OK, I gave up trying to get this software to play BDs...

...and reverted to playing the last series of Frasier DVDs I've been watching up until this latest upgrade of PowerDVD, and I'm now being rewarded with random but frequent dumps to desktop, for no apparent reason whatsoever. I can be watching for five minutes, or paused to go answer the door, whatever, and "...has stopped responding" or some such message appears, leaving me yet again staring at my desktop + icons.

I was considering a refund for this software a week or two ago, and I'm now a sliver away from demanding it. This is one ridiculously fickle, unstable piece of software, especially when you consider what it is doing - playing back bloody video!!! ...from standard, legitimate media no less, on a Core2Quad / Radeon HD6870 / 4GB system running Win7 Pro SP1 + updates, with all drivers up to date.

I'm watching Blu-Rays daily from a collection of 120 different movies, and PDVD is rock stable, same graphic card than you. Equipment is in my signature. And hundreds of people use it to watch movies daily too.

The only big problem I had recently is some artifacts on some discs like the Star Wars ones, and it came from the graphic driver, not PowerDVD.

If you posted the info asked in http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/21448.page , people may be able to help you better.

That's what's really bugging me to be honest - the previous version I'd been using, 10.x I think, served me very well indeed, with no problems whatsoever! It's only since I upgraded (as a result of being relentlessly hounded by the program) to upgrade, and the need to play BD disks, that I took the plunge. I doubt I've ever regretted a software purchase so much.

Are you running the most current version of the software? What about current video drivers and such? I have a large library and with the new updates I can run everything I throw at it.

I'm using the latest version and it's working fine, it's gotta be a problem in your other software, really, I wouldnt refund you anything. It's just bad luck for you to have beging to test what's causing the problem for you... Hope you get this solved because the latest build is almost perfect, well, perfect for me.

OK, gutted anything to do with PowerDVD & Cyberlink from my HD... ran Revo uninstaller, did manual reg scan & delete, etc... Then ran PowerDVD 10 installer, ran PowerDVD 12 upgrade installer, downloaded and installed latest patch, currently defragging, and will report back tonight as to the success (or otherwise ).

So disappointed by the software...I tried the trial for several ones but I purchased the pro version for this one based on the amazing reviews out there but so far I have only been able to play one bluray "Westworld" which most likely doesn't have any protection anyway but other store bough blurays like Life of Pi, Predators, Who Framed Roger Rabbit etc won't play. The drive is fine. Plays dvds and this one bluray Westworld nicely. Anything else and it will spin for a bit and nothing or tell me there is no disk in drive D. Right..

My computer is not too old. I installed PowerDVD12.0.2625.57 on a Sony VAIO EA Series- I also downloaded the latest patch from your website 2013-03-18 New PowerDVD 12 v2625 patch released- The Computer I have is a Sony VAIO VPC-EA36FX- Intel(R) Core (TM) i3 CPU M370@2.40 GHZ with 4 GB RAM running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit operating system. 500 GB HArd Drive, 14 inch screen at 1366x768 HD, Graphics processor is Intel HD Graphics dynamic video memory technology. Type: Integrated Intel GMA HD -128MB VRAM

what else can I do?
Thanks
Erick

Before I start, I have to ask "goldenm"; why is your opinion of whether I do or do not "deserve" a refund in any way helpful, never mind relevant?

Oh well, so much for all the uninstalling / reinstalling.

I just got through about 2 - 3 minutes of Frasier, only to yet again be dumped back to desktop.

Why is it that my system can play / run ANYTHING I throw at it, from ultra-demanding games, to CS6 edits on tens of 18mp images at a time, to edits of 30 minute videos @ 1920 x 1080 in Vegas, to thousands of 18mp images loaded into my Lightroom catalog, but I can't playback a friggin' DVD?!? The worst part? I've had no trouble playing DVDs since WinXP at the turn of the century, so why the hell is this version 12 suddenly acting like I'm expecting it to recreate the Universe?

/frustrated & bamboozled

LOL! It just happened AGAIN!

...only this time accompanied by this hilarious message :

"Cyberlink PowerDVD cannot play back the inserted disc. Make sure your system meets the minimum system requirements. You can find additional information on the Cyberlink FAQ web site - - (Code = 0102)"

Well, unless a C2Q 2.66GHz / 4GB / Radeon HD6870 system isn't up to "minimum system requirements", I'm at a loss.

...and again, having just updated Adobe Flash, just in case.

OK, my tether is well and truly at an end.

I didn't mean to point that "no refund" comment directly to you only. I just hate when people don't see that there is a million of different hardware/software combinations that can cause PowerDVD or any other software to not work on the first try... There's always that chance to get in trouble with software in Windows world so I woudn't ask a refund myself before trying to understand the reason why it doesn't work and testing different possibilities first.

Also, I wouldn't ask a refund because it IS working for pretty much everyone else, so why to blame Cyberlink for that when the actual problem may be caused by your own actions in using your PC (at least I doubt my own actions and try a non working software on another PC before blaming Cyberlink or any other software company), or because that there is an conflicting software?

Believe me, no offense! It's just that in my opinion, asking for refund for a product that works to almost everyone else sounds like a weak solution.

I see that on paper your PC should play blurays fine, but:
-Have you updated your graphics drivers?
-updated your dvd/bluyray drive's firmware?
-updated PowerDVD to it's latest patch?
-tried playing dvds/blurays without your antivirus/firewall software?
-installed any 3rd party codec packs from the internet? those may be conflicting with powerdvd. In that case you may have messed your PC so bad that it may be easier to install windows from scratch.
-contacted the official Cyberlink support team with a support ticket?
-tried to play those frasier discs on other PC with PowerDVD 12?

++is it true that you have to install PowerDVD 10, then upgrade it to PowerDVD 12?

Have you got a different key for 12? How about installing just 12 and not touching V10 anymore?

Before a new install, have you tried to remove all cyberlink software from Programs & Features, cleaned the registry from HKLM\Software\Cyberlink or on 64bit PC from HKLM\Software\wow6432node\Cyberlink and by deleting your personal settings for cyberlink in c:\users\yourusername\appdata\cyberlink and c:\programdata\ ? in xp those folders are in c:\documents and settings\user\application data c:\documents and settings\user\local settings\application data AND c:\documents and settings\all users\application data c:\documents and settings\all users\local settings\application data ? Those are hidden folders so you need to change your folder options if you don't see them.

It would also be a good try to make another user account (from control panel) to your PC, rebooting and trying to play dvds with that account, it's usually a way to try on a fresh windows user profile so that there's not the mess that comes with the profile that you've been using for years

Hi,
suggest to check this thread:
http://forum.cyberlink.com/forum/posts/list/21448.page

and post some more info - maybe some info "hidden" in the DXDIAG and BD Advisor logs that could help to identify your issue.
