Hi Nina, I do have all my videos and photos in a properly organized folder and sub-folder. Because there are two different videos with the same file name, i cannot put them in one folder. Not say cannot, i should say i choose not to. So I separated those videos into different folders to avoid the question "Would you like to replace." But this is not my problem. My problem is this. The software asked me to relink too many files.
Some files which does not have same file name, that's ok because there is only one unique file. Having to relink those files are not difficult. But those files which have got 2 same file name will be a big problem. Because when it asked to relink for example 0001, I have two 0001, one in folder A and one in folder B. I'm not sure which 0001 it is referring to. If I relink, and then found out that the 0001 is not the correct 0001, then the position on the timeline will be different. The biggest problem is this, the software not only ask me to relink 0001, it also ask to relink 0002, 0003, 0004, 0005 and many more. If I simply anyhow pick, I can be very sure the entire project timeline will be in a mess.
The funniest part is, how come I did not touch my computer for two weeks and I did not touch the project for two weeks, how come it will ask to relink? Everything was in position in my computer. As I mentioned, if I move some media files, it is not unusual that it will ask me to relink. The point is, I didn't touch anything and why does it asked me to relink?
James, for your info, I'm using a Panasonic Lumix LX5 to shoot my video, you have any idea how do I # consecutively?

Dear friends, i have not been working on the project for the last two weeks. Today when i opened my project, it asked me to link back some of the files. I can choose to "browse," "ignore," or "ignore all." Normally this will only happen if i move that particular file to somewhere else.
For example, if i have a picture file call DSC0001 and it is stored at A folder. When i move DSC0001 to B folder, then the software will ask to re-link this file call DSC0001. I did not move or change anything, how come it will ask me to re-link? This makes me feel very strange.
The problem now is, i have some video files which has got the same file name. For example, i have 2 different videos with the same file name call 0001. As for why do i have 2 different videos with the same file name call 0001, emm, this one i think it must have something to do with the memory card. For example, when i use card A to shoot and then when the memory is full, i use card B to shoot. The file name rightfully should be different between card A & B. I'm not sure why the file name is the same. And because of this, each file name i will have 2 different videos. I suppose it is due to the different memory card brand. Anyway, thats beside the point.
The point here is, If i choose to "browse," i'm not sure which 0001 it is referring to. And if i based on "guess-work", after i re-link, the whole project is going to be in a big mess. Because the 0001 i re-link may not be in the correct position or location.

Michael, this is exactly what happened to me and exactly what i mean by i cannot "remove empty track." When i did my production, i am using exactly the same way like your test. And when i need to remove track 2, i can't. Anyway Michael, thanks for all your testing. I have another way to work around it. And the another way is to move track 2 to the last timeline and then remove from there. It is possible.
Take a project with an empty track 2 (i.e.all clips are positioned in track 1, no other video tracks exist).
Add a clip to track 2 - a track 3 is generated.
Add a clip tp track 3 - a track 4 is generated.
Drag the clip from track 2 to track 4 - nothing happens (i.e.: there is no track 5 generated!), but track 2 is left empty.
Now choose "remove empty tracks" on track 2- nothing happens.

Tidus, i don't quite understand your question?
Quote:
Is it possible for you to use the empty track so it can be removed on your track list?

Babindia, thanks for your screen shot. I don't quite agree to myself too. I seriously have no idea too.
Michael, thanks for your advise too. I managed to get around it. As to what is the logic behind I will just leave it as it is.

Hi Cranston, I'm aware that any extra track that has been added, can be removed. And it can be removed by simply just right click and select "remove empty track." I done that and it can be removed. Not sure what happen, this time i can't. I have a total of track #1,#2,#3 and #4. During the production, i wanted to add one more track in between #1 and #2. And as you said, now #2 has become #3. And i have a new #2 track. So now #2 track i don't need anymore and there are nothing on #2 track. And i can't remove it by using right click and select "remove empty track."
I found a solution. The solution is this. When you add a new track in between #1 and #2, that means you select add tracks and under the position you select "above track 2." A new track 2 will be added and the original #2 will shift down to #3. We all know this. When you need to remove this new #2 track, you cannot do it by simply right click and select "remove empty track." What i did was, i right click and select "move to" and then moved it to the most bottom track. From there, i'm able to "remove empty track."

Yes, i am very sure the track is empty. You mean if there is something on this particular track, it can never be removed?

When I right click and select "remove empty track" this track is still there and cannot be remove.
EXR,
Are you sure the track is indeed empty?
Using the little button/sider tool (at the very bottom left of your PD main screen), slide the button all the way to the right, thus fully expanding your timelines
Now check this track you want to remove, to see if there is maybe a little sliver of media left behind after an edit (that you can’t see when your timelines are compressed).

Oh, I'm very sorry. I think it was my mistake for not making myself clear enough. Perhaps let me illustrate again.
In my timeline, I have a total of 4 tracks. I learned that shortening a text duration on a particular track will shift everything on the right hand side towards the left. I want to avoid this. So I created a new track, bring down the text, shorten it and drag it back to its original position. This new track I created is only meant for this purpose. And when I'm done, I wanted to remove this new track. When I right click and select "remove empty track" this track is still there and cannot be remove.

Hi there, i added new track to my timeline to do some work. Let's call this track 2. After the job is done, now track 2 is empty. When i right click on track 2 and select "remove empty track," i cannot delete it. It is still there. I didn't lock the track.

Hello everyone. Thank you so much for your wonderful guidance. I have one more question.
Does this method also apply for video and music track? I assume it does right? Because there are time when i make some adjustment on say, one song, the rest of the songs on the right hand side are all effected.
So whenever i need to lets say shorten a music track, i will have to drag the music to another track and edit it, and then drag it back again.

Dear Sir, when i insert a text on the timeline, by default the duration is 10sec. I need to shorten to lets say 4 sec. The moment i did this, all the following texts on the timeline will shift to the left. How do i shorten the duration of this particular text, and at the same time, keep all the right hand side of the neighbouring text in place.
For example, i have 3 texts on the timeline. Now i need to add in one text in between text 1 and text 2. After adding in, i now have a total of 4 texts on the timeline. When i shorten the duration of text 2 to maybe 4 sec, then text 3 and text 4 will all be shifting towards the left. How do i shorten text 2 duration, and at the same time, keep text 3 and text 4 on its original position.

Hi Tony, got it. Understand now. You are great Tony.

Hi EXR -
Your appreciation is appreciated.
If you've only used default stuff from PD - i.e. stock standard supplied effects with no customisations - your project will be perfectly replicated.
With fonts, if you have only used standard system fonts all wil be well. If, in your project, you've used a "custom" font you've installed on your old PC, all you need to do is copy that font to your new PC. Your new PC will not necessarily have the same basic system fonts installed.
Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Fonts (on your old PC) - copy the fonts you've used into a folder - then transfer them to your new PC. Double click to install.
Have no fear, if anything goes wrong you've always got forum members to call upon.
Cheers - Tony

Hi Neil and Cranston, thank you very much for your wonderful enlightenment. You all are great people.
Tony - Thank you very much for your guidance too. I have some more questions. Along the way during the production, I used some default stuffs inside the effect room, PiP object room, transition room to create the video. When i pack the Project Materials and open from the new PC, will the project be perfectly replicated on the new PC? Or it will be displayed at a different position?
Also, i'm not using any "custom" font during the production. All the fonts i used are from my old PC. My fear is that it will be what Cranston had described, "Then when the friend opens it in his system (which may not have all the same custom fonts installed that you’ve used), then text on your friends end, will probably display as the standard Arial font on his timelines."
Finally, when i go to File > Export > Pack Project Materials, a "browse for folder" pop up where the default folder is "10.0." This mean that this "10.0" folder will contain (a) my project file (.pds) & (b) a copy of all the media in my timeline. And i will have to transfer this "10.0" folder to my new PC. Am i correct Tony?
Quote:
Hi EXR -
There won't be any issues.
Just go to File > Export > Pack Project Materials
That creates a folder containing (a) your project file (.pds) & (b) a copy of all the media in your timeline. That folder can be transferred to your new PC & your project will open just as it does now.
Cheers - Tony

Dear support, I have a project template created by a slow computer system. I can’t render my video using this old PC because the rendering speed is too slow. I tested a 30mins video production and after rendering for 8 hours, it is only 12%.
I plan to purchase a new and faster computer system. I plan to output the video when my new computer system is ready. I like to find out if I’m able to use the project template on my new computer system? As the project template is not created on the new PC, it is created on the old PC. I’m not sure will there be any issues? Or I can simply open the template on the new PC and render the video? Is there anything I need to take note of before I move my project template to the new PC?
Currently, all my videos, music and project template are all at my external drive.

Hi Tony, your respond is fast. Thank you so much, yes i got it back. Its very strange that this will happen. Lucky that i have auto save turned on in Preferences. Thanks Tony

Hi everyone, please help me locate my project template. I've never met with such sudden news that my project template is gone. I've been working on the production for months. Yesterday i was still doing it. Today when i go to my folder and trying to open my project, the whole .pds file is gone. Oh my god.
I tried to search by typing in my project template name but just cannot find. I'm very sure that i did not delete it away because i've been working on it for months. I thought i may have accidentally move the project to somewhere, so i tried to seach my whole computer and still cannot find. I even went to the rubbish bin and look for it but also cannot find.

HiTony, thank you very much. You are a kind person.
Honestly, i am not sure about the total video size because i have not finish the production yet. Let us assume. Assuming my total video size is 20GB, and the free space is left with 30GB, am i still able to produce it?
Tony, can we side-track alittle bit. Under our "EDIT" tab, we will have our Library Window where we can see all our videos and music inside it with a green tick mark on the top right. I'm trying to remove it. I tried hitting the delete buttom on our keyboard, the thing is gone. But when i open the project, it appear there again. Then i tried another method. I right click on the media and select "remove from library." But when i open the project, it appear there again. I know that these videos and music inside the library window, if deleted, will not affect the production. But how do i remove it so that it will not appear there anymore?

|
Michael, i wonder if i turn off the preview window when i'm producing the video, does it helps to render the video faster? Where can i find the command to turn on/off the preview window?

Hi Tony, looks like the chroma key is something that is not easy to do. Alright, thank you very much for your reply. Lets come back to the Production file size, Time & Remaining. Assuming the "remaining" shows that it is 3.3GB, this number 3.3GB will be the total output video size am i correct Tony? In another words, my production total video size is actually 3.3GB. Or we can say, we left with 3.3GB to produce. Because when the start to produce the production, the number under "produced" increases and the number under "remaining" decreases. Am i correct to say that Tony?
Finally, assuming the video size is 10GB, how much free space should we at least have? I remembered someone told me is 70GB. This mean that if my video is 10GB, my hardisk free space should have at least 80GB (70 + 10). Am i correct?

Good day everyone, instead of creating 3 new topic for 3 questions, i decided to put all my 3 question in one topic.
1) PRODUCTION FILE SIZE: How do i, or where can i find out the final production video size? For example, let's say my production is 1 hour, i would like to know what is my video size after i output?
2) TIME & REMAINING: Under the "produce" tab, below the output folder, we will see the word "remaining," What does this remaining means? If i see 255.2MB, what does that mean under "remaining?" We also can see "time available," lets say i see 05:08:44, what does it mean? Does it mean i will need 5 hours and 8mins to render this production?
3) Enhanced Chroma Key: From the product website, i saw it stated "Smart background color removal tool, lets you change the background video just like the TV weather broadcast." A lady is holding a headphone and then it uses the Chroma Key to change the background video. Assuming i have a video of a baby, i would like to change the background leaving the baby there just like the girl holding the headphone from Cyberlink product website, how do i do that? I tried but it doesn't work. I may have done some steps wrongly. This is what i did.
- I Click on the video on the timeline and select "modify."
- I tick on "apply chroma key" and then click on "save."
