How to keep the neighbouring text in place

Dear Sir, when i insert a text on the timeline, by default the duration is 10sec. I need to shorten to lets say 4 sec. The moment i did this, all the following texts on the timeline will shift to the left. How do i shorten the duration of this particular text, and at the same time, keep all the right hand side of the neighbouring text in place.

For example, i have 3 texts on the timeline. Now i need to add in one text in between text 1 and text 2. After adding in, i now have a total of 4 texts on the timeline. When i shorten the duration of text 2 to maybe 4 sec, then text 3 and text 4 will all be shifting towards the left. How do i shorten text 2 duration, and at the same time, keep text 3 and text 4 on its original position.

The simplest way is to shorten but directly in the text block by clicking on the left edge (start) make reducing the block.
Another option to create the text block out of the editing area and then drag to the position.

OK.....

I have to change the timing of titles all the time after I have set them. The simplest way to do it is to drag the title in question down to a lower track, change the length and then drag it back where it came from.

The sample I made, the first time I did similar to they way you and most people try to do it. I grabbed the right edge of the title and shortened it by dragging it to the left. Which of course makes everything to the right jump to the left.

The second time I dragged the title to a lower track, changed the length (this works for making it shorter only) then dragged it back where it was was... you will see all the other stuff stays in place... simple....

Hello everyone. Thank you so much for your wonderful guidance. I have one more question.

Does this method also apply for video and music track? I assume it does right? Because there are time when i make some adjustment on say, one song, the rest of the songs on the right hand side are all effected.

So whenever i need to lets say shorten a music track, i will have to drag the music to another track and edit it, and then drag it back again.

Yes.... the way I showed you works the same way wit video or audio.

Never hurts to play around with it when you think you are on the right track..... or even if you wrong... as long as you do something and not give up.... __________________________________________

Real useful info ... thanks. I've also been getting into a mess with this

Interestingly shortening eg a Title from the right moves everything on that track to the left but making it longer does not alter other positions to the right unless they in direct contact. CYa Ron (W10/i5gen8/Nvidia)
