computers for a living.

Hardware :
Core2quad @ stock speed (2.66GHz)
Radeon HD 6870 1GB PCIe
4GB DDR2
500GB Sata HD
Software :
Windows 7 Pro SP1 + subsequent updates.
Source files :
MPEG-TS Video File (.MTS) captured on Sony HDR CX730E.
BarryTheCrab, I don't think my drivers are up to date, I know they are; they were downloaded and installed today.
BabIndia, I tried both with and without hardware acceleration, same result.

OK, I've been instructed to start a new topic about this... bizarrely, since the previous thread was about the same (apparently as-yet unresolved) issue was locked...
If I try to playback an imported clip, whether played directly from the media area using the preview window, in the media player, or from a timeline-drop, I get horrible corruption, painting and flashing. I'm using hardware acceleration on an ATi/AMD 6800 card, with up-to-date drivers and avivo package.
I notice there's been no reply to slickmetal25's post (in the old thread) about this issue for five days now... is this likely to be fixed? To be honest, it's stopping me buying this software. As it stands right now, it's no use to me with this problem.

I'm having a similar problem with PD10 trial version - I have to manually drag/drop my .MTS (H264 AVCHD) files into the media area. This is tolerable as I've read that this does not happen in the full version. However, if I try to playback an imported clip, whether played directly from the media area using the preview window, in the media player, or from a timeline-drop, I get horrible corruption, painting and flashing.
