Flickering and "painting" in preview & media player window

OK, I've been instructed to start a new topic about this... bizarrely, since the previous thread was about the same (apparently as-yet unresolved) issue was locked...

If I try to playback an imported clip, whether played directly from the media area using the preview window, in the media player, or from a timeline-drop, I get horrible corruption, painting and flashing. I'm using hardware acceleration on an ATi/AMD 6800 card, with up-to-date drivers and avivo package.

I notice there's been no reply to slickmetal25's post (in the old thread) about this issue for five days now... is this likely to be fixed? To be honest, it's stopping me buying this software. As it stands right now, it's no use to me with this problem.

Kurgen,

The problem you are experiencing can have many causes.

Without knowing more about the hardware and software environment that you are using we can only make guesses. We would also need to know more about the media files that are being used in the project. What type of files, the source of the files, and how you have your preview set up in PD.

I do not experience the problem you are having and am fairly confident that it is not a problem with Power Director.

If you could provide the relevant information requested in the sticky at the top part of the page, members might be able to beter help.

To add to Halcon's previous post, please follow that link and provide Part A info, and then as an attachment provide Part B. The dxdiag file will tell us what your machine's innards are, and the driver dates. You might just THINK your driver is up to date. I have an ATI 6310m and have no similar issues. Just for kicks, disable the acceleration, see what happens. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Hardware :

Core2quad @ stock speed (2.66GHz)
Radeon HD 6870 1GB PCIe
4GB DDR2
500GB Sata HD

Software :

Windows 7 Pro SP1 + subsequent updates.

Source files :

MPEG-TS Video File (.MTS) captured on Sony HDR CX730E.

BarryTheCrab, I don't think my drivers are up to date, I know they are; they were downloaded and installed today.

BabIndia, I tried both with and without hardware acceleration, same result.

Did you download the drivers from directly from AMD? The Windows driver search is pitiful.
THE COMPUTER FACTS ARE NOT A DXDIAG, the actual dxdiag has loads of other info.

The drivers are from AMD. Forgive me, but you seem to be going on the assumption that I don't know what I'm doing. I build and repair computers for a living.

Then you know how important the dxdiag is, at least a starting point. HP Envy Phoenix/4thGen i7-4770(4@3.4GHz~turbo>3.9)

Tell us a little more about the files you copied from the memory stick to your computer.

I see the camcorder does these formats: HD:MPEG4-AVC/H.264 AVCHD™ format ver.2.0 compatible. STD:MPEG2-PS

You originally said that files were mpg2-TS. Is that what you are outputting? Are you working with standard definition?

Try using a video converter to convert the files from the original to either the HD or the SD mpg2 files. Sony, Panasonic and JVC sometimes tweak the format to suit themselves (and to give other mfgrs ulcers). There are several free converters, I like Any Video Converter but there are others. Note that some of the conversion properties in AVConverter are hidden unless you click on the property and down arrow.

Once the video is converted, and if the result is still bad, we can look at PD issues. If the converted video play OK, then we look at the original files themselves.

Any Video Converter should take only a few minutes to do the conversion. Note that it will do a batch conversion also if needed. .

I could be trite and confrontational and say "So why are you asking for help?"

But let's be clear here - no-one here works for CL, no-one here owes anyone else anything, anyone trying to help does so in their own time, out of the goodness of their heart.

Folk try their best to help, sometimes those with a problem co-operate, sometimes they don't and life gets a bit of a pain.

There are stickies at the head of the forum, they are there for a purpose - not to make someone's life difficult, but to help everyone get to the right place quickly, effectively and successfully.

Putting it bluntly, you're the guy with the problem, whether you buy PD or not makes not one jot of difference to anyone here, but maybe, just maybe, someone has the answer to your problem.

Of course whether they want to bother themselves to "pull teeth" in getting to the root of your problem is up to them. Personally, I've always found it more productive, if I have a problem, to ask nicely and then give any information properly requested. Maybe you operate differently?

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. (see below)
